  • Great jazzy and heartbreaking version! I adore!

  • superbe interprétation ! avec un excellent choix des photos !

  • anyone who says Ms. Boyle ain't transmitting any emotions, or is bland is not really listening. This voice is....OMG amazing, and her cover of this song....sends goosebumps up my spine. surely no one was expecting this voice from a simple, middle-aged woman as she is.

  • I feel like sitting in a rode side diner at night, well it's raining and drinking black coffee and smoking a cigarette because I'm a detective and I haven't found the killer of my partner.

  • this gave me a shiver

  • this made me cry

  • I find it interesting that people compare Susan who was a young amateur when this was recorded to singers who were trained professionals with years of experience. Personally, I think she is every bit as good as they are. She sings with a pure honest depth of feeling that is rare.

  • This should totally be the intro to a James Bond film.

  • @Hedgepook I thought that same thing the first time I heard this version...Julie London's is still my favorite, though!

  • Fuckin shit.. crazy good voice. I still love the Julie London version.

  • Voila! Great interpretation! Great Voice!

  • This version by Miss Boyle hits the mark.

  • lol the picture

  • A good version but its Miss London who has this song for me. A deeper voice is whats needed I think.

  • doesn't she look like Frodo in this picture?

    BEAUTIFUL cover btw

  • Anyone else expect to hear a timberlake cover?...

  • @susamboylefan91 your right it is better when she sings it ma. She is great n has a beautiful voice. Its amazing!!!!!! Love her voice. I bought her CDs. A must have ya. So go out there n buy here CDs ya

  • I just read the comments - Babs vs Susan is it? Babs has a gorgeous voice / Susan has a gorgeous voice but they are different versions. The Babs snobs do themselves no favours by pointing out Susans vocal "deficiencies" which I guess we are "too plebian" to hear!

  • A pity she wasn't discovered back then but I'm so glad she was eventually anyway. Beautiful voice.

  • WHO ARE THE 31 PEOPLE THAT DISLIKED THIS?, they must have thought it would be funny -_-

  • Susan has done great justice to a great song! She sure can be proud of herself.

  • Just fantastic susan is the best example to us all she shows us so beautifully that it does not matter who you are or where you come from we can all achieve our dreams

god bless susan boyle give her a dame hood

  • Lovely lovely voice God Bless Her, if anyone wants to hear a new talent search Dave Lennard

  • The incredible thing about Susan Boyle's voice is that she adapts it to the song she is singing and becomes the best blues, rock, folk, whatever, singer anyone has ever heard. Most great singers like Sinatra and Streisand are actually song stylists, they adapt songs to their incredible voices, make songs "theirs". Susan Boyle adapts her voice to the essence and meaning of the song. A singer with a beautiful pure voice who can achieve the authenticity of the music is the rarest of treasures.

  • You can keep comparing Susan Boyle with Barbra Streisand, Julie London or with whom ever you want. This version is absolutely and breathtakingly beautiful.

  • What a lovely clear voice, she can sing any song for me.Just shows you don't have to be a stripper or poledancer to shift records!!

  • This is still some of the best singing I've ever heard in my life.

  • As a precursor to my comment, I don't mean to offend anyone in my opinion below.

  • Barbra allows herself to be "ugly" (if that's even possible for barbra's voice, let's face it, it's not) by cutting notes short and musically interpreting the song to follow the lyrics. When you listen to Barbra sing, she grows with the song, reaches a high point (I don't mean high note, even though those are phenomenal and well supported on her, I mean emotional and musical height of the song) and then ends it beautifully

  • @indigowindd Your comment is really apprecitated by me , thanks a lot. I do not understand people who say Barbra is too perfectionist, if you listen to her early recording of Happy days.... from the second album, the final note is far from being perfect but is definitely emotional and unique, and if you close your eyes and listen to Streisand you cannot mistake her for someone else, unlike Boyle whose voice is common ... as far as looks are concerned, Edith Piaf was not beautiful but when....

  • Rispondi a questo video... onstage...she could trasmit a magical and unique energy... I do not think that Boyle has the same inner gift.

  • @indigowindd Susan's version has more emotion and definately more pleasant on the ear. I'd rather listen to Susan's version of this song any day. As much as I love some of Bab's music, Susan's version of the song gets my vote. What's wrong with Susan's version? it's breathtaking. You're just being a stick in the mud who hates it if someone comes along with a better rendition than Babs.

  • She's not trying to impress the audience or show-off, she's trying to convey the emotion, fully immerse herself in the song, and show respect to Arthur Hamilton's gorgeous chart. Boyle's version sounds like she's singing in a foreign language as the phrasing of her breath and melodic choices don't match how you would naturally say the lyrics at all. I don't care if you're a professional singer or not -- if you go on some "talent" show

  • and want to make a career of singing, you should invest in learning about the craft and if she knew anything about musical theatre singing (which I believe is what she auditioned with, yes?) then she would know you should study the libretto first, and interpret the lyrics before making musical choices. I clicked on this video out of curiosity.

Again, my apologies, just wanted to add my two cent about Barbra.

  • Oh, my, gosh. I had NO IDEA SHE WAS THIS AMAZING! <3

  • To me Boyle is a great voice with no emotions to transmit, I am sorry, at least in this song ... But if you like her , it is up to you,....

  • Have to agree there geowillis, the Barbra Striesand version is faultless I have just watched it again for the millionth time lol.

  • @giowillis Doesn't transmit any feelings to the listener? You've got to be joking and when I listen to the Streisand version, the only feeling i get is that she's trying to overly impress the audience with her prodigious vocal talent.

  • @markbyrn I am not joking, the difference is really that Barbra impresses her audience whereas Susan Boyle's interpretation is so mild..... so insignificant to me. I wish her all the luck anyway...it would take 1/100th of Streissand fortune to turn her into a star

  • @giowillis Biased is written all over your face. What do you mean Barbra impresses her audience? Boyle impresses her audience seeing how the millions of viewers/listerners of her voice clearly acknowledge. Boyle's interpretation is mild?! Just where do you think you're getting at with all of these vague/general descriptions of Boyle's singing? You don't even elaborate nor bother to say anything constructive about why Boyle's isn't great. Opinions are respected, but yours is unjustified.

  • @Nondo So I respect your opinion, please respect mine

  • @markbyrn So true!

  • @markbyrn This is the most beautiful version of this song that I have ever heard!

  • @giowillis are you Kidding me??? I think you are a little biased. besides which, Streisand had been singing professionally for a while already in '64 when she sang this(so you'd expect her to be putting emotion into this song)and this lady had no such background. And, further, I think Boyle puts Streisand to shame.

  • @giowillis : I think both versions are equally nice it's just a question of one's preference. I love Barbra, but I will have to agree with 'Markbryn", Barbra does sing it beautifully but it's obvious she's hamming it up ...sort of like "Look at me I'm singing" Susan's performance is far more sincere and vulnerable imho.

  • @giowillis I completely agree with you and even think you're being a bit generous in complimenting her voice. The vibrato is very uneven and pitchy in areas (very sharp on the last note).

Also, if you are not a blues/jazz singer, please don't scat. It's just bad.

(And if people come back with "Oh, it's because Barbra's a professional singer" then that is correct. Leave it to the professionals who put in long hours training their voices.)

  • @giowillis At least she doesn't talk it or even yell it like Streisand, This is good enough for a Bond movie

  • @giowillis You don't even know what you're talking about. This is excellent.

  • @giowillis you're completely right! that's what i have thought too, when I listened to it the first time.

  • @giowillis Julie London you mean.

  • very good

  • goosebumps over her gorgeous voice. a voice that is unable to be interpret by a simple word.

    <3<3

  • Susan, you make me cry a river!!! Your such an amazing voice takes me to the TRUE ART OF MUSIC!!! YOU ARE SOOOO GREAT!!!

  • I hope Susan Boyle goes far. She has such a beautiful voice.

  • If you would like to hear susan boyle sing THE JOURNEY please visit meryl heasman you tube.

I have written this song and would love Susan to record it for me....obviously not with my keyboard but with a full orchestra etc....please leave a message there. thanks.

  • simply one of the best version....

  • My God, she's good. Hope they release this, so she can make some money from it.

  • Im 12 years old

Wacht me singen Catch Me by Demi Lovato

or Ave Maria by Beyonce or more wacht my channel!

    Iman

  • I love Barbara, but Susan your voice sounds better on this one. Just goes to show, certain songs fit with different voices. Your voice so sweet, sexy and feminine.

  • pretty bad version

  • wow!!!!! love it!! best version ever !!!

  • Susan ,

    you are...

Please, Do you accept to sing for France on Eurovision Song Contest 2011 ?

  • WOW !

  • That was smooth.Barbara have a lot of pitchy parts.I can't hear susans.sounds like it's out of the 1950's.just made in the 1999.she sings like it's to easy for her to sing. That's what makes it so super to smooth. This can be a big hit song .

  • OMG

  • pure, and beautiful

  • Beautiful....

Fantastic! Sehens- und hörenswert! Best regards from Germany

  • Made me cry... but rememeber Sarah Brightman is good too - not sure if i spelt the surname right? :

  • Sarah Brightman is so overrated, her voice is the most average soprano voice I've ever heard in my entire life.

  • she had a younger voice... gorgeous!

  • Unbelievable! And I've heard Ella, Julie London, Barbra et al. a million times

  • @Katfishh in her new album, she covers this tune with a more appropriate verve but if you discount the lyrics, the smooth & alluring vocals in this 1999 recording are better than the album, at least IMHO.

  • @Katfishh Those were Streisand's feelings. Susan was singing about a real life romance, gone wrong, shortly before she recorded the song. If you can't hear the raw emotion in her voice, I don't know what you think it sounds like.

  • .....blessed voice...a heart singing

  • great! Susan go on and on and on ...

  • I like her voice it feels like a true expression of her heart. Her interpretation is not seductive like London's nor bitter angst driven like Barbara's. No one's voice is as spectacular as Barbara's or Whitney's (before Bobby).

  • Fantastic voice

  • julie's london version is the best. this one is good though.

  • I love the way this lovely woman sings...absolutly art. Simply authentic interpretation....!!!!!!!!!

  • Clear and warm voice ! I would like to buy she cd or dvd !

  • absolutely beautiful, stunning vocals from

    this carismatic woman..:)

  • この人は!!!本当に歌が上手い!!すばらしい!!

  • you are amazing, check MENURA she is the same age and also good like you.

  • TALENT

  • she sings with soul, this is just her interpetation...its diiferent than streisand's version, ok so what?

  • It's not about expressing rage; it's about being sad and mournful over a betrayed relationship in which the betrayer is not sincere in his apology. It's blues ballad.

  • This is damn good! She's such a great singer. I really wish people wouldn't have treated her that way. -_-"

    And, though it doesn't outshine Barbra's, it's still such a gem. ^_^"

Thanks so much for uploading/sharing! :)

  • wow goosebumps for sure!!

  • Her voice literally gave me goosebumps. I'm so glad she was courageous enough to trust her talent and take a leap of faith. Absolutely gorgeous.

  • A big surprise about her performance of Cry me a river...simply fantastic.

  • Born to sing ...

  • wow susan, still a star no matter what...go ahead and keep singing...you are a star!

  • TornTen said the younger singers today aren't usually trained to handle notes like these and often can't sing them anyway because of lack of talent and/or experience. I agree and with the right software, even the most out of tune singers suddenly sound good.

  • Wow!

  • Susan, it makes me wonder how many people out there have the enormous talent you do and never take the chance you did.You are one gutsy broad.

  • it was really sad when she was on the show..ppl assumed she wouldnt be able to sing because she didnt hv the stereotypical model figure n face..but shes really talented :)

  • her vuice sounds so young!

  • The world LOVES you Susan. I will buy your CD!!

  • me tooooo

  • :O holy!

  • I can't wait for Susan's CD. I'll have to buy several copies because I'm going to wear it out playing it so much!

  • I really reallyreally reallyreally reallyreally reallyreally reallyreally reallyreally reallyreally reallyreally reallyreally really

hope SONY includes some torch songs on her CD!!!!

  • Gotta say, this is fuckin good !

For my money shes better than streisand singing this.

  • LOL

  • They're both equally talented to me. Streisand sings this song with a sort of tugging hatred. Boyle sings this with innocence and heartache.

  • Susan sings this song warmer and more emotional than all the singers I have heard. Susan's voice makes herself as beautiful as an angel for us to listen to.

  • she's just great.

  • Ha... I thought this was a parody or something from the title! Do you get why? LOL

  • Voice of an angel . . .

  • I love her singing,

she is the only person who I admire her singing talent when I first heard of her on youtube!

She is the first who makes me feel this,

    not the other stars!

    She is the best,

I will buy her CDs later for sure,

    she is really really good,

    FANTASTIC!!!!!

  • Remarkable, absolutely remarkable! I listen to this every time I turn on my computer. Even my husband dabbed a tear. All song suggestions good, but, Susan, please, please, as a tribute and honor to Lena Horn, record Stormy Weather! Dont let anyone change you any more. Youre perfect with just a touch of makeup, dab of hair color, and a beautiful gown! Keep your Scottish warm smile, temperament, humor, instinctive musical style, and heaven-sent talent. You are the best!

  • Her crystal-clear voice is amazing .... I've got a lump in my throat as I'm listening to this song. A little more polish and she would without a doubt rank among the world's top singing sensations!

  • Wow, Susan. I just compared your version with Stars that have sung the same song and you rank right up there with the best... (I like this version better).

  • Me to...

  • mwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • fantastic

  • The BEST voice I've heard other than Barbra Streisand.

  • Simply Stunnin'~~~

  • What a voice. Wow.

  • Hi Susan Boyle.. Hi there miss Pebbles.. Do people think she sounded better with a Microphone?? A few people think so.. I kinda agree I ADORE HER!

    Kelly from Canada

  • What are you babbling about? She is singing with na microphone here AND on Britain's Got Talent.

  • Don´t worry magobarato - I´ll be glad to get me

a copy of Susans CD as soon it is available !!!

  • more than 160,000,000 views on ytube. If only 1% of these people buys her CD means 1,600,000 copies sold.Put $4 for her for each CD sold = $6,400,000.

She´s already a millonaire. Her voice transports me. Yes, I´d buy her CD too.

  • Her voice is so natural and pure.

  • SMOKIN' HOT!!! WOW!!!!!

  • I grew up with this kind of music...gotta tell ya: this is among the very best versions ever and that includes Streisand and Julie London. Susan has a throaty edge that a classic torch song like this demands.

  • Susan's version of this song is the best I have ever heard. Susan 'owns' this song in my opinion. Susan conveys the true emotion and meaning of the song and with clear and strong singing. I hope this song is included in her CD.

  • You the writer of this song then?

  • Miss Boyle is right up there with Fitzgerald and Holliday! It's so good to know that she has recovered and is back on the scene - we need her!!

  • Such a beautiful rendition! Her voice and the feeling she expresses are unsurpassed. Wish there were a video of this one so we could view Susan singing.

  • She sings this song with so much passion, it is as if she was in love with someone.

  • beauty is inside and she radiates beauty with her voice! lets hear more of you Susan ..i love the bluesy tunes.....-Linda

  • SHE'S AWESOME!!!!

  • marvellous fabulous awesone and inspiring!

  • lol all i know is if u have a voice like and ur not happy with how u look u definately could change ur appearance lol cough jackson

  • why no one discovered her many many years ago!!! of course they do pay more attention to the appearance of the singer more than how talented he/she is. Quite sure 99% of those who drive the music branch r copies of S.Cowell

  • I was involved in the nashville music scene. Young people are the biggest buyers of music. (or their parents buy CDs for them)

As a result the producers are looking for young goodlooking people.

I know many people with far greated talent than miss boyle.

life is not fair...get used to it!

  • to gymhourfee

I hear a lot of singers; and I know of no undiscovered talent that is more talented than Miss Boyle. This rendition of "Cry Me a River" is the best I have ever heard.

  • susan boyle.. check her out here....

    /watch?v=Mbtgc28GUrU

  • This is so beautiful, Susan you are so prescious.

  • I think Susan Boyle is great. If she makes a CD, I will be sure to buy it!!

  • greatest ahronsidi you tube

  • OMG she is amazingly talented. Love her redition of Cry me a River.

  • How on earth was she missed 10 years ago? I keep playing this so over and over! It is such a shame that BGT didn't look after her properly. She should have had a chaperone at all times to protect her.

  • how can you say it's not her singing? :D

love her voice so much.. hope her first album would be released soon. she deserves all this success. good luck Susan :)

  • i wil buy her CD as soon it´s released

  • I can't stop listening to this song,,,I just want more. I only buy CDs occasionally but I 'll buy anything she sings. I would love to see her in concert. I'm usually somewhat embarassed to be so enthusiastic about another persons' talents, but in this case I'm shamelessly smitten.

  • Great Song, Susan. BTW, Princessemi96 learn how to spell. "A lot" is two words not one.

  • GO SUSAN GO!!

  • Princessemi96@ you are totally drinking your own bathwater and need your head examined!!!!! ....a beautiful voice is always welcome ! such a wonderful talent Susan.....I want as many CD with blusey tunes as can be produced..Susan i want to hear you sing COUNT EVERY STAR....omg that would be as good as Cry ME A RIVER ! Best of everything..you have more than earned your way to the top.-Linda
