  • i said i never let nobody near my heart again....Darling i said i've never let nobody in,but if you asked me to i just might change my mind and let you in my heart forever ♥ my baby aboood

  • celine is so not beautiful like patti, sacres me how ugly pasty people are who marry their grandpas but i guess that is what canadians do from deliverence country do, glad to be an american!

  • ooh my god, omg, celine is on GLEE how cute, she is so fun, for doing this even though she has sort a career for the semi deflllllllllllllllllllol

  • Patti just performed this on the Rosie Show and held that hook note for 20 seconds at age 67!!! She was amazing!!!!!

  • celine dion lip synchs a lot.. but this is LIVE

  • @tiengallavant Yea I know. Which shes uses all the time.

  • Celine Dion is a living legend. A huge artist and a great person. Her voice is beyond earth and let me tell you, she can sing. When she lipsyncs is because she has some reasons as to preserve her voice for a following tour. When she cannot sing though, she just cancels her concerts. So, please don't tell me that she can't sing live!

  • @tiengallavant and the two you named are probably the only two you could find hahahaha

  • @tiengallavant Yea about 1 of 10. No need to check facts that aren't real

  • It's seems simple. Who sold the most copies of their rendition of the song?

  • All you fools who think this is lipped must be fucking crazy. It's different from the studio album in intonation and enunciation, and this was Celine in her prime, if she couldn't kill here, she could never. PAtti's good, but this was the version that took off - and for good reason, her version is simply better.

  • @janmascarina Her version is pritty much the same, if you are going to cover a song atleast make it your own, this is karoke at best, atleast if Patti covers a song she doesnt lazily keep the same arrangement and emotion

  • Celine Dion should be charged with illegal remaking of a song & then lip syncing it!

  • Amen! Just enjoy them....both a gift from God.

(I've been listening to old opera singers from so far back in time it's like a little baby perodactyl on an old vinyl record or an Edison "platter" a million years old.... but their crystal clarity and purity of voice comes through! IT's ALL GOOD.)

  • Celine's studio version is just as good as Patti's. But Celine's LIVE versions surpass both Patti's studio and LIVE versions. And the only time that the studio version of one of Celine's own songs is topped is when she does a LIVE performance of one herself, which happens consistently.

  • @tvbabay That's impossible, because all Celine' Live versions are pre-recorded & lip synced & even if they weren't they still aren't as good as Patti's. Celine is so predictable when she sings( well when she is actually singing & not lip syncing). She is a good singer, but not a good artist. Bottom line Patti is the original singer of this song & will always be better. "Just ask" Celine, I'm sure she'd tell you herself.

  • @tvbabay I'm sorry but you are incorrect. Celine sings with a poor technique where she sings through her nasal cavity and mixes with about 80% headvoice giving a very shrill belt, her technique lets her down

  • @moroney1 Oh, I see. But why does Celine sound better?

  • @tvbabay No point talking if you are going to be juvenile

  • This heffa is lip singing. I am very disappointed. Patti would never do this. I love you Celine, but you lip sing too much.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, what a performance!

  • I do prefer Celine Dion live, but Patti is what I grew up with. Her video is less "produced" and more heart. I prefer her studio version every time. I just wish she'd sing it live a little more straight forward like Celine.

  • PATTIE AND CELINE ARE THE ONLY FEW SINGERS AND VOCALIST WHO CAN ACTUALLY SANGGGGG!!!

  • i prefer this version than the original..

  • damn i love this song and love has finally came my way and yep he asked me to!!!!!!!!

  • @antibelle2000 celine has 5 octaves. gurl byeeee

  • @griik123 yea well Patti has at least that so......

  • @antibelle2000 Omg are you really going to sit here and tell how many octaves she has like you actually listen to here music. Patti LaBelle has more at least five octaves, she has said so herself you idiot. You must be talking about Celine, because there is no way you are talking about Patti.

  • @antibelle2000 OK once again you uncomprehending idiot, I said those were two of her best ranges. And soprano is her best range in you opinion. And don't try and tell me her best range like you are actually a fan or some shit.

  • @antibelle2000 UHH your point. And did you have to look that info up?...LOL. Anyway it doesn't matter who the ranges belong to any gender can hit them if they have the ability to. And dummy who obviously can't read that well, I said those were two of her best ranges, meaning she can hit them very well. Get it now?

  • @antibelle2000 You asshole baritone and tenor are usually sung by men, but I have heard plenty of women sing in those ranges, of course they don't sing those ranges naturally, but they can go there. Now who's the idiot commenting on situations he has no knowledge about. Music and especially vocal ranges is something that I have studied so don't go there with me. And by the way you did nothing but trick yourself.

  • @antibelle2000 OK, well now I know you don't know what the hell you're talking about baritone and tenor are two of Patti's best ranges. You don't even know anything about either singer. Celine's voice is much softer and cannot go to a baritone range, and if she does she has to try a little to do it dummy.

  • @antibelle2000 Oh shut up. You probably don't even like Celine you just want something negative to say against Patti LaBelle. And more range seriously, ha you are such a joke.

  • @antibelle2000 Is this a hobby for you? Gosh your pathetic!

  • I like that Celine's live verion is closer to the studio version. I don't like the dramatic changes to Patti LaBelle's live verion of this song.

  • Celine Dion is so amazing:)

  • I 1st heard this song in Dion's version and loved it but, then i stopped listening to her and became a Patti Labelle fan and learned that she is the one who actually made the song and let em tell you Celine ain't got nothing on Patti LaBelle........Patti gave me chills with this song and any other song she has sung and sings....Patti's version is 1,000,000 times better and more

  • @JacksonObamafan4life I am sorry to hear that you have become mentaly ill. I hope you are able to get the help you need.

  • @kraigthorne How in the hell I get mentally ill ya damn fool!! I can't help Celine Dion can't sing better than Patti LaBelle. That's her damn fault! It is what it is. She ain't got nothing on Patti!!!

  • @JacksonObamafan4life noo, celine have great voice,of course ,she sung this way better. deal with it.

  • @griik123 I know she has a great voice and I am a big fan of her music, and yes she sung this song very well, but not better than Patti LaBelle. Usually when someone remakes a song, it is not better than the original version, and that's the case here. Patti LaBelle put much more power and passion in this song than Celine did. In my opinion Patti's vocals are just much stronger and better than Celine's, which is why her version will always be better.

  • @JacksonObamafan4life xorry but theres no one that had a stronger voice than celine. Shes inhumane, shes d only person in the world that can sing perfectly live, not even mariah.

  • @griik123 LOL! Do you seriously believe yourself? Celine's voice is one of the best the ever was, but certainly not the strongest. It has been said by many artists that Patti LaBelle's voice is one of, if not the strongest out there and there ever was. And you wanna talk about live, Patti LaBelle actually won a Grammy and several other awards for one of her live concerts( Live! One Night Only). She actually does better live than on a studio recording most of the time, as for Celine not so much.

  • @JacksonObamafan4life maybe u tell me that next time patti will have a 120 million contract at ceasars palace and sold 250 million albums. lol

  • @griik123 Yea your right "LOL", because what does that have to do with anything? I thought we were comparing vocals here. How did you get on contracts with a palace. Of course you had to go there, because your are probably getting the idea that Celine's voice does not have as much power as Patti's. Wait you might not understand that though, because from the sounds of it, you obviously don't know anything real about Patti LaBelle. I can make these judgments, because I know about both artists.

  • @JacksonObamafan4life Celine Dion DOESN'T SING THIS SONG BETTER THAN PATTI. You want to know why? BECAUSE PATTI SINGS IT WITH SOUL AND ROYALTY. Patti Labelle did this song around the time she died adn seh really cried in the music video as well. PATTI SLAYS THIS SONG. Anyone will tell you if they're musically KNOWLEDGEABLE that patti labelle is the best VOCALIST that has ever LIVED. LET'S BE REAL. Even David Foster would admit to it.

  • @jpoplover350 UHHHH...did you thoroughly read my comment because I kinda said what your are actually saying!!!...Or are you agreeing with me...b'cuz I can't tell.

  • @jpoplover350 nope not true don't forget the beautiful amazing voice of Anita Baker.....

  • @jpoplover350 patti isnt dead

  • But the B4 belt that she sustained was beautiful

  • Her high chest voice is nasal... so it's not strong like Patty. Fail

  • Eww

  • celine dion is my fav singer but sorry pati version is much much better

  • @monas you got that right

  • Celine's cover is so much better... hse is a much better singer

  • @hero7D I agree

  • the "baby" combined w/ the guitar riff after the first verse gives me chills

  • comparing Celine Dion and Patti LaBelle and asking who is better is like comparing a classical to a jazz pianist....you dont, you just sit back and enjoy them for their individual styles

  • @lamaya43 Thank u

  • this isn't live... it's lipped like the concert in memphis 1997. compare the two versions. they sound exactly the same...

  • @mdm110679 Who cares? BTW, there are some differences between the 2 performances...

  • @xXCelineDionXx who cares? I do, many people do. differences? what are they??

  • @mdm110679 Many people? 2 dozens of youtubers isn't what I'd exactly call ''many people''...

Listen to the first 50 seconds and the ending in both performances. They're different.

  • @xXCelineDionXx of course they are... the beginning and the ending are live, the middle of the song is pre-recorded. as she does with the power of love and many many others... :-)

  • @mdm110679 Well, you said : ''differences? what are they??''

so this just proves that you were unable to spot the differences between the 2 performance otherwise you wouldn't have asked that question in the first place.

  • @xXCelineDionXx it was ironic, of corse :-)

  • @xXCelineDionXx Ignore him, his days consist of commenting every lipped performances of Céline on Youtube and writing "this isn't live" as if it was a scoop or as if he was a genius and discovered that all by himself (Thanks CDLive btw...) I couldn't care less at the beginning but his comments are becoming increasingly boring, I agree...

Anyway, I'm very sad that this song is not part of the James Bond Medley Vegas. It sucks!

  • If you are concerned about her outfit, you're better off at a fashion show than a concert. Who really cares about her clothes?

  • Can anybody get CD to get her voice out of her nose and make some PLEASANT sounds?

  • @stevevandien Maybe you'll like her performance of the song from a year earlier than this..it's GREAT /watch?v=jRkBldBuXmo

  • I've never heard Patty Labelle's version...I think Celine released this in 1993?...And I remember hearing it the first time and thinking this is Barbara Streisand...with some soul. The 14 count sustained note at the end of the bridge and then the skats to finish the tune are pretty much the way she performed the studio version. I think she did that recording before Autotune was common place in studios...and even if it took a couple takes to get it perfect...it's pretty good stuff.

  • i´ve heard celine sing this song before, and i must say i´ve never heard her sing it like this... this is just down right beautiful. i love it. but i dont think its fair to compare her to pattie. they both have very beautiful voices and both deserve equal notice. i will say that Pattie is the original singer of this song and NO ONE will sing it like her. but celine came pretty damn close...lol

  • To compare Dion to LaBelle is wholly insulting. Dion's voice is completely beyond - in a league of its own, simply off the charts. To say that Dion can sing is a monumental understatement. LaBelle screams and grunts, period.

  • @equinoxranch as a fan of both Celine and Patti im kinda impartial and for you to state that celines vocal is anywhere near that of pattis is whats insulting, what has celine done lately how long has she been in showbiz, Patti is a legend always will be would like to see celine at 65 and see if she still has sell out tours and is still singing!!

  • I'm a huge Patti Fan and I love Celine as well, she can do no wrong in my eyes as a singer BUT This just doesn't sound right being sung by her. The song has Patti written all over it so much so that it's is hard for anyone who can't meet her level or top it to even try and touch it. This is Patti's song forever nothing else can be added to it. Her original recording of this song was perfection celines was just not engaging or all that meaningful.

  • This was my first english song i listened to, made me liking english songs. Celine is Great!

  • Patti's is best to me..i like celine but i just dnt like her on this song. Patti's version charted at #79 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Chart. So it did enjoy some success..it wasnt a flop by any means..but of course Celine's did far better..I think marketing plays a bigger role than just race..imo.

  • That high note towards the end is so amazing. In the movie Celine this is the song she was singing on stage when Rene walks away for a year before they both give in and admit their feelings despite the age difference.

  • She really owned this song <3

    Amazing!

  • Celine really owned the song, i think. Her version has the passion without losing class, elegance, and beauty... Patti's although also passionate suffers from self-gratuity, especially her live performances, she improvises so much, does so many changes that the audiences gets lost... music means sending a message across the audience.. and if all you do are adlibs, techniques, histrionics... you fail..

  • @sephulturero01081986 But you gotta realize that Patti's version is the best version its the original version, and no other version, and the audience isn't lost ever they're to busy enjoying Ms. Patti's beautiful voice, so maybe you should go to some of her concerts. She's a totally better singer.

  • What the hell is she wearing?

  • @LVishere

This is one thing i criticize celine for, though being a fan. In her early years she wasn't so fashionable

  • Believe it or not I am a Patti defender I know which has been her goals and achievements , but in this case just won: The beauty of the sound, the class during the act of singing the details and not the strident and harsh Patti is the singer that you need in live concerts to put the audience in an extreme heart attack with these possibilities that she already has : high notes with a high volume and confident and security in her self

  • Covered?? I as more than a half of audiences think the opposite

  • Without any doubt Celine made this song her own song, in the entire world This song is known as a Celine song...why? Just as to the audiences, just ask to the deep soul of people.

I recognize how Patti can yelling and how she took our her songs in an aspect to beat everything possible with just the use of strident high notes to impact the ear of audience, not their souls, because it si no t a secret the sound of patti is nasal and her timbre is not totally beauty as whitney

  • @luis85698 Its directly apparent that Celine did absolutely nothing to make "this song her own". Nobody on the planet has the ability to emulate power as well and soulfully affecting as Patti LaBelle. LaBelle's voice much more layered and stronger than any other. NOBODY can match the emotional impact LaBelle puts into her songs - and sure as hell NOT Celine with her thin and nasally tone covered by extreme passionless and cold technical barking.

  • @skye009 Celine as Renata Tebaldi in Opera has every note with sound, with timbre, and ding. I remember Tebaldi saying in a tone to defend herself of the critics : My voice is entire without holes in all my tessitura in comparison with Callas and others singers at her time; Celine seems to be the same, every note has a continuing with the subsequent note sometimes called "Portamento"

  • @skye009 But I know not exactly the power of Patti (she is really strong enough) but her ability to beat or to attack the high natural register with a lot of confident like no one but and that is my question.."Where is the beauty of the sound" in the yell in the shout ?" Could her clean easily her own notes in her entire register? she never has showed any interest in that way as barbra, whitney or Celine...Do you know what mean "To Clean" or may be to "purify the sound"

  • @skye009 and on the other hand Celine did not , Celine has a pure sound "Did you notice how many times I have been written repeatedly about "sound" which is the essence of music. Do you know how many singer failed in the way to portray Mozart? even the legends which is a word commonly used for you? and do you know why??

what exactly is needed to sing high notes and every note with beauty or at least with a pure and no hawking sound?

  • DION SUCKS, THE CHORUS IS SUNG MOSTLY BY THE BACKUP SINGERS. SHE SUCKS.

  • im lovin tht note a 2:55

  • 3:36 is sublime!

  • i heard both versions, but let me tell to everyone : céline is a billion better than patti.

sorry patti's fan céline has a strong beautiful voice and brought sensations to this song.

  • Celine's tone is more beautiful I think, but I also like Patti. But I think Celine bring Patti's song to another level in my opinion.

  • Celine did a beautiful job with Patti's song but Patti is second to none

  • wow she did a great job i didnt think she would do this good! but sorry i gotta say patti's was better... but celine is pretty close!

  • Comment removed

  • they're both equally good. =] every singer has a different style of singing a song. so let them be. =]

  • @ReGbOy88 totally agree I love both versions. I like Celine's a tad more but I would never put down Miss LaBelle either. Definitely love both versions.

  • No, sister: fuck YOU.

  • never heard her version but the heffer stole Patti's song and could not sing it 1/2 as good!

  • i love patti and celine's version well i love them both period its sad how you guys down them by comparing the two i mean are they both suppose to sound just alike or something .... give this song to rihanna and i you'll see a joke celsius

  • @Celsius30 FUCK YOU!

  • @Celsius30 And Celine ISNT a joke? Please. Patti is a legend that TOWERS above Celine's LACK of vocals.

  • @skye009 So in that sense Patti is defeated , because I know Patti since the beginnings in 1962 and she was amazing, but using the Black technique , the technique based in the whole use, using naturals and falsetto notes. Some good singer says Falsetto are the cancer of the voice, and in somehow it is true, but I have to recognize that some falsettos or head notes as usually and wrong term people use are really beautiful if not just listen the greats Whitney Houston falsettos

  • @skye009 You have to born to obtain that result the timbre is something gifted by GOD, Maria Callas knew it, and she tried but at the end she felt in her accomplish, Patti has and had a great voice in her own style, with holes my friend, she skip, many notes in the center and just pass immediately to the high note to impress my dear, just to impress and I recognize her achivement

  • @skye009 the legend my dear has not to do with a song , it is a recognizance to a career which is just exceptional and Patti really has done like just a few female vocalist have achieved in the pop industry history and she belong to that kind of hall of fame to say something easily understandable , so what else I like both singer in their own ways of doing art. a lot of love to all those people who love music with that intensity

  • she's legendary, timeless! God bless her more! :)

  • celine's version is way way better..

  • are u kiddin me celine has n feelin in her voice, no soul or passion like Patti

  • @biritbaby thats a stupid somment its the same version celine didn't change anything lol obviously celine thinks patti's version(lol) is great

  • the hell i care of what she thinks.. im just venting out my opinion..

  • @biritbaby lo; exactly what you say is only your opinion, your reply is exactly what i wanted

  • @biritbaby well if u dont have a nice opinion to say then don't say it at all because everyone on here will tell u otherwise. hah.

  • well, i dont care with what youre gonna say about my opinion.. patti's version is for oldies like you..

  • actually i'm only 21. lol. and i like celine's better.

  • i liked patti's betta cause she showed allot mo energy to it but i lobe celine too

  • I love celine but patti is better at singing this song.

  • GooD Day

  • I like both versions of this song I think because most people heard Pattis version first they think that it is better or simply just because they think Patti is a better singer I think Celine is a better singer and when she sings this song she sticks on singing it one way she doesnt go up and down and she has a more powerful voice THIS IS JUST MY OPINION I think Celine made a lot of songs that werent that famous really famous this is one of them

  • LOL, sorry but just because YOU didnt know patti song this song dosen't mean it was not a hit or famous, trust me everyone knows this is a patti song, and she did not need celine covering the song to make it popular

  • haah i know it was really popular before celine sang it

  • @Bahia82

Celind didn't cover the song to make it popular. She just did it cuz she loves it

  • @Bahia82 agreed however I think the James Bond film Licensed to Kill put this song in front of just about every person in the world.

I had just saved the life of my ex and this song really hit me hard.

  • Celine doesnt not have a more powerful voice than Patti Labelle, Patti will outsing, out do anything celine could do

  • @chakafan12

People need to stop with the comparisons, those two women are good friends and closer than the entire lot of us here here on youtube or anywhere else in cyberspace could possibly ever know...neither of them gives two hoots about what anyone here thinks of any version of DIANE WARREN'S song, the point is everyone involved in EITHER production made lots of money from it, and the only people unhappy about it are the folks here on this board. Ridiculous. Let it rest.

  • Comment removed

  • I didnt even know Patti Labelle sang this song until ten years after I heard Celine sing it...and hearing Celines version first I likes Celines versions better

  • MAN THIS IS SO WACK LMAO IF U GOING TO STEAL THE Original MAKE IT REALLY HOT SHE CAN'T EVEN HOLD THE NOTES LIKE PATTI THIS TO POP......ITS SAD AND ITS SO NOT IT LOL I LOVE CELINE BUT GIRL STOP STEALING PEOPLES SONGS SHE GOT SOME HOT SONG THAT SHE MAD BUT THIS WILL ALWAYS BE PATTI'S SORRY LOL

  • Comment removed

  • @abvgvideos

    you better say it!

  • misskitae i cant agree with you more! this woman has the voice of an angel. just cuts through your soul. in a good way. she is awesome

  • perfect - you can`t sing and interprete this better

a real full lyric soprano voice

  • Patti has been around a long time because she has talent and color has nothing to do with that. You have it or not no matter what color you are blessed with. Celine is a true talent, too, and not because she is white. These ladies are awesome and they respect each other. Why can't we?

  • @1966spartan1 I second that emotion!!!!

  • Celine is just amazing here

  • I like both versions, and they can both sing their asses off, but I believe that the reason why Celine's version is bigger than Patti is because she's white. Plain and simple. I guess they feel that a black woman won't sell so they will give it to a white female artists. It shows how bias they are towards black female singers with soulful voices. It's like if a white woman sings like Patti Labelle, she will sell a lot of records but if a black woman sings like Patti Labelle, it won't sell.

  • Oh God, not this again.

  • AMAZING

  • Oh and one other note Patti sung the hell out of this song when she was making the video for it. She had just learned her sister died; I belive on the date of her video shoot.

  • I don't know why Patti's version didn't do as well on the charts as Celine's. I found Patti's version so much more powerful, intense, and emotional. I remember I was aboslutely incensed when I heard someone else covered the song on the radio and was really taken back that it turn out to be Celine Dion.

  • I've heard both, and I think Celine just did a better job with the song.

Celine's voice was consistent through the whole song, but Patti's voice kept shifting and changing, and at times it just didn't sound good to me at all. It's more emotionally infused, but it just doesn't strike me the way Celine's does.

That's just my opinion, take it as you will.

  • I thought it was the other way around! I love the way Patti's version ends, so powerful and emotional.

  • It does end more powerfully, but her voice takes on so many variations, soft to bold to high to low to...

Celine sticks to the one sound, which can be boring and blah, but it's consistent. She may not feel the song as deeply or strongly, but she still sings it well.

I like both voices and both versions, I just prefer Celine's.

  • I love celine and I love how she sings this song. I sling for Patti's version best though live and recorded. In the commentary by the poster, "Mabaker" says that both version was hit. Only Celine was a big hit. Unfortunately, Patti's was not. She made it only popular for her through concert and TV appearances. Again, Celine do an excellent job covering this for sure!! Both artist are great!!

  • Patti is the better singer but both of their versions are beautiful.

  • I could say that I have appreciated this song more when Celine recorded it. I'm not sure if it's just me but Patti's voice really irritates me esp when she's trying to hit high notes, she's even off key sometimes. Oh well, somebody must tell me that there's something wrong with my ears but I'm just stating my honest opinion here. Peace to y'all Patti fans! I luv Celine D!

  • I HAVE RE MIX MICHAE;L JACKSON

  • Although both Celine and Patti have high sturdy voices Patti's seems stronger and more robust. She feels more confident while belting and does it zealously.

Mind that it's not a shame to lose with Patii on that because she's knowned for being an insect in group performances where she drowns out everyone:)

  • Celine has the same reputation though. :)

I kind of have the opposite opinion to you. I thought Celine put more passion into it, while Patti's was more delicate and 'pretty' (most of the time). But then, I'm comparing Patti's video with Celine's live, so that might be the difference.

  • she is one of a kind but i like pattis vercion better

  • Incredible!

  • BeTTer...spelling check lol

  • I like Patti's original version from James Bond License to Kill but I prefer Celine's. Patti tries too hard to embelish in her concert versions...I think to make it different. I like both Patti's and Celine's originals. Beter two versions than none. Smile :)

  • Im a black female and my mom raised me on Patii. I love love love Patti and I love both versions of the song but if I HAD to choose, I prefer Celine's. Im a Patti fan and I also like Celine. Cant be biased. Just really feel Celine's version.

  • Esse vídeo é maravilhoso, gosto muito dessa música
