According to flightradar24 and the noticeable rumble of a 747-400, Virgin is using both their 1995 747-400 and A330 on the orlando route.

@BlackParis86 because the 747 pilots are flying the 747's. Furthermore, it is essential that each airways have some surplus pilots in case of emergency, i.e a pilot fall's ill, retire's, leaves or goes on strike etc.

@5Oblivion to boost their green credentials.... a330 is much more efficient than 777. also virgin atlantic are swaying more towards twin airliners as apposed to the four engined beasts. they cancelled the order of the a380's and instead opted for two a340-500's and a fleet of 787's to replace the ageing 744's. i know the a340-500 is four engined but it has the longest range of all passenger planes making it more economical and efficient.
