  • nice video... great music

  • OK ... I need a smoke after that.

  • ....this isnt obviously isnt "habanera".... this song is "el vito" wonder why this is titled way offf

  • @crazywild28 ......perhaps it has something to do with the word habanera being a type of dance and the style in which this piece was written.......

  • Dumb.

  • Brava, brava, brava. As a queer, I can tell that her jewelry is expensive. Understand what the music is about its about being out there and being alive. We all wanted to feel like rockstars at one time or another. And I would suspect that maybe this was intended at a non-american audience. It has a high fashion kind of look. But it's her voice and her interpretation.

  • Not Habenera...i adore Elina's voice, but does she really have to dress and wear make up like a $5 ho.

I'm a straight guy and i reckon i could dress her better then this. What ever happened to feminine elegance?

  • @sidvidkid Lol Have you ever seen Carmen :P Cheap Ho

  • @operaphantom2005

No but i'd love to tho. Was that an invite?

  • Also, they should have danced together. There was almost no story. Nice music, but when did theatrics become a lost art?

  • Habanera is the album name's, the song is El Vito, spanish popular song for children. this is the Fernando Obradors' version. But Elina Garanca is always the best.

  • Elina Garanca always explendid!

  • Ēlīna Granča malace! :)))

  • i didnt know pam anderson sings opera...oh sorry, is elina garanca, i love her, but with that make up and dress looks like a bitch.

  • The guy is absolutely sexy!

  • VERY superficial, indeed. Small flat voice. Carmen should set you on fire, shouldn't she?

Callas, Baltsa, Berganza were real Carmen.

  • "El vito" by Fernando Obradors.

  • Wonderfully, just wonderfully accomplished video. Music that takes your soul far away to some southern land of Sun and vineyards and Elina who beside her superb voice is beautiful beyond all dreams. God, how lovely she smiles! As for me the concept of the video entirely suits music. I wish "Carmen" at the Met was made with same passion!

  • See Berganza for a great rendition of this song

  • It's the song No.7 "El café de Chinitas" from Trece canciones españolas antiguas by Federico Garcia Lorca. Spanish pronunciation and accent are awful and lyrics are impossible to understand

  • she is superficial... ti don't like todays singers... they lack true feelings

  • ¿Habanera?....

  • She is like a devil with full of passion and fire inside.

  • Did they have sex between 2:22 and 2:23?

The comely Miss G has a beautiful and wonderful voice; but this video should have been so much better.

  • I love Elina, but I don't like this video, overacted.

  • A hooker? Porn star?she's just being sexy, she's not dressed up like Britney Spears.

  • Shoot the producer of this video, I say!

But Elīna IS amazing - as always!

  • When Talent meets beauty !

  • JUST MY FAVOURITE ARTIST EVER !

  • I love her, but she looks like a hooker in this video. *sigh*

  • the video doesnt match the talent at all.....black & white would have been better.

  • SHE IS JUST GREAT ANYWAY SHE APPEARS, SHAME THA SKINY MULES OF THE VIDEO, I HAVE HORSES THAT WILL STAND HER GREATNESS AND THE RANCH WILL KEEP UP HER BEAUTY , THE ONLY THING MISSING IT´S ME AT HER LAP

El Vito belongs to traditional music from Andalusia, Spain. This song is nothing to do with Habaneras. She sings in Spanish nevertherless is not very clear. Teresa Berganza makes one version highly recommeded.

  • What a waste of her time and talent. Whoever convinced her that this was a good idea should be fired. Was it the same person that does not know how to focus a video camera perhaps?

  • Nice tits.

  • beautiful voice; cheap images, vulgar; sorry for the lady.

  • what a voice! love the video! the guy's hot too! bravo to everything!

  • It takes more than heavy mascara to make sexy. Fortunately she has all the rest too.

  • It' s not "Habanera", this song is "El vito"

  • Spanish theme with French Lyrics you mean. I have noticed that French Operas tend to have a lot of passion in them! Les Filles De Cadix is another passionate Song too!

  • so beautiful so sexy

  • She's hot!

  • She can do no wrong in my eyes!

  • omg this song doesnt fit the video xD... looks like an shakira video..

she should be standing with a long black dress, with her hair down..

  • Very well said bltmz23!!!!

  • Very well said bltmz23!!!!

  • I love her but she looks like a cheap American porn star in this vid.

  • @veganazi She is dressed like a modern day gypsy! Get with it!

  • @veganazi Not €50 a pop cheap. More like $150 a take cheap.

  • @veganazi

    I completely agree with you.

  • @veganazi is makeover with art and creativity, your comment is very unfortunate, I hope and apologize. otherwise I want the people who can do their utmost to bring to Mexico because here we need to personally see her vibrate with her voice so I favor that she has.

  • @veganazi and what is wrong with looking like a cheap American porn star may I ask???? That voice and looking that hot she could fill opera houses with randy men in the proverbial NY minute. Pesonally I think she looks great...

  • @veganazi Well... Carmen wasn't really an angel and is described (atleast in the book from merimee) as a very lustful and sensual woman who had quite a lot of sex ;) So I don't think it's a huge step from that to a Porn star xD But of course everyone can have a different opinion, but I myself don't think that the video is all that bad :)

  • @XxIndigoWarriorxX There's a difference between sensual and skanky, and this comes off as skanky to me, just my opinion.

  • @veganazi Well you're right, that is a difference, but I myself don't find it skanky :) And even if, skanky isn't all that bad I think :) But that again is another opinion. I just think being skanky isn't a bad thing by itself :)

  • ive fallen in love with her again!!!

  • Elīna is the BEST Latvian singer!

  • @BenjaminFonseca I know, I adore Netrebko but she's a soprano... Garanca is a mezzo!!

  • @BenjaminFonseca

  • Wow, classical Lady Gaga!

  • I caan't understand her Spanish, it sounds garbled together. Not to be mean, just sayin'.

  • @argentummaty it's opera my dear...

  • I'm in love. hahahha!!!

  • my favorite!!!!!!elina its the best mezzosoprano...

  • Call me a purist, but she's dressed up like a tart and she's lipsyncing. Doesn't add to the music!

  • Amazing !!! :D

  • No is wonder in spanish...

  • This awesome woman is really a superb Mezzo. It's also amazing to rediscover the Spanish Zarzuela Opera songs through her wonder voice. Very good job!

¡Realmente espectacular!

  • She´s perfect just standing (her ground) and singing. Is this some kind of Playboy late night video? Well it doesn ´t harm her at all. She´s got some sense of humour, doesn´t she? This is just a flawed fling with the mass media. Happens to many people.

  • This video demonstrates that today is still possible to take out something relevant from an opera singer.

  • Sbonk!

    ;-)

    ...and brava Garanca

  • this is El vito (Obradors)

  • am happy that this will be only a CD, not a DVD full of such clips

  • With my respect, I don't like the video clip, but She's an awesome singer, I love her presentations and her professional style, thank you.

  • I like Elina and the Zarzuela, but I think that video isn't a good video, She looks more like "Lita Ford" than a Spanish woman, but I love her interpretation, Deutsche Grammophon need another video clip producer.

  • @Arminiushoff

I guess you don't think Charo is Spanish either. You don't have to be a brunette to be Spanish.

  • I hate all purists... Beautiful music...! And gorgeous Garanca!

  • @ligiamonteiro0 yeah!! damn purists.....holy s#$"#$.....she is so fukn sexy!!!!...i can be gay just for her..hehehehhe... she has the more beutiful face i've ever seen.

  • What a ridiculous video. DG should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. Same for Garanca.

  • Love it =D So buying it!!!

  • God her spanish is terible hahahaha... beautiful voice.

  • Does anybody knows the composer of this habanera?

  • @Milkwithhoneyyy

Actually it's a popular spanish song called "El vito", probably original from Andalusia.

Several musicians made arrangements of the melody, even Sarasate "deconstructs and recycles" it towards the end of his "Romanza andaluza".During the Spanish civil war the antifascist troops changed the text to make a song called "El quinto regimiento"

This art song arrngement is by Fernando Obradors:

    /watch?v=eAKPWxcnDas

but if you search on YT you will get many other arrangements

  • @Jarajofife hate to correct you but the arrangement isnt by Obradors....he originally composed "El Vito" for voice and piano

  • @Jarajofife hate to correct you but the arrangement that Elina is singing too isnt arranged by Obradors...he originally composed "El Vito" for voice and piano

  • @sweetaztecangel69

Perhaps I wasn't very clear in my previous comment, sorry.I didn't meant this arrangement E.G. in this DGG cvideosings was by Obradors, but the one corresponding to the code I posted below his name (YT doesn't allow to post URL so I posted the "suffix" to paste after the "com" part in your browser's address box)

  • @sweetaztecangel69

Oh, and don't hate to correct me if you think I'm wrong, but I'm not, :p.

Seriously, "El vito" has been a well known traditional popular song in Spain for generations. Obrador wrote the arrangement that has become more famous in art music, but he didn't compose it.

It is said that García Lorca collected "El vito" along with many other southern spanish popular songs (he even recorded it in the 1920s o 30s on the piano accompaining a singer), but I don't know if that's true.

  • @Jarajofife

Of course I mean "collected for the very first time". Besides being one of the innovators in XX century poetry and theatre he was a decent pianist and did a kind of ethnomusicological collection of popular songs acros many villages in Andalusia.

Here you can listen to a much less "professional" version than Obradors':

    /watch?v=KRs2NWCP3yU

  • @Jarajofife I know Obradors...and I know EL VITO...I perform is frequently for auditions :] all I said was this arrangement wasnt his :] and El Vito (as with many other spanish works) was a poem and Obradors set it to music haha although I find the text funny lol

  • @sweetaztecangel69

I know this not a forum, so excuse me for writting this much.

Yes, yes, this arrangement isn't the one by Obradors, I told it before; I was referring to the video which link I posted, that one by Teresa Berganza, that's the famous Obradors' arrangement. But no, Obradors didn't compose the music. Every spaniard who has a slight knowledge of their floklore knows "El vito" too, but more significant, almost every spanish grandmother born at the beginning of the XX century knew it

  • But if you don't want to believe these documents either I think you at least will have to admit dates: I don't know the date Sarasate wrote his "Romanza andaluza", a piece inspired in andalusian popular music, but it is his op. 22; his catalogue contains 55 opus, so most probably "RA" wasn't composed very near his death, in 1908, Obradors was born in 1897.

  • do you know the composer of this habanera?

  • Fascinējoši

  • I am proud, that Elina is from my country, from LATVIA!

  • I did enjoy her beauty end her voice, sure the clip is kind of kitschig, but think she's only playing a role, like in any opera.

  • Despite all the negativity, I like this video. She is portraying someone other than herself, so the movement and sensuality will be different. Also, as someone who is young and only got into opera because of one of her performances, I like the video because it is unique and not stereotypical of what my age group imagines opera to be. I state all in this with a humble opinion. :)

  • @musicarius Like I thought Kesha while watching haha so I just listen to music :)

  • The text of the song (~):

An old woman is worth a real

and a young girl two cuartos,

but as I am so poor,

    I go for the cheapest.

    On with the dancing,

    on with the dancing, ole!

    Stop your teasing, sir,

    else I'll blush!

  • Bravo, Elina, for the courage and for the portrayal! Those who moan about the video or looks - come on - it's just a small video - a role among many roles, looks she have had, both with wigs and without wigs - not an audiovisual genre that Elina is going to focus from now :) Elina is a unique artist! Having had a priviledge to hear the CD - be prepared for an amazing spectrum and range of music (and even singing) styles, characters , emotions - from light to very dark, tender and passionate.

  • La Bardot du chant lyrique ! Formidable !!!!!!!!!

  • Absolutely agree with NouvelleMatiere!!!! Saw Garanca recently on stage and her presence is enchanting and definitely draws you to watch, but NOT like this video!

  • This is Elina trying to do Anna and Anna does Anna better!

  • @ NouvelleMatiere Es verdad

  • hmmm..........oh elina what were you thinking euro trash to the max.....still, the voice pleases.

  • Wow she looks so nice!!!!

The cd is gonna be amazing! I'm sure!

And...the guy in the video is ugly...ha ha

  • besides this is just one visual representation of the music. We Opera buffs know that this image is not befitting of her temperament but that doesnt mean she has to conform to our standards, she has the right to step outside the box, especially if its for the sake of art. I'd be worried if all her projects were like this but they aren't. Having said this, I still think she could improve her enunciation; I am fluent in Spanish and I cant make out all the words. Oh and I think she looks pretty :)

  • lol my first impression of this was similar to a lot of the comments below...I thought 'wow they certainly went a little overboard with this' but on second thought it occurred to me: she is an Opera Diva so why the hell not? If anyone has the right to look pretty and glamorous its her...Opera singers work their butts off for like ten years in conservatories in order to master this art form! Why should all those talentless hacks who sing pop get to have fun and not her?

  • nobody equals the beauty and sex appeal of Anna Netrebko, good try Elina Garanca, but nope, you are not pretty, no sexy, sorry.

i have the baden concert with Anna Netrebko, Ramon Vargas, Lodovic Tezier and you..you look like a wax museum figure.

  • @BenWagnerFan OK THAT'S A LITTLE HARSH.

I am a BIG Anna fan so I 'm not trying to say that Anna is not sexy and hot.

I just think you have to be realistic. And tell the truth: ELINA IS SEXY.

    .

  • @operagirlify THATS YOUR TRUTH, NOT MY TRUTH, FOR ME (AND IS MY PERSONAL OPINION) ELINA IS NOT PRETTY, NO SEXY, she dont make me desire her, ANNA do that!!

please be realistic?? :S which reality, yours or mine?

  • Well, I can`t understand why everyone is so pissed??

Spanish songs are NOT Mozart or Bellini! It`s all about passion, emotions, love, hate, man & woman! It`s wild! It`s vital! Maybe even brutal...... And this video shows it all! Spanish music is not about what is or not right! It`s about how you feel smthng at some moment.

When Garanča sung Carmen at the MET, you all were amazed! And the visual aspect of this video and Carmen are in some way similar... She`s just blond here! :)

  • @bltmz23 Agreed! The people that try to ignore the fact that 99% of opera plots are driven by SEX are just stubborn and/or ignorant. This is CARMEN, she's a sultry gypsy!!! Really, what do you expect?

  • @bltmz23 Sorry. This video is nothing but cheap stereotype. She is a wonderful singer and surely her production team can do better than this.

  • lol, Ke$ha does opera?

  • this song is "el vito" , very nice song!!! and Elina has a wonderfull voice!!!!

  • An exotic video, no doubt, but which highlights the incredible beauty of La Garanča.

The song? An enjoyment... Her voice? I am speechless... :-))))

    IMHO.

  • Who talked her into this? She should fire that person immediately.

  • forget the video, it\s too embarrassing for words, the song is overdone too. she has no idea how to sing these types of songs. why doesn't she record something latvian?

  • New diva, Elina Garanca!

  • Overdone. It is not her.

  • @gkopij I agree!

  • @nyorker218 Thanks. IMHO EG would be a superb Carmen in a tasteful, intelligent, modern production instead of stereotypical Gypsy, oversexed and very often vulgar portrayal. Carmen is beautiful and sexy because she is smart and knows her power. EG got all, no need to make her into something she is not. IMO.

  • @daapdoop: yes, I agree with you.. not the right concept.

  • BEST! BEST! The best!

The very first recording I`m waiting soooooo much!

And I don`t care the cover of the CD, non anything else, but the superb voice, magnificent piecies performed by my La Divina - Elīna Garanča!

    This is SOOOOMETHING!!!!!!

  • Voice is magnificent, but what was DG thinking when designing the images. Awful.

  • what's with the image change? I like the voice and music but I don't care for the over-the-top makeup, overdone sensual gestures and bedroom eyes. Makes it look like a muted pop video matched with a classical track. :/

  • Qué talento!

  • I can't say Brava enough.... she's so talented...
