There's actually a political allegory embedded in this film.

The setting of 1966 is when the collective "Hong Kong" identity and culture first take shape. It is regarded as the "dawn" of this city. to me his movies are true pieces of art.

the way he works with pictures and music,magnificent!

i was watching fallen angel the other day and was so impressed by the movie and that most of it was improvised.

his movies always tell their own kind of story,so simple and pure,quiet and deep.

he doesn't need some extra effects or noise.

they just tell about true,deep feelings.without the extra drama most movies wouldn't work without

Kar Wei Wang has left the viewers with loads of room to imagine. I love how he purposefully left so many trivial yet fantastic details.

But I do not know why, I cannot stand 2046. The only scene I liked about 2046 was the scene with Carina Lau where she paused for a short moment...thinking of the past with "York" in Days of Being Wild. I thought her performance in that scene was superior.

I love just about everything in this movie, the acting, the music, her dresses, their stories and the settings. Each shot itself can be a portrait. My husband and I visited Hong Kong in 2006, and we brought back a carry-out container similar to the one Ms Sue used (found it in More Law Street). I am now collecting the Fire King Jadeite dishes.

This movie is one of the best I've ever watched. Classic.

On top of the marvelous performance by Tony and Maggie, the music accounts for a big chunk of this movie's classicality. It just fits into the scenes so seamlessly. I didn't research the awards this movie earned, I would really be surprised if music was not among those awards. It's so beautiful and sad, totally agree with richmattgal, you get emotionally drained just by listening to the music, even without watching the movie. Classic....

i am stuck by how many try to uplift the other movies in the "supposed" trilogy to great status. This movie is one of the top 10 of all time. Cinematography alone earns it that honor. The dresses - the sound - the emotion with no dialogue - all are incomparable. I always use the example of how beautiful even the smoke is above his head. I challage someone to find a more beauiful combination of sie and sound on cinema.
