I don't mean to offend but the hippie looking lady at the start makes it easy to dismiss this video as being whinig from tree huggers etc... it's a pity she couldn't have appeared a bit more "professional". Anyway as a fisherman it sickens me to think of how many rivers have been lost in the name of "progress". I intend to fish this river before it gets dammed and take loads of photos for posterity. Soon we will look back and wonder what our pristine wilderness would be worth if it still existed
I have spent quite a bit of time in the 'Mok' gorge, truly beaut. I am from the Coast and this is the second or third time now they have tried to dam the river. Thing is for rec users etc there are benefits but the reason many people explore these tracks etc in buller is isolation and the wildeor factor. Along with a rec park and the proposed 'old ghosts' road to lyall i feel we would lose this wildeor feel. Incidentally there cudbe good resources of gold to be found in a few tributarys there.
Beautiful river, beautiful video. What a tragedy if they destroy it - New Zealand has only a tiny fraction of its virgin forest left, I can't believe people are considering wiping out more of it.
Just one thing - wasn't that Fat Freddy's Drop, not Trinity Roots on the soundtrack???
You're right, there is more to worry about. I'm campaigning for the Mokihinui because that is where my passion is and it's logistical for me to focus on one issue at a time. I hope your campaign for 'people' goes well too.
20 years ago, I would have been just as as passionate as you.Sadly, sometimes when you grow older, the scales fall from your eyes and you meet realitly in all its appalling detail!.
In response to "neohip" how can you just disregard out beautiful native forests, and state there is more in our country to worry about? This issue is just as important as any, don't be so disrespectful, keeping New Zealand natural and saving our forests is a huge important issue, have a little more respect for our country.
you are right.I was having a bad day/week/month/year,when I posted those comments.
We should not entangle the sheer beauty of our natural world, with the politics and harsh realities of the "real" world.I know too well that we need the former to escape from the latter!. I,like you, am a lucky Kiwi.
I walked this river several times in the early 70's. It was a great place. It took a good day to walk from the road end to the Forks hut. It is good to see it again on this video.

Eh.... whats this all about?
Never heard of it before.Don't we have more in our country to worry about?.
What about the PEOPLE.You know, the poor buggers just out of shot wondering when they can afford to leave 'Paradise' to escape to Aussie?

This video isnt about saving people its about saving an irreplacable landscape.
We have the chance in NZ to not repeat the mistakes other countries have made.
People can make their own choices. The land and rivers are at our mercy. We should protect not destry.

I am sorry if my comment seemed rather curt.

Another awesome video ben, dont let them dam it. This is such an amazing river with a true wilderness feel. Go paddle it and youll want to save it.
