It Mississippi Half Step, Garcia-Hunter tune from Wake of the Flood. I hadn't looked for music or vids from JID or Dregs for a long time. just found out that T Lavitz died. :-( RIP T. Anyone know how?
@MrTheotherone2 i was just about to come on here to say i found the song! thank you anyways. thats a damn shame about Lavitz though, i also did not know that...RIP. his cause of death doesn't seem to be revealed. if you don't already own any JID albums, i highly recommend them. never ceases to amaze the hell outta me
right around 3:40 jimmy just throws in a little jerry lick right there i love it. givin props all the way through, jerry and jimmy will always kick ass
@MrTuneages I didn't up these myself, but here are a ton of live shows. They are so tight they might as well be studio. mediafire-dot-com /?xniw63fj94j5x
First of all, if you're going to rag on TREY than at least spell his fucking name right. Secondly, Trey is a fucking incredible jazz musician. Doesn't take an expert to realize this. Listen to Phish's recording of Charlie Parker's "Donna Lee," where Trey plays every sax note. Just because Trey plays less straightforward jazz than Jimmy Herring doesn't make Trey any less of a jazz musician. They're both incredible. I'm fucking sick of hippies arguing childishly one way or the other.
@CaptainCavemaan Trey mid 90's is probably my favorite guitarist of all time, but to claim that he is as capable of playing jazz as Herring is false. Did you listen to Herring's solo album lifeboat? Trey stumbles through jazz solos (especially live), Jimmy runs through them like nothing. But i don't listen to Trey for jazz. RIP Lavitz.
jimmy herring is a living legend. he proves it every time he goes on stage. i've been to almost 50 panic shows since he joined the boys back in 06 and he never seizes to amaze me!!!
Jimmy is my second favorite living guitarist. I own a lot of his music on cd's. Trey is my favorite though, but Jazz is Dead is my jewel in the rough I found. Sure wish these guys would tour again someday. I'll be waiting !
these things change as every musician develops and evolves i think, but seriously jimmy herring has been my favorite guitarist on earth for going on two years now, (and i've pretty much run the gamut...dave gilmour, jimmy page, john mclaughlin, pat metheny, etc.) his tone and phrasing are just so disgustingly awesome
these guys are so sick. i saw the most recent line up (post-Herring) at Toads Place in New Haven, CT on 3-9-06 an it was still cool but i would have loved to see Herring rip it up, hes really one of the most underrated guitarists ever. Instead Jeff Peevar was on guitar and Dave Livolsi on bass with Rod Morgenstein and Jeff Sipe on drums and T. Lavitz on the keys. They were on a tribute tour for Blues For Allah's 30th Aniversary playing songs from that album and other tunes as well.
i absolutely love jimmy i dont know why people rip on him for maybe shredding a little too much sometimes. who cares hes about as close to being a perfect guitarist as you can get IMO
Jimmy's a nice player , but for me , I'd rather listen to Jerry on an off night , than hear Jimmy . That's me anyway . I don't mean to argue , best wishes to you , but that's how I feel . There's something under the music , behind the notes .....
Peace, bro. I think I understand the sentiment involved with your comment, but, for me, the fact that Jerry was such a talented soul and played as though he didn't give a shit(drug problem) always bugged me and drove me to bands with more integrity. I feel he severely disrespected his fans with his attitude. Bands like DSO and JID have a better appreciation of music than did Jerry. Just my opinion.

Herring and Lavitz together is musical nirvana!
