This was made in 2011, you will be surprised as to how much more will be required to pay for even a few month supply will be almost more than this now in 2012. Too bad i didn't come across this back then.
i started prepping the day after japan earthqucke .did not no what to get but seeing this ,i feel much better .i was very close to what you said here.the highpoints are at less 2x hearvyer .but they shot true .very well done vid
Don't forget the 500 dollar wheat grinder. here is how to make yeast bread with no yeast packet - 1 cup flour - 1 cup water in pint jar cover with cloth and set on the counter over night - the next day you dump half of it out - then you add back in 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup water cover and set out over night - do this everyday for 4-5 days and you will notice it it gets frothy. Once it gets frothy, you put the half you dump out into your flour dough and mix - let rise. Replace the half and stir
@digmatology Or buy 12 jars of yeast. I did. Buy em on sale and stock up. Comfort food is something people need for mental status. Risen breads are my comfort food.
Inflation has already increased the prices of beans to over $1.00 per pound depending where you buy and what type of beans. I think herbs, spices and salt is very important because beans without these really can bring down spirits! Also a wheat hand grinder to process the wheat is pretty important too. Alternative cooking methods like cooking grains in a thermos can save a lot of fuel. Pressure cookers are very useful for some types of beans, however, not all beans can be cooked in them.
Skip crappy generic "Spaghetti" and grab some good quality pasta made with a brass die (brass means rough, holds sauce in it's texture. Teflon die = smooth and bland)
Maple syrup is an easy one to lower your cost on. 2 cups sugar half teaspoon maple extract 1 cup water makes 4 half cup servingas at 240 calories. 400 servings is 15 pounds sugar and 4 2 oz bottles of maple. Thats can cost around 20 maybe 25 bucks, theres an extra 100 dollars for preps. I figure long term stuff, its better to have multi purpose ingredients rather than single use items, sugar alon can go into so many things, and is so calorie dense.
just passing on something i heard on one of survivalistboards vids, when buying food, becare how big your cans are (ha ha). if you have a no 10 can of something that you crack open, but have no way of storing it after you've opened it, you'll either have to eat it all or throw it away, which would suck. ways arond this problem include, having a power source (but you might not always) or having alot of mouths to feed. just somethin to think about. great vid man.
to have more money left over you could replace syrup with jam, and it has a better nutritional value , just some advice from someone who likes your vids.
I would have recommended some kind of rifle in addition or in place of the pistol. More expensive but easy to hunt with. Even a .22 if funds aren't available. You can hunt small game and it still is a self defense piece. Bottom line.....it's a gun. I don't care, you shoot some one (last resort I hope) it won't matter what it was with. It's a bullet. Lastly you can hunt with the 9mm pistol but it's not as accurate.
Good, then make a video so everyone knows you would recommend a rifle. Im not sure how accurate you think a 9mm needs to be but I can hit a bowling pin with a 9mm at a 100 yards. Mabey your a bad shot it you cant hunt with a 9mm. You just contradicted your comment, You said recommed a rifle in place of a pistopl then you say Bottom line it doesnt matter what gun you shoot them with. Also I left almost $100 to buy what ever, ve got a marlin 60 for $65. Dont bother replying
One of the things I see missing is water...are you assuming that 'water' will be something new preppers will have immediate access to? Thanks for the feedback! Great vid! Sub'd channel!
Toss some lentils on that list....big tin of curry powder and a couple of big bottles of Tabasco will certainly make it easier to eat rice and beans regularly.
Nice to hear its good! I have wondered and its on my list to buy! Have you tried any of the canned butter from new zealand I think it is or the canned not freeze dried cheese? How are those? Dairy and bacon will be on my list next. Thanks for your response!
A solid starting point for a beginner to read over and at least get an idea of what is involved and what may be needed. It couldn't be drawn up much simpler than this.
Just was thinking that we all need a certain amount of fat in our diet (16grams minimum). I would add vegetable oil to this list for cooking. Olive oil would be even better but it gets pricey. You would get fat from meat but there isn't any meat on this one. Yes, vitamins. You'll need them on this basic diet, body can't make B-12 without meat. Make sure you have enough Vit C with bioflavinoids, not just ascorbic acid. Scurvy is a bitch and you don't have to be at sea to get it.
Thats why I add the mult vit. This is the cheapest way I could think of to do it. I think I said in the video, once you get this far then start add other things but this would at least give you a year of reserves!
If he got red kidney beans, they have a lot of protein and B12, it is a direct replacement for meat for vegans and what not. Vitamin C would be the biggest issue as it degrades in food over time.
@amusingisthedawn Good to know! As I'm NOT a vegan, I have no idea about that. As USFreedom22 says, get vitamins and store them in a cool, dark area. The only way to keep from being deficient in vitamins and minerals with an SHTF diet is to supplement. Hell, you can't get most of the stuff you need in the right quantities on a regular American diet. Great Video series!
lol... I just realized that for all the rice and beans we are stocking away we may want to figure out how much beano to store as well. I guess the gas could be used as alternative fuel though.
Great video! Its the first time I've seen it all written down like this with calories. This is for one person right?
With mult vitamins it should be fine. Remember this is just the bare min Its a great start. When you reach this goal you could add some other items that you feel are important.
Great Vids. The Hi-Point is a decent gun for the money but I'd also consider a Rossi Matched Pair .22/20 gauge combo so you can forage for cheap. The .22 is perfect for small game (plus the single shot 20 gauge makes a fairly decent defense weapon. . .just make sure you hit your target on the first round). You can usually find the matched pair for $100 on sale at Dick's or Academy
This was made in 2011, you will be surprised as to how much more will be required to pay for even a few month supply will be almost more than this now in 2012. Too bad i didn't come across this back then.
