I have being on an x-3 amazing ride quality. smooth, but not practical at all, I live in northeast coast of the USA, I would never own it, I get nasty snow storm in november, blizzard in dec-feb, and cold icy rain in falls. The road are filled with pothole and bump, flood street and icy road. my friend Toyota is more useful and reliable then this useless car/suv. Hell my bro American ford is useful.

I live in argyle and bute in scotland i used to have the old style bmw x5, parts to expensive to replace..got a CITROEN XSARA PICASSO in 2002 and still used it to this day does everything the x5 could do. exept not to great in deep mud.

Have driven it through floods,down forest tracks and down grass slopes..best car ever fraction of the price of the bmw.

The X5 is amazing to drive on the road. For handling and performance it will leave the range rover whimpering. Yes the range rover has a much more comfortable ride and road presence but it rolls like crazy in the corners and fuel costs are mental if you go for the V8. The Porsche Cayenne is quicker and handles just as well but the big price tag and personally the looks put most people off.

The X5 is not a contender off road though.

i don't know, but his x5 is the first generation one. even though it's old, i think german engineering and suspension tuning is way more advanced than american full size suvs or trucks. so i think the first generation x5 is just as smooth as the expedition right now, on a smooth road, i'll give that

you're wrong... apart from the so called improved comfort ... the RR has no other real advantage over the X5 on road.

The X5 is comfortable enough, but it also can be driven to the edge when needed to.

The engines are far superiour to those of the RR... and as for the luxury....

before the 2010 facelift... the RR Vogue was still using 1998 BMW Navigation Systems and random buttons.

Interiour design is a matter of taste... but the german ergonomy is obviously better.

2) I think the diesel is the most refined engine ever. Fast and incredibly economical (for a 2 tons suv)
