i agree with lazy, a bit to fast...but you are a god among men for being able to sing this song with such clarity and enthusiasm....the international orchestra was a bit weak though...you, as a lead singer though, near perfection
I also attended BG from 93-98 and had the honor of singing with The Men's Chorus for the time I was there. There was nothing like singing for RD Mathey. I can not express for you how good those groups were. Does anyone remember the two choir arrangement for Ava Maria. We preformed it around the end of my time there. I have never heard anything so pure in my life. I hope "you" the current members have such an experience. Brothers Sing On!
OMG this is sooooooooooo AWESOME thanks, too bad I only got to sing with u guys for only one semester but getting the chance to tour with you guys and Dr. Skoog was one the most fulfilling experiences i have yet to enjoy
thanks
P.S.
Im the blk guy in the last row 2nd or 3rd from the left......lol
Dr Skoog is great, and I didn't mean any disrespect to him. Its just that Prof. Mathey had the kind of passion so profound and so contagious that people idolize and will write books about years from now.
Sorry, L/M...have to side with Dan...Dr. Skoog is very good, but will never be able to take "America's Finest Singing Machine" to the heights that RD could...and did. RD rocks!
Hey, I have been BGMC brother for about three years now and I must say that Skoog is out of this world as a director and to compare him to RD is like apples and oranges. Two different individuals. RD has expressed his respect and admiration for this chorus and Dr. Skoog. Plus this isn't exactly us at our very best. Every ensemble has an off performance sometimes...
I attended Bowling Green from 1989-1991 as a piano major and sang in the Men's Chorus under Professor Mathey. Yes, he was the best! Looking back, those rehearsals with him and all the performances both on campus and while on tour were priceless AND good experiences. Does the current Men's Chorus still sing the humorous "Christopher Columbus?" Under Mathey, that was always the "signature comedy song". I was wondering if they still sing that. What memories!!
For now, we do not sing "Christopher Columbus." I have heard a lot of good things about it! Our current "signature comedy song" is called "Manly Men" it gives the audience a tour of the sections and shows off a silly side of choral music! we even have a part where some kind of gag takes place.
I have even had the pleasure of singing for Professor Mathey. He directed us during "Brothers Sing On" at a home concert at the end of fall tour 2 years ago. He is very charismatic, and it was an honor to have his direction, even for one song.
We changed some of the lyrical references to things that resembled the area of Bowling Green...which is why you hear "Myles Pizza," "Doyt Perry" (Stadium), Bush and Cheney (to make it more current), and of course the BG Men's Chorus line at the end!
