I like how they messed this up. The guy only presents actual evidence of the fire to the third man.
The key here is evidence. You have to present it in order to be taken seriously. Fires in buildings are a real thing, but since this is an analogy of Hell and there's no evidence of such a place existing, I remain unconvinced that I need the path to salvation you're trying to present.
Of course, I could be wrong. Present your evidence if you have it and if it's convincing, I'll change my mind.
A fire is something I can investigate rather quickly. The effort required in investigating is worth the horrible death that would result in ignoring the claim.
I have investigated.
And the news is good; there is no good reason to believe that a fire exists.
Awesome! I had no idea that was what Brandon looked like... totally threw me off. SO i think this video is fantastic in showing different rejections to the truth and how, despite the ability to show evidence for the fire, people don't want to see it. They say they want evidence but when given the chance to see it(smoke outside, people gathering, the fire behind the door) they would rather sit in their seats and burn. Good portrayal DJM!!! Make more I'm showing this to my Youth Group!
Personally, I think it's perfectly possible to engage intellectually with these theological issues, and ultimately reject them (i.e. not become a Christian). I've done just this. But just because I don't believe that Christianity is true, it doesn't mean that I think all negative responses to it, and arguments against it are equally valid.
However, even if the video hadn't shown us the clip of the fire at the start, and we weren't as viewers 110% sure that the fire was real and the guy running around the building wasn't just playing some prank, this doesn't actually make the reactions shown in the clip any more rational or sensible. And this is the point that I think the video was trying to make - not that atheists are idiots, but that there are SOME responses to these issues that just don't make sense.
In real life, we aren't given a 'sneak peak' of the truth before we're asked to make up our minds about these theological issues. In addition to this, it certainly is true that a mundane thing like a 'fire in the basement' is not in the same category as a supernatural event, or the existence of God.
I think the issue with the video is that we, the audience, know that the fire in the basement is real and genuine right from the start. The viewer is of course in the know, and can judge the actions of the characters accordingly.
We all know that God exists and about his power and authority over us. We are given this 'sneak peak' in our human nature and in all nature around us. I agree that it is possible to then engage this and reject this, but that's what it is: a rejection of what we already know.
Why did you delete the angry atheists? What I offer you'd do next time is collect all of the naughty objections, edit them, and put them on your website. And answer them.
Frankly, I'd rather you'd just leave them on, but I understand that the core audience here might not be too thrilled with words like #$*& and *@!#.
The ending with that woman is creepy, because it's very similar to actual 9/11 testimonies. People were arguing whether to go up or down. Some said that up is more logical because choppers are obviously gonna come at some point and get them. Others ran down. Not that I'm saying there was any way back then to know what's the right thing to do.
Getting out of there based on what this guy is saying, even if there is a 50% chance he's BSing, is Pascal's Wager. But it's not faith. It's faith if you believe his words 100%. So... in this analogy you can be a nonbeliever, follow while not believing, and still get saved.
We need to leave now, just drink this kool-aid lace with arsenic.
