This machine is pointless. This is no more perpetual motion than a ceiling fan is. The only thing that keeps the ball spinning is the electric current. Perpetual motion means once set in motion, it will stay in motion indefinitely without an external power source. This clearly requires an external power source.
If only the rotating ball could somehow recharge the batteries...it would be like the automaton who does a little dance then uses a key to wind herself up.
Conservation of energy only applies to a closed system so any device that gains energy from a system outside itself cannot break the laws of conservation.
When I saw the Finsrud Perpetual Motion Machine this was exactly my guess also.
People who say that one could just use a permanent magnet... this does not work as the electromagnet can turn off thus allowing that ball to roll away unimpeded. With a permanent magnet it would tug back on the ball and achieve nothing.
I'm convinced that your explanation is right. The picture in Finsrud's website showing the underside of a cylindrical magnet shows that it's an electromagnet, such as you can buy from any distributor. The sharp bobbing as the ball passes underneath shows that the magnet is switching off. The pendulums are clearly just moving as the ball depresses the levers on the track and the U-shaped magnets are just for show. The battery must be under the central dome or inside the pillar.
yh its a cool machine, but can it actually function as a real Perpetual Motion machine and allow you to get energy out without having to put energy in, or atleast get more energy out than you put in?
To say that this is a perpetual machine, it is a kind of misleading. But you can certainly say that this machine provides perpetual motion in concept. A true perpetual machine cannot be combined with the use of batteries, not even rechargeable batteries that can last for a life time.
@aj0017vlogs Think of permanent magnets just like springs if you use two that repel each other. Pushing them together is just like compressing a spring. You are adding the energy by pushing them together and once they have pushed apart, they have lost all the energy you added to them. Once you push them all the way together, you can't add any more energy. That is basically the only way you can use permanent magnets to store energy. The are not "batteries" like some people imagine them to be.
@roro879 Actually he makes almost no claims at all about it! That's the most fascinating thing about the Finsrud machine: he just sits back and lets other people go wild with their speculations about how it works. I must say that my suggestion is only that: an educated guess based on recognizing that the cylindrical magnets are in fact electromagnets (whether or not they are actually used as such). Strictly speaking it isn't proof that Finsrud's machine works that way, but the ods are good.

By that I mean; It is meant to inspire scientists to think in new ways, because modern science has stated that a perpetuum mobile is impossible. so they don`t even try to make these machines(at least back in the 80s). I personally don`t think it is a clever joke. because he could have done that so much easier. he also willingly explains about the process and workings of the machine in a video series here.
the finsrud machine is pure mechanics absolutely no batteries so no real comparison here.it was demonstrated to allow people to come and see it and see for themselves
@theufohunter123 Absolutely correct. It's just an electric motor. No energy is being re-captured. The title should have been clearer as was to question perpetual motion of this type.
@swartskaap777 No, but the momentum of the ball helps minimizes the energy the battery has to use to keep the ball moving. Basically the battery has to match at least the energy lost to friction, plus energy lost to sound, plus energy lost to heat in the resistance of the wires. You reduce friction and noise by making it more rigid and smooth. More winds of wire on the magnet->stronger magnet at same current, but for same size you need thinner wire->more resistance->more heat->more loss.
is this guy stupid or what? he should have used permanent magnets.. this actually needs energy.. why with electro magnets man?? i know you are trying 2 prove a point but you really should have used permanents..
NO WAY!!!!!! that totally works! you should find a way to harness the power from that to create electricity! Oh wait you cant because if you do the oil companies will pay the government to kill you. Im serious it happens all the time. people need to open their eyes.
@theufohunter123 You're an idiot... permanent magnets want to destroy themselves and will do over time and so it's not an infinite energy source. Think before you type please...
Thats a holy stupidness... You use an energy to move that fcukin metall ball... Where is the sense? Make it reverse, moving ball doing the energy, and then it will make sense and it would be geniously. There are thousands of physical shit that makes no sense ever, just shows some physical rules. Man, get serious and stop playing with that Nuton things, make something really clever and useful. I am talking not personally to author, just to all that people who uses energy to make... ball to move?
if you put multiple marbles on it this impressive low-budget Finsrud machine could be sold as a child's(very young) amusement toy. You would just plug it in... and wahlah! Instant two minute amusement!
Finsruds device is genuine and not fake, but what does that mean to wannabe debunkers as this guy. Maybe everything else in your pathetic lifes are fake, but this isnt.
@theufohunter123 would it not be perpetual motion if he found a way to harness the energy coming off of the ball and use that to power the magnets or atleast recharge the battery
Just like how this is NOT perpetual motion... this is NOT a zero budget model just because you spent the money for the components before you decided to build this. Think about it.
I think your exaclty right. I was sceptical of his device after seeing it. I think what he done is just art as he is an artist. and all the tings on it make it confusing which puts us in a suggestable state and he points out what he wants us to believe. I think one the big hidden secret in his machine is the big ple device in the middle which holds it all up. We cant actually see whats in there. and as scientests we must first see the hidden parts before we can make any real conclusioons
@theufohunter123 BTW, even if permanent magnets were used as low friction bearings, it would still not be a perpetual motion machine. Some of the energy would still be converted unavoidably to heat and the machine would eventually run down. Permanent magnets are at best like mechanical springs--they don't produce any more energy than you put into them no matter how you arrange them. See response to guruuDev.
@theufohunter123 To all who frequenty comment that this is not a perpetual motion machine, that is the whole point. This was posted as a video response to a post that portrayed the Finsrud machine as a perpetual motion machine, even though Finsrud himself claimed the longest it ever ran was 14 days. This working model was based on some rather obvious clues as to how the Finsrud machine really works.
PS.: Finsrud's Sculpture is NOT a perpetuum mobile. It's just REALLY well balanced so it runs for weeks until the ball has contaminated the track so friction is too high to run further. That's why Finsrud has to clean the track now and then. So it is NOT PM.
the plans for the real one is out there. maybe naysayers should build it instead of just being asses about it. obviously its breaking laws of thermodynamics but who's to say more laws wont be broken eventually?
Inventors are the reason we have what we have today. everyone should just leave them alone.
without inventors we would be in caves still. from the first arrowhead to super computers. EVERYTHING had to be invented. and these are people that make it possible
@jemmani22 .. IF... ( Big freaking IF) the laws of Thermodynamics are broken it will not be with a hand full of magnets and some swinging rods... But keep trying for it.... Had a fellow just get red face mad at me when I tried to explain how his plan to take some old electric motors and some car generators .. add the right pulleys so the generators spin fast and they will run the motor and he can use the electricity to light his house.... will not work... Q
@Quantummist ".. IF... ( Big freaking IF) the laws of Thermodynamics are broken it will not be with a hand full of magnets and some swinging rods..."
None of our celestial bodies are in static equilibrium; there are Coriolis, Mach, and tidal/proxy/pseýdo fortiæ everywhere. Thus a magnètic or other sýstem isn't within a conservative field:
@newmanbloke Yep, I agree. Actually I've worked out a way to do this without any visible magnets at all--just a circular track and a ball, so I might develop that as an executive toy!
"...it's not perpetual motion since you have to supply power to make it work..." That's the whole point of this demonstration, folks! The same goes for Finsrud's machine. Like I"ve explained several times now in detail, most of Finsrud's machine is misdirection: The pendulums, the u-shaped magnets, and most of the form have nothing to do with how it really works. The source of electricity is hidden, but how it works is quite obvious when you know what to look for. Read the earlier posts!
@Catspincushion777 Finsrud's machine converts magnetism into motion with no batteries involved. That is what makes it special. Hooking up batteries defeats the entire purpose of the thing.
@michaelspire Actually you can use two static magnets like a watch spring. You point the same poles towards each other so they repel, then use a mechanism to force them together. Then you let the repelling force push them away from each other slowly, using a clock mechanism to do so at a slow regular rate. However, just like a spring, you only get as much energy out as you put into in by "winding in up" so it will run down. Static fields like magnets always have this limitation.
@Catspincushion777 check this video and see what I'm talking about: watch?v=Rl0WPcE_yOM In my opinion, this strategy can be implemented in a circle to maintain continual motion.
Free energy can change the world! But there are very powerfull forces that want to supress the technology,Find a motor that needs no fuel or input at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Be the revolution!
The problem with this is the second you try to move anything other than the ball it needs more power. If you get that sorted you'll be the richest man on the planet.
the mere fact that this device uses batteries to power the magnets suggests to me that this is not perpetual motion as without this set of batteries this device will not work. the Finsrud machine uses magnets and balance so once put in motion is self sustaining. the only catalyst needed is the initial placement of the ball and its 1st push. after that it keeps on in motion. using a power source i.e. a battery does not qualify this as perpetual in my opinion.
My theory is that Finsrud's machine is a trick or fake whichever you prefer. Driven by actuating the pendulums by electromagnets in the pendulums. Requires great timing and equalness between the pendulums but should be doable to get tolerances low enough and timing correct to get it going forever - that is as long as it's supplied with power (and the electronic cirquitry works;)
@HifiCentret I mean of course electromagnets in the base plate. The pendulums may or may not have magnets at the tip depending on the driving circuit.
The whole point of Finsrud - if it's not a hoax - is that he's using conventional magnets that have their own internal standing current and not electromagnets. The trick is to get more tug as the ball approaches the magnet than pull as it leaves. That's where the pendulum would come in - powered by the ball which is powered by the magnet...somehow leaving a surplus.
@guruuDev There is no such thing as an "internal standing current" in a static magnet. In a way it can be used like a mechanical spring, but like such a spring it takes more energy to "wind it up" than you will get out of it since some of the energy gets wasted as heat, and some gets disipated through mechanical vigrations (sound). The cylindrical magnets, however, are clearly electromagnets as revealed by the closeup picture of one of them on Finsrud's web site gallery.
@Catspincushion777 the Finsrud machine is permanently housed in a respected museum in an encased glass closure and has not stopped moving for more then 10 years now. The inventor gets no monetary compensation so there would be no motive for it to be an elaborate hoax.
@Catspincushion777 "There is no such thing as an "internal standing current" in a static magnet."
Yes there is, says Lorentz. Take magnètic fortia between free elèctròns and nucleus over orbital girth and magnètic field. Or says Maxwell, take magnètic moment over orbital swath.
A perpetual motion machine is something that does NOT need outside energy, and using a batteries is outside energy. So this cannot be a perpetual motion machine, also it's nothing like Finsrud's machine.
@JohnDowl This logic is like saying the hubcaps are critical to the function of a car. The pendula are misdirection, just like in any good sleight of hand.
No they're not a misdirection. If you paid attention you would have noticed that the pendula have a trigger attached. This trigger sets the pendula into motion. The trigger is activated whenever the steel sphere rolls over it. The sculpture is so well balanced that it uses only one trigger every round.
The pendula are essential as they pull the magnet away from the steel sphere so it lowers the effect of retraction.
Actually on Finrud's Machine there's an interaction between gravity (the weight of the ball) and magnetic force (atraction of the mettalic ball) that induces a surplus kick on ball every little falling-rising 3 cycles per turn. As simple as that. That's too much for you, isnt it? don't tell me you have done this to disprove Finrud's work, that would be a killing joke!!!!!!
@JohnDowl If you pay attention to the direction of the ball's travel, it's pretty obvious the ball is pushing the wires that move the pendula, not the other way around. The wires can't pull the ball! That's why the pendula are a distraction from the real working parts--beautiful distractions.
Man, that is EXACTLY what I said! The BALL ist pushing the WIRE that is pushing the PENDULA. But the MAGNET PULLS THE BALL and the MAGNET is retracted by motion of the PENDULA. They are NOT a distraction. Geez....
@Catspincushion777 I have to side with JohnDowl on this one. I appreciate you "debunking" Finsrud but I must ask have you ever seen the machine in real life? I sure haven't, but I would like to replicate what he made. My opinoin, go see Finsrud's machine and determine if their is a power source or not.
@Rescueswimmer85 First of all, the three overhead cylindrical magnets are clearly electromagnets. These magnets need current to develop a magnetic field. (You can see them bob as they turn on as the ball passes by.) That is pretty clear evidence that there is a hidden source of electricity. It's not absolute proof, but it is good evidence.
There isn't any lurching in the ball's motion whatsoever with the finsrud mechanism. Did something specific enlighten you to think Finsrud is lying about his creation? It does come to a standstill because of dust on the track and metal on metal wear so it has a maintenance schedule, from what I've gathered that is.
I think you have nailed this one! You have to put energy in to keep it running or it will not work, as you have demonstrated. Thus rendering this device nothing more than an elaborate form of an electric motor. Nothing perpetual about it. Perhaps it could be renamed the "FINSFRAUD" perpetual motion machine. Good job.
@ShadyMan01 Thanks. I wouldn't go so far as to call Finsrud a fraud, though. I would say "prankster" is a much more appropriate classification. He has not asked for any funding, has not persued a patent, and calls his device a sculpture. I think the rest is harmless misdirection of the along the lines of an illusionist.
There is a simple way to test whether or not the cylindrical magnets of the Finsrud machine are electromagnets or not. Place a Hall effect sensor near each magnet--it does not even have to touch anything. If the magnetic field suddently increases at the same time the ball first contacts the wire connected to the pendulum, which is significantly before the ball reaches the magnet, then it is an electromagnet, turned on by the contact of the ball with the pendulum wire and the rail.
@Catspincushion777 yes, i agree with your point of view of those things and sadly inventions don't seem to be so breakthrough stuff, but in fact they so are something brilliant. Years of experiments..would dare to say centuries on different levels.
Btw, forgot to mention; nice nailing that prank :D
BTW, you don't need wires to deliver power to the electromagnets, just any metal pathway to conduct current. You just have to be clever enough to control where the current flows by clever placement of insulating materials.
Part 2: What electromagnet? In the photo described in part one, you can clearly see the underside of the cylindrical magnet. You can plainly see a dark core, a lighter ring around the core, and the darker outer ring of the magnet's shell. The lighter ring is the epoxy that protects the coil of the electromagnet. This is just like the EM-R1 electomagnet made by Magnetool (and similar manufacturers), priced about $90 each at today's prices.
Part 1: Where did I see an electromagnet, and what gave it away. In Finsrud's own photogallery of the "Perpetuum Mobile Skulptur" there is one photo that shows a close-up of one overhead cylindrical magnet, one of the horse-shoe magnets, and the wire connected to one of the pendula that the ball hits to keep the pendulum swinging. The underside of the cylindrical magnet is clearly visible. See post "Part 2" for why this is telling.
@overunitydotcom How do you know that? I can show that the cylindrical magnets over the rail are electromagnets--they require electricity to work. Hence my proposal (not proof) of how it really works. Note that Finsrud has not applied for patents or any contribution from any investor, financial or otherwise. That's a pretty good indicator that he is playing a very clever--and I would say, beautifully executed and harmless joke.
@overunitydotcom Perhaps your friend did not know what to look for. I'll add two posts to describe where to look in Finsrud's own gallery to see the electromagnet.
Believing in a theory does not make it true. It has to be tested! Most things we imagine turn out to be wrong or inaccurate when put to the test, so it is a dangerous thing to believe furvently in something you have not tested. Science and engineering are so difficult because they are all about sorting truth from fiction by actually putting tests into practice. That which really works adds to the theory, that which does not gets removed. Truth is WAY more difficult achieve than fiction.
The Finsrud machine has been sealed in a glass case for over a decade now. Wonder how you would change those batteries? I wonder how the planets stay in motion.
Re Tesla: I should make a distinction here. Tesla actually patented a "wireless telegraphy" system. However his theory of how it worked proved to be wrong. He thoroughly rejected the explaination of electromagnetic radiation first mathematically demonstrated by Maxwell, and experimentally demonstrated by Hertz. So Tesla never really understood radio. This may in part be why he did not successfully defend his patent against Marconi's competing patent.
@Kamagel007 It's not "stories made by victores", its over 150 years of science and engineering verified by practical application and experimentation, literally millions of times over. To me it's sad that Tesla's truly brilliant inventions--the alternating current generator and alternating current motor that truly revolutionished our lives--are overshadowed by science fiction versions of his biography.
Re Tesla: as brilliant as he was, he never really understood electromagnetic radiation (radio waves). He thought the earth's magnetic field was resonating, but actually radio waves propagate without needing anything to "resonate with". The Tesla coil is essentially a very innefficient radio transmitter. The earth's magnetic field is essentially static--there is no vibration to resonate to.
It's true that when the electromagnet turns on or off, it will induce a current in the rails. But the coupling is so innefficient that the induced current is very tiny. Nowhere near enough to influence the steel ball measureably.
collapsing magnetic flux of the electromagnetic will induce a magnetic inductance on the rail, that is giving a push to the ball. I think the Finrud machine was tune in Earth resonance frequency. Approach the aluminum rail with a neon bulb to prove my theory if it was wrong. Finrud machine is a variant of a Tesla coil.
I think you got it all wrong! My guest is the Finsrud Machine is not working on a battery like you proposed. I think it is working under Tesla Principle. Those U magnet you saw is interacting on the rail, and the collapsing magnetic current were induce to the pendullum below, which I think has primary coil winding, and induce a secondary winding of the body in mid section. Generating small HV to copper between the rail, when ball approaches and close the circuit, ball become electromagnet
Yes, the wires that protrude between the rails are direcly attached to the pendula, so the ball gives each pendulum a push each time it rolls over one of these wires. In addition (I believe) the wire is also the "commutator" that turns the electromagnets, when the steel ball contacts the wire and completes the circuit.
Nice work! I just saw the video of the original and had two ideas; The horseshoe magnets weren't actually magnets at all because the ball's motion is two steady near them, even allowing for those bits of wire; The pendulums were being moved by pulsed electro magnets in the base. But I couldn't spot anything to keep the ball moving. However, it had to be magnetism used in some way.
But you have cracked it! Do you think the Finsrud machine uses the ball to move the pendulums via the wires?
"...one uses magnets pushed out of the way..." Actually the u-shaped magnets on Finsrud's machine really don't do anything at all--except distract the viewer. The working magnets are the cylindrical electromagnets just above the rails, just like on my simplified version.
Of course it's not perpetual motion, but neither is the Finsrud machine. I'm just demonstrating the working parts--out in the open. The give-away is a view of the bottom of one of the cylindrical magnets in one of his close-up photos. You can see the dark outer ring--the shell--then a lighter ring--the epoxy that protects the coil--and a dark disk in the center which is the core of the electromagnet. I can even tell you where you can buy exactly the same kind of electromagnet and the price.
First of all, that's not perpetual motion since the batteries are being used. You could connect those batteries to a little motor and using the same amount of electricity you could make something roll around on a track, but that too would not be perpetual motion. Why don't you try "harnessing the power of the ball" to recharge the batteries. Good luck with that.
This is freaking amazing! This is basically the exact same machine, one uses magnets pushed out of the way, this one uses magnets turned on and turned off (pushed out of the way) Anyway, very very awesome, kudos.
Perpetual motion? Hardly. How could you harness the energy of that rotating ball?
And if you did, there probably is an extremely low amount of torque.
Sense the basic principle of perpetual motion is that the machine consumes less energy than it produces. And sense this machine obvilously cosumes more energy than it creates. Nice job though! ;-)
Actually I'm not, but Mr. Finsrud might be. He has never applied for a patent, nor has he ever solicited money to develop it. That is a big clue that he might be having a chuckle at the expense of the gullible--and even the very clever. Since he is not bilking any "investors", I think it's a pretty sure bet that he is being a very clever (and harmless) prankster. I've read all I can find about it and so far it's only speculations on how might work, but no proofs.
You must be joking: the Finsrud machine has been verified by dozens of scientists. I think in his site there is the whole history and you can also contact the guy personally.
the trick is that momentum of centrofugal motion body has it's particles slightly tampred.
Actually the paint can lid is not functioning as a magnet. It is only functioning as a mechanical rail and as an electical conductor. It would work the same even if the can lid were aluminum. The electromagnets are the only magnets that propel the ball. In fact I've figure out a more clever way to do this with a plastic rail, hidden sensors, and hidden electromagnets. All you would see is a steel ball rolling around a bare track (no wire contacts) and the stand that supports the rail.
The machine track vibrates due to a pendulum in the center that runs by means of a chaos array of magnets. The ball produces kinetic energy which is transferred back into the pendulum by the springs. This breaks the chaos array magnets occasional desire to stop the pendulum. The magnets rise up and down effectively turning the magnetic effect on and off similar to how your machine functions
I saw a 45 minute demonstration online with explanations of how it functions. Finsrud talks about occasionally having to clean the machine because aluminum builds up on the ball and halts the motion.
I think your video is great - its a very neat idea that shows how the finsrud machine works. The finsrud machine however has an aluminum track. Aluminum is not magnetic so there is no way that a battery could be used to induce motion. The ball would have no way to kill the power and the magnets would halt the forward progress.
This machine is pointless. This is no more perpetual motion than a ceiling fan is. The only thing that keeps the ball spinning is the electric current. Perpetual motion means once set in motion, it will stay in motion indefinitely without an external power source. This clearly requires an external power source.

Can a person use the ball rotation to reload the battery thus keeping the ball in motion till the battery wears out ? Very cool stuff Sir!!
swartskaap777 8 months ago
@swartskaap777 No, but the momentum of the ball helps minimizes the energy the battery has to use to keep the ball moving. Basically the battery has to match at least the energy lost to friction, plus energy lost to sound, plus energy lost to heat in the resistance of the wires. You reduce friction and noise by making it more rigid and smooth. More winds of wire on the magnet->stronger magnet at same current, but for same size you need thinner wire->more resistance->more heat->more loss.

Hooking up batteries defeats the entire purpose of the thing.
michaelspire 1 year ago
@michaelspire Actually you can use two static magnets like a watch spring. You point the same poles towards each other so they repel, then use a mechanism to force them together. Then you let the repelling force push them away from each other slowly, using a clock mechanism to do so at a slow regular rate. However, just like a spring, you only get as much energy out as you put into in by "winding in up" so it will run down. Static fields like magnets always have this limitation.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
@Catspincushion777 check this video and see what I'm talking about: watch?v=Rl0WPcE_yOM In my opinion, this strategy can be implemented in a circle to maintain continual motion.

the mere fact that this device uses batteries to power the magnets suggests to me that this is not perpetual motion as without this set of batteries this device will not work. the Finsrud machine uses magnets and balance so once put in motion is self sustaining. the only catalyst needed is the initial placement of the ball and its 1st push. after that it keeps on in motion. using a power source i.e. a battery does not qualify this as perpetual in my opinion.
thx1103n 1 year ago
My theory is that Finsrud's machine is a trick or fake whichever you prefer. Driven by actuating the pendulums by electromagnets in the pendulums. Requires great timing and equalness between the pendulums but should be doable to get tolerances low enough and timing correct to get it going forever - that is as long as it's supplied with power (and the electronic cirquitry works;)
HifiCentret 1 year ago
@HifiCentret I mean of course electromagnets in the base plate. The pendulums may or may not have magnets at the tip depending on the driving circuit.

The whole point of Finsrud - if it's not a hoax - is that he's using conventional magnets that have their own internal standing current and not electromagnets. The trick is to get more tug as the ball approaches the magnet than pull as it leaves. That's where the pendulum would come in - powered by the ball which is powered by the magnet...somehow leaving a surplus.
guruuDev 1 year ago
@guruuDev There is no such thing as an "internal standing current" in a static magnet. In a way it can be used like a mechanical spring, but like such a spring it takes more energy to "wind it up" than you will get out of it since some of the energy gets wasted as heat, and some gets disipated through mechanical vigrations (sound). The cylindrical magnets, however, are clearly electromagnets as revealed by the closeup picture of one of them on Finsrud's web site gallery.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago 6
@Catspincushion777 the Finsrud machine is permanently housed in a respected museum in an encased glass closure and has not stopped moving for more then 10 years now. The inventor gets no monetary compensation so there would be no motive for it to be an elaborate hoax.

@JohnDowl This logic is like saying the hubcaps are critical to the function of a car. The pendula are misdirection, just like in any good sleight of hand.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
@Catspincushion777
DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

@JohnDowl If you pay attention to the direction of the ball's travel, it's pretty obvious the ball is pushing the wires that move the pendula, not the other way around. The wires can't pull the ball! That's why the pendula are a distraction from the real working parts--beautiful distractions.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
@Catspincushion777
Man, that is EXACTLY what I said! The BALL ist pushing the WIRE that is pushing the PENDULA. But the MAGNET PULLS THE BALL and the MAGNET is retracted by motion of the PENDULA. They are NOT a distraction. Geez....
JohnDowl 1 year ago
@Catspincushion777 I have to side with JohnDowl on this one. I appreciate you "debunking" Finsrud but I must ask have you ever seen the machine in real life? I sure haven't, but I would like to replicate what he made. My opinoin, go see Finsrud's machine and determine if their is a power source or not.
Rescueswimmer85 1 year ago
@Rescueswimmer85 First of all, the three overhead cylindrical magnets are clearly electromagnets. These magnets need current to develop a magnetic field. (You can see them bob as they turn on as the ball passes by.) That is pretty clear evidence that there is a hidden source of electricity. It's not absolute proof, but it is good evidence.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
@Rescueswimmer85 The trick to a good magic trick is the part you don't see.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
There isn't any lurching in the ball's motion whatsoever with the finsrud mechanism. Did something specific enlighten you to think Finsrud is lying about his creation? It does come to a standstill because of dust on the track and metal on metal wear so it has a maintenance schedule, from what I've gathered that is.

I think you have nailed this one! You have to put energy in to keep it running or it will not work, as you have demonstrated. goose2goose2 1 year ago
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
@Catspincushion777 yes, i agree with your point of view of those things and sadly inventions don't seem to be so breakthrough stuff, but in fact they so are something brilliant. Years of experiments..would dare to say centuries on different levels.
Btw, forgot to mention; nice nailing that prank :D
Kamagel007 1 year ago
BTW, you don't need wires to deliver power to the electromagnets, just any metal pathway to conduct current. You just have to be clever enough to control where the current flows by clever placement of insulating materials.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
Part 2: What electromagnet? In the photo described in part one, you can clearly see the underside of the cylindrical magnet. You can plainly see a dark core, a lighter ring around the core, and the darker outer ring of the magnet's shell. The lighter ring is the epoxy that protects the coil of the electromagnet. This is just like the EM-R1 electomagnet made by Magnetool (and similar manufacturers), priced about $90 each at today's prices.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
Part 1: Where did I see an electromagnet, and what gave it away. In Finsrud's own photogallery of the "Perpetuum Mobile Skulptur" there is one photo that shows a close-up of one overhead cylindrical magnet, one of the horse-shoe magnets, and the wire connected to one of the pendula that the ball hits to keep the pendulum swinging. The underside of the cylindrical magnet is clearly visible. See post "Part 2" for why this is telling.

Catspincushion777 1 year ago
@Catspincushion777 maybe, but he was more into wireless energy transfer. Those are stories made by "victors"
Kamagel007 1 year ago
@Kamagel007 It's not "stories made by victores", its over 150 years of science and engineering verified by practical application and experimentation, literally millions of times over. To me it's sad that Tesla's truly brilliant inventions--the alternating current generator and alternating current motor that truly revolutionished our lives--are overshadowed by science fiction versions of his biography.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
Re Tesla: as brilliant as he was, he never really understood electromagnetic radiation (radio waves). He thought the earth's magnetic field was resonating, but actually radio waves propagate without needing anything to "resonate with". The Tesla coil is essentially a very innefficient radio transmitter. The earth's magnetic field is essentially static--there is no vibration to resonate to.

It's true that when the electromagnet turns on or off, it will induce a current in the rails. But the coupling is so innefficient that the induced current is very tiny. Nowhere near enough to influence the steel ball measureably.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
collapsing magnetic flux of the electromagnetic will induce a magnetic inductance on the rail, that is giving a push to the ball. I think the Finrud machine was tune in Earth resonance frequency. Approach the aluminum rail with a neon bulb to prove my theory if it was wrong. Finrud machine is a variant of a Tesla coil.
jexphe2k 1 year ago
@jexphe2k LOLWAT
Rnexen 1 year ago
I think you got it all wrong! My guest is the Finsrud Machine is not working on a battery like you proposed. I think it is working under Tesla Principle. Those U magnet you saw is interacting on the rail, and the collapsing magnetic current were induce to the pendullum below, which I think has primary coil winding, and induce a secondary winding of the body in mid section. Generating small HV to copper between the rail, when ball approaches and close the circuit, ball become electromagnet
jexphe2k 1 year ago
Yes, the wires that protrude between the rails are direcly attached to the pendula, so the ball gives each pendulum a push each time it rolls over one of these wires. In addition (I believe) the wire is also the "commutator" that turns the electromagnets, when the steel ball contacts the wire and completes the circuit.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
Do you think the Finsrud machine uses the ball to move the pendulums via the wires?
chrisofnottingham 1 year ago
Nice Idea. It would be an interesting conversation piece.
Thanks for the Vid
valveman12 1 year ago
"...one uses magnets pushed out of the way..." Actually the u-shaped magnets on Finsrud's machine really don't do anything at all--except distract the viewer. The working magnets are the cylindrical electromagnets just above the rails, just like on my simplified version.
Catspincushion777 1 year ago
Of course it's not perpetual motion, but neither is the Finsrud machine. I'm just demonstrating the working parts--out in the open. The give-away is a view of the bottom of one of the cylindrical magnets in one of his close-up photos. You can see the dark outer ring--the shell--then a lighter ring--the epoxy that protects the coil--and a dark disk in the center which is the core of the electromagnet. I can even tell you where you can buy exactly the same kind of electromagnet and the price.
Catspincushion777 2 years ago
First of all, that's not perpetual motion since the batteries are being used. You could connect those batteries to a little motor and using the same amount of electricity you could make something roll around on a track, but that too would not be perpetual motion. Why don't you try "harnessing the power of the ball" to recharge the batteries. Good luck with that.
MrWadlo 2 years ago

"...how you keep it separated from the paint can lid..."
I just made sure at least 1/4 inch of insulation extended beyond the hole and then bent the wire so that it did not touch the sides of the groove.

"...does it speed up?..."
If I used a variable power supply, yes, I could control the speed.

"Is that blood?..."
Nope. Just red paint. I typically draw blood from myself accidentally on these projects, but not this time!

"You must be joking..."

IS THAT BLOOD ON THE RIGHT!!!?!

You must be joking: the Finsrud machine has been verified by dozens of scientists. I think in his site there is the whole history and you can also contact the guy personally.
the trick is that momentum of centrofugal motion body has it's particles slightly tampred.

I would love to see a close up video of that insulated wire and how you keep it separated from the paint can lid.

Thats excellent. I like it very much.

instead of using 2 batteries, use 2 potatoes!
