Not just 39, but The Prophet's Song, which, if you haven't read your Bible, you won't understand. But If you haven't read your Bible, you are in trouble.
'39, I love musicians that tell a story in a song, but include every little detail like in a book, another song I think is very genius is Iron Man, if you know what the lyrics mean, you probably know why
"Scientific space folk!" I love all the funny things Roger says. "It's a song and it's about a car. And someone who really likes it." Oh Roger, you're still so cute!
Brian I just want to let you know that '39 is probably my all time favorite Queen song. It brings back so much and it reminds me of my childhood. So your song most definetly "hooked into my life in a very wonderful way"
This series is FRIGGIN AMAZING! Thank you for posting it. I am learning things about Queen music, songs I have been listening to for 20 years, that I never knew before. And so great to see their commentary today, on what they were doing "back then".
This is a very good documentary video - I mean the whole "Queen: A Night At The Opera" documentary. John Deacon is a genius. The best bass player EVER. Besides that, I think that "You're My Best Friend" is a very underrated song, although it is matchless. The songs he wrote are all hits. I understand why he doesn't want to play anymore with Queen - I believe he understood it very well that Queen ain't Queen anymore without Freddie.
Only Queen (and more specifically Brian) could come up with a little acoustic ditty in which the protagonist suffers the relativistic effects. I just love how Brian starts discussing these effects as though they're the most natural and obvious things in the world.
all these years, i thought this was a song about some guy back in the old days that ive never heard about, an he was at sea, or somthing ?,,i never was sure,,lo,, totally changed my look on this song..brilliant stuff..
When you think about it, 39 is such a sad hearbreaking song.

John played some of the best bass lines that are on any records, they are also pretty easy to play so any bassist could learn them.

I agree with him about "Long away". That should have been a hit. Not sure about 39 but they are both great songs.

Of course a man who studied Astronomy at the graduate level would write a song like that.
I appreciate the song more now because I also thought it was about 1939 and the beginning of WW2 in Europe.
