My 11-year-old daughter recently discovered Lauryn Hill on my iPod. After listening to it thru a couple of times, she asked, "How come you don't have more of her songs?"
My favorite sentence: When your love for their work overrides your awareness of their humanity, that's not love anymore. That' just entitlement." Jay Smooth and his way with words!
Well put. Lauryn is the antithesis of greed and pretentiousness and sees the value in living life for yourself, family and children and not your record producer. True art is not a "job".
I think many of Lauryn Hill's fans are worried about her mental health. They may also disapprove of her (or anyone else) having so many children by a man who isn't faithful & won't commit. BTW-I have never liked any of her music.
Thank you. Even as just a small-time singer, I've felt that pressure to be a sort of music dispensary. It also happens in art and writing as well. I hope Lauryn is happy. Kate Bush also took heaps of time out to herself. I think the best way to be is to resepct the artist's choices and take what you can get gladly.
not super long ago there was an article in the new yorker on the author of the game of thrones series that illustrated the entitled fan syndrome you are talking about. you might find it interesting.
Love this video, everything that was said was true. I grew up listening to Ms. Hill because my older sister is a huge fan. When all the media attention was on her I was unaware of it since I was little. But now that I'm a grown adult, and still dont care about what the media says about her, I still listen to her. This past year I've seen her perform three times. The first time was at Coachella 2011, and yes she did come on late, was it her fault? No, it's was Cee lo Greens fault for arriving to
I didn't realize until a recently that Lauryn had to many kids. I read it on wikipedia. That's when he absence really started to make sense. As much as I love Lauryn as an artist, and as much as I'd like to hear some new material from her, it's far more important that she has peace in her life. If we never get another album from Lauryn, I'm just thankful for what she's already contributed to music.
@limeginger what if raising and expanding her family brings her miss joy than music for the masses? Who are we to demand another album? I love her music, but she's a person with hopes drama and aspirations. Have you considered that selling more albums and having herself and the family thrust in the media spotlight (even more than they already are) might NOT be something she wants?
yo. im just a fan who wanted to put in a little request. i was just wanting to know. what do you think about this new horror character called Slender Man???
well...ok. Well said/hard to hear. When I heard she was having another baby I didn't think "oh, she should be making another album." But it is hard to hear because you present your point compellingly and pointedly (as always), and probably accurately characterize some of the people saying more tracks/fewer babies. BUT...is it ok to be frustrated by an artist being blocked and not tapping into their gifts--for their sake? [not ours] Like we do *wish* shaking would snap her back to her artistry?
@limeginger I like your response. However, how do we not know that is exactly what she is doing? She might be writing, singing, etc. She could just be doing it for her family and friends. I have a friend who is extremely talented in singing, poetry, writing, etc. However, she has no plans of ever trying to go famous. She enjoys her life, raising her children, and providing her family and friends with her talent.
Sooooo to every ANGRY person commenting on this video, thinking they "own" Lauryn Hill and are ANGRY that she decided to MAKE HER OWN CHOICE with HER LIFE, all I have to tell you all is this.................Soooo you mad? *drops mic, shrugs, walks away*
this video was good. i was wondering when the a vending machine would come into play and then all of a sudden lauryn hill was being shook like a vending machine. was she being shook because they were stealing or did she not perform.
You are absolutely RIGHT but don't sugarcoat it, their attitude is just Disrespectful. If she made albums instead of babies but they didn't like the music they would have stamped her "Wack" and turned on her just the same way. Love is unconditional, her contribution Undeniable. She hasn't done anything to anyone but LIVE HER LIFE...Unapologetically.THATS REAL ART!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sir, you're an idiot. Lauryn Hill was off having those babies off of OUR MONEY which we paid for her to continue her career. We've been robbed. I love Lauryn Hill but she's an idiot who deserves no defense from anyone, and so are you. {{-_-}}
@Suitsnappy You paid for the music you got. Therefore you should be happy listen to the music she has already made. I can see if you paid for an album by lauryn that you didn't receive..but that's not the case. Also it's her music and her talent..which means she give it or take it away however she wants.. it is hers.
A fan wrote to the author Neil Gaiman a few years ago, complaining that George R. R. Martin hadn't finished the "Song of Ice & Fire" series, but was working on other projects.
Gaiman gently pointed out that writers and performers sometimes produce something, and then don't produce more work for a while, or don't produce more of the particular work/series/whatever on a set schedule. Which eventually boiled down to "George R. R. Martin is not your bitch."
People would have more of a leg to stand on if everyone hadn't hated her Unplugged. Lauren kept it real, and apparently that was too real for everyone. She's not going back to fake.
I agree with you about this in relation to music and artistry in general, but in relation to literature... when an author says "this is book 1 of a 7 part series" then I expect those seven books to be written within a decade. They signed up for that pressure when they said "oh! my 1st book was a #1 best-seller, so I'm going to write six more!" To say they're not obligated to finish their work is to say they have a right to be lazy, I don't know of any job where employees are paid to not work.
@nerdwerds I agree with you somewhat. But let's say your friend promises to do a small favor for you (whose value is equivalent to the entertainment value of a book series), and then something comes up and they don't do it. If they apologize and have a good reason (because there are reasons other than laziness), you might be annoyed with them, but you wouldn't continue thinking that person owes you. It seems no worse an infraction than a broken promise from a complete stranger. Shitty, but nbd.
@HelterMcSkelter The analogy doesnt really hold water because doing a favor isnt a job. Let's say I hired my friend to paint my house and he only finished part of it then told me he would get around to painting the rest of it once he felt inspired, or he had some "You're not my boss, you can't force me to paint" excuse, I would eventually look for another painter to finish the house. The same could be said about music or books. If you wait long enough, your interest will move to another artist.
@nerdwerds Well fair enough - but I would argue that printing book 1 of a series and implicitly promising 6 more is different from an agreement to paint a house because it's not a direct exchange of payment for service. Sure, an author has an obligation to his/her publisher (to whom a verbal agreement to accept payment for future books constitutes a binding contract), but not to buyers of the book. Certainly you wouldn't say that authors are in the employment of each of their individual readers.
@HelterMcSkelter No, I think I would say that authors are in their readers' employ. If George R.R. Martin had advertised his first book as "Part 1 of a 7 part series that will take me more than 17 years to finish" then nobody would have bought the first book, and he knows that. In that sense, he works for everybody who bought the first book. Keep in mind, he has a contract with his publisher so he has already been paid with advances! I could write more elsewhere - YT's commenting system sucks.
@nerdwerds Well I disagree, but it's an interesting comparison anyway. It is nice to express a conflicting opinion without having someone freak out on Youtube for once.
@HelterMcSkelter lol, agreed! This debate is actually one I've been having with members of my gaming group for the last few weeks, two of us think authors are employed by the people who buy their books and two of us agree with Gaiman's assessment that authors are not employed and thus do not 'owe' work, and another is on the fence. I'm strictly of the opinion that if an author commits to a series, they had better be prepared to write that series in a timely manner. I've used Terry Pratchet as...
@HelterMcSkelter ...comparison, because Pratchett doesn't have a 'schedule' or a set series, yet he has been writing Discworld novels for about two decades now, and they come out about once a year on average, yet his writing is always witty, intelligent and (most importantly) canonical to all of his previous Discworld novels. Pratchett is the high bar of quality and timeliness by which I judge all other authors.
I'm a white middle class young girl abd yet illdoc speaks to me and helps me understand themes in rap and hip hop better than any one else please keep making these videos!
I watch your channel because you are insightful and entertaining. Honestly my knowledge of music and pop culture would if you added $4 buy you a coffee at Starbucks. That said, I look at anyone having that many kids and see a tremendous burden on the environment... especially westerners whose kids are the biggest drain in the world. I could give a rats ass about her next album, but seriously enough is enough.
@nickgorton Fortunately, her kids are well behaved, well looked after and well educated. They're not in the papers for any foolishness. She's obviously a great mother and should have as many kids as she damn well pleases without comments from some chauvinistic pig.
Um...I think it's selfish in this time of global warming and the strain from over population on the earth's LIMITED resources that there are folks out there popping out babies like they Adam and Eve chilling in the Garden of Eden. I think that's selfish. Yep. Straight selfish and irresponsible. I'm happy with what she's already done. Good music didn't begin and won't end with Lauryn Hill. Thanks for the great vid!
@iamsillywarm Selfish? How is it selfish for two people that love each other to give an opportunity of life to someone, for someone to witness the world all it's goods and bad's and what if one of these popped out babies figures out how to make the world a better place. If anyone is SELFISH it's you for just ignorantly stating your opinion and not thinking ahead!
@zapmanclark It's selfish because it consumes resources that we don't have, thereby causing a greater debt of suffering to both the child and to people who were already here. You can "give the opportunity of life" to someone (two someones, in fact) without being a part of the overpopulation problem.
It is not a birthright to have six kids. If all of us did, we'd be screwed as a species. I think that was his point.
@zapmanclark But I am thinking ahead.I'm thinking ahead to a time when the world is so overpopulated that we will be fighting wars over water and there will be massive die offs from famine and disease percipitated by over population. Do you stay current with the looming draught issues in the southwest that will threaten desert communities like LA, Vegas, Pheonix and Texas? I'm all about love but adding a whole group of extra people to the already strained planet is not thinking ahead.
I'm concerned more about her mental health. I don't give a shit about another album . Especially with her attitude lol She would probably act like shes the second coming.
Oops! and Jay I understand what youre saying, but when an artist that hasnt dropped an album in ten years announces he or she is releasing one and then she or he dont, for whatever reason, they should at least apologise to the fans, not because theyre simply not doing it but because theyve said they will soon. Her attitude is disappointing, and disrespectful to the fans, im sorry, this is not miseducated but uneducated, she doesnt own us loyalty, but yes, she should have more respect for us...
@souljah309 Umm, she didn't announce that she was making an album. She announced that she was going on tour and that she was ready to express herself again. So the uneducated one is you, pumpkin!
@Moxyville Yeh, youre right: she didnt give us any exact release date. But when someone, that hasnt release for 12 years, says shes been working on new music and is getting closer to a new album, I understand that the album could be ready 'anytime soon'. Pras made it much worse when he said the album was due in summer. But Pras is not Lauryn, and im uneducated about the worlds strange sense of logic and understanding; in Lauryns universe all this could easily mean 'soon', by 2020 or 2035...
Last night I had a dream about D'Angelo giving birth too. It seems like I also have deep issues going on... it was a funny dream though, lol, way better than reality... at least im still laughing in my dreams, cause real life is not funny at all to me. Yeah, I know I need psychological attention but I cant afford it, maybe in my dreams I could get me some help... maybe there I could ask L Boogie to adopt me and have her singing to me everyday to save my soul... i just hope i dont get insomnia...
6 kids??! The world is WAY too overpopulated as it is. If you ask me, anyone who has 6 kids is greedy and has no respect for the rest of the world or the future of humanity... She is "Killing THE WORLD softly"...........
@ealvarezz10 hatred and bigotry are weapons against people, not the world... over population = higher demand for space and resources, the world simply does not have an endless supply of that..... china has the right idea, a one kid maximum! Please, I only accept intelligent responses
@y2kalonn There is no such thing as overpop. on Earth. The truth is that resources are not adequately disbursed to the people. A lot of the Earth resources are wasted on non-nonsensical material possessions. Look up the facts. Deep down do you truly believe that the gov. has the right to regulate how many children you have? What if you are the last of your generation. Once you die your family's history will be gone. It's the same thing as saying poor people shouldn't have children.
I see everybody thinks they know a reason why Lauren doesn't amek another album. Wake up people. Fact of the matter is you DON'T. It's her choice if she's gonna continue making music or not, whatever the reason.
I'm an Outkast fan and I wish they would release another album. Ever since Idlewild there's been no new album but you don't see me bitching about it.
Yes there are plenty of selfish fans to go around. Jay Smooth can you comment of the appearance of Rep. Gifford to cast a vote for cut aid to disabled and elderly.
The only reason Lauryn is having these kids is that she is a woman who is really afraid to get back into the marketplace. She thinks that as long as she lives off of her first album, she is immune to failure.
there is much truth in what you're saying... and on another completely unrelated note... jay needs to stop extracting teeth and start extracting ideas for more videos
Reminds me of something she said in the past: "Oftentimes, the machine can overlook the need to take care of the people who produce the sounds that have a lot to do with the health... of society... And it's important that people be given the time that they need to go through, to grow, so that the consciousness level of the general public is properly affected." - Lauryn Hill
true, but I think people or more mad about lauren on her 6th kid, which is a whole damn lot for anybody, especially for somebody who is mental unstable like lauren. I honestly can't imagine Lauren having a huge vault of money now a days and from what I know from Laurens personality, it seem more like she has a bunch of kids out of irresponsibility rather that wanting to be like the cosby's. So from that stand point she is better off turning her craziness into great music like before, imo.
@killahkazi Firstly, no one has received any document from a psychiatrist stating that lauren is mentally unstable, that is all hearsay and I doubt that anything that comes from "the music industry" is credible these days. She's just one of the few artists we have who decided not to become 1 of the many bubble-pop clones or "artists" we have today. And secondly, I doubt you know Ms. Hill personally so anything you claim to know about her personality/motive behind her actions is unjustified!
@greenclover39 have you SEEN Lauren Hill READ anything about Lauren Hill in the recent years? It doesn't take a doctor or any "official documents" to figure out that she has some Serious issues going on.
@greenclover39 My whole point is that no one knows for sure. And it's just extremely rude and disrespectful to someone such as Lauryn Hills to perpetuate such ugly gossip. That's all it is, gossip!
we are hiring a lot more international workers; thus being less competitive in our math and sciences. The question is how do steer more urban youth into these types of fields while still being relevant to their personal interest.
Couldn't agree more, you always be droppin knowledge on these young bucks. I've had a recent discussion with my peer about the decline of math and science in the U.S. and the increase in entertainment art. It is sort of ironic that the newer generation is more tech savvy; however, always seem very disinterested in going into fields that help produce more innovative thinkers. As a result, we are hiring a lot more international workers; thus being less competitive in our math and sciences. Th

I disagree. Lauryn is *exactly* like a vending machine and, like all vending machines, she loves to be shaken. She also likes it when you feed her coins. Plus, she's good at keeping snack foods cool. Coincidence? I think not! What more evidence do you need? The truth is out there, man. It's out there.
yeah, great video and all, once again youve shown an intelligent and distant perspective that still has passion, but in regards to lauryns situation, lauryn did treat her fans like shit recently with the whole non-tour thing. does she owe the fans anything? no, except when they pay for something and she doesnt deliver. its also pretty clear that l-boogie has kinda gone nuts, and the mainstream hype from her first album got to her and she thinks shes better than she is. great singer, mediocre mc.
If she wants our money she does actually owe us something. Why is that a hard concept to grasp? She IS still, to this day, performing for her songs for our money (showing up hours late to every single concert by the way, how's that for entitlement?), that is how she makes a living. Rolling eyes at this video.
I can definitely respect the fact that Lauryn is taking time to be a good mother raising her family. If she never makes another album, I will just enjoy the music she has made. (It's classic) However, I do wonder about her partner and whether or not she is happy. I wonder if he is a good person to her.
Lauryn Hill not dropping an album feels like when Jordan took a hiatus to play baseball. She could have been the best emcee in the game, period. However, the main issue that's held her back has not been her urge to raise a family, but her mental issues. I've got em, you've got em, we've all got em. I just wish she would take her meds, focus on music, and become the legendary artist that we all know she could be. Maybe she doesn't want to, but many people would kill for that opportunity.
Awesome I hadn't heard about Ms. Hill in a longtime! I'm glad she is living life to the fullest. People really don't understand artist, the woman probably got stacks and stacks on TOP of stacks of music in the closet somewhere, she will grace us with her presence again. Music is like fine wine...not cheap ass 4loko or cisco.......O_o....
I have been guilty of stuff like this, hate to admit it but I have. However, I did back up once I had given more thought to it. These days there isn't much art that makes me jump up and pay attention so when something does come along, I do tend to want more immediately.
Completely true. Entitlement of the masses is really the best way to stifle any kind of creativity. Good luck for her and her family and congratulation for the new baby!
People forget that artists and celebrities are human and have lives like we do. If she can take a break from creating albums to raise her family, she's a good mother.
I agree wholeheartedly. I've told a few of the people I know that are superstans of hers to nurse The Miseducation and the Unplugged albums and move on with their lives, because that's not who she is anymore. Appreciate and acknowledge the past but PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS SANE IN THE WORLD MOVE ON.
Sorry for the caps but I can't bold anything so...
we shook her and a baby fell out :) Also, if we as fans pressure her to have another album, and she gives in to that pressure and pumps out an album, then what are the fans going to say? "it was rushed" "it's not REALLY Lauren" "it's shitty" well what the heck do you expect when you pressure someone to do something? I think she should keep raising her babies, and if she wants to have 6 more? so be it! I WILL WAIT!
@lovethyneighborlol That money you speak was a personal spending choice by those of us who paid for the Fuggee Albums and her solo work. She put out commercial art for public consumption. No one put a gun to our collective heads and said by this or else. She signed contracts with major music labels not you or me so she doesn't owe us anything and since we don't know her personal finances we don't know if she WANTS o/e NEEDS the money.
@SilentJutube You're talking in the past tense, why? I said nothing about this past. I said to this day she is performing her hits for our money. This is how she makes her living t-o-d-a-y. She chose to do a concert just this weekend. She isn't running from her past. Please stop pretending that she quit the music business to support her family (quite the opposite, these concerts are bringing $ in for them) & her fans are being vultures because she's clearly still in the business.
@lovethyneighborlol True but what she does isn't a necessity. Her fans won't die if Lauryn takes time off to live her life and raise a family . Now if she puts out crappy albums or poor concert performances than you as a possible consumer of said products have every right to be unhappy and to express said unhappiness and demand your money back or a better product for your consumer dollar.
@lovethyneighborlol u seem to be the only one unable to grasp a simple concept. if she offers an album for u to purchase and u purchase it, u paid for something, u received it, so what are u owed?. if she has a concert and u purchase a ticket and attend, what r u owed but that concert? she doesnt owe you a string of albums or concerts after that just cuz u want them really really bad. no one "quits" the music business but theyre not obligated to continue making music bcuz of that fact.
@lovethyneighborlol I'm not a genius, but I damn sure can read. Again, if she's offering something, and you paid for it, she owes you what's offered and nothing more. If she postpones her career temporarily or if it turns out to be permanently, it might be to raise her kids or it might be for something else. Does it matter? In any scenario, she owes nothing.

Sir, you're an idiot. Lauryn Hill was off having those babies off of OUR MONEY which we paid for her to continue her career. We've been robbed. I love Lauryn Hill but she's an idiot who deserves no defense from anyone, and so are you. {{-_-}}
Suitsnappy 6 months ago

Lauryn Hill is also not your bitch.

People would have more of a leg to stand on if everyone hadn't hated her Unplugged. Lauren kept it real, and apparently that was too real for everyone. She's not going back to fake.
camipco 6 months ago 15
I agree with you about this in relation to music and artistry in general, but in relation to literature... when an author says "this is book 1 of a 7 part series" then I expect those seven books to be written within a decade. They signed up for that pressure when they said "oh! my 1st book was a #1 best-seller, so I'm going to write six more!" To say they're not obligated to finish their work is to say they have a right to be lazy, I don't know of any job where employees are paid to not work.
nerdwerds 6 months ago
@nerdwerds I agree with you somewhat. But let's say your friend promises to do a small favor for you (whose value is equivalent to the entertainment value of a book series), and then something comes up and they don't do it. If they apologize and have a good reason (because there are reasons other than laziness), you might be annoyed with them, but you wouldn't continue thinking that person owes you. It seems no worse an infraction than a broken promise from a complete stranger. Shitty, but nbd.
HelterMcSkelter 6 months ago
@HelterMcSkelter The analogy doesnt really hold water because doing a favor isnt a job. Let's say I hired my friend to paint my house and he only finished part of it then told me he would get around to painting the rest of it once he felt inspired, or he had some "You're not my boss, you can't force me to paint" excuse, I would eventually look for another painter to finish the house. The same could be said about music or books. If you wait long enough, your interest will move to another artist.
nerdwerds 6 months ago
@nerdwerds Well fair enough - but I would argue that printing book 1 of a series and implicitly promising 6 more is different from an agreement to paint a house because it's not a direct exchange of payment for service. Sure, an author has an obligation to his/her publisher (to whom a verbal agreement to accept payment for future books constitutes a binding contract), but not to buyers of the book. Certainly you wouldn't say that authors are in the employment of each of their individual readers.
HelterMcSkelter 6 months ago
@HelterMcSkelter No, I think I would say that authors are in their readers' employ. If George R.R. Martin had advertised his first book as "Part 1 of a 7 part series that will take me more than 17 years to finish" then nobody would have bought the first book, and he knows that. In that sense, he works for everybody who bought the first book. Keep in mind, he has a contract with his publisher so he has already been paid with advances! I could write more elsewhere - YT's commenting system sucks.
nerdwerds 6 months ago
@nerdwerds Well I disagree, but it's an interesting comparison anyway. It is nice to express a conflicting opinion without having someone freak out on Youtube for once.
HelterMcSkelter 6 months ago
@HelterMcSkelter lol, agreed! This debate is actually one I've been having with members of my gaming group for the last few weeks, two of us think authors are employed by the people who buy their books and two of us agree with Gaiman's assessment that authors are not employed and thus do not 'owe' work, and another is on the fence. I'm strictly of the opinion that if an author commits to a series, they had better be prepared to write that series in a timely manner. I've used Terry Pratchet as...
nerdwerds 6 months ago
@HelterMcSkelter ...comparison, because Pratchett doesn't have a 'schedule' or a set series, yet he has been writing Discworld novels for about two decades now, and they come out about once a year on average, yet his writing is always witty, intelligent and (most importantly) canonical to all of his previous Discworld novels. Pratchett is the high bar of quality and timeliness by which I judge all other authors.

Thanks for the great vid!
iamsillywarm 6 months ago
@iamsillywarm Selfish? How is it selfish for two people that love each other to give an opportunity of life to someone, for someone to witness the world all it's goods and bad's and what if one of these popped out babies figures out how to make the world a better place. If anyone is SELFISH it's you for just ignorantly stating your opinion and not thinking ahead!
zapmanclark 6 months ago
@zapmanclark It's selfish because it consumes resources that we don't have, thereby causing a greater debt of suffering to both the child and to people who were already here. You can "give the opportunity of life" to someone (two someones, in fact) without being a part of the overpopulation problem.
It is not a birthright to have six kids. If all of us did, we'd be screwed as a species. I think that was his point.
HelterMcSkelter 6 months ago
@zapmanclark But I am thinking ahead.I'm thinking ahead to a time when the world is so overpopulated that we will be fighting wars over water and there will be massive die offs from famine and disease percipitated by over population. Do you stay current with the looming draught issues in the southwest that will threaten desert communities like LA, Vegas, Pheonix and Texas? I'm all about love but adding a whole group of extra people to the already strained planet is not thinking ahead.

Oops! and Jay I understand what youre saying, but when an artist that hasnt dropped an album in ten years announces he or she is releasing one and then she or he dont, for whatever reason, they should at least apologise to the fans, not because theyre simply not doing it but because theyve said they will soon. Her attitude is disappointing, and disrespectful to the fans, im sorry, this is not miseducated but uneducated, she doesnt own us loyalty, but yes, she should have more respect for us...
souljah309 6 months ago
@souljah309 Umm, she didn't announce that she was making an album. She announced that she was going on tour and that she was ready to express herself again. So the uneducated one is you, pumpkin!
Moxyville 6 months ago
@Moxyville Yeh, youre right: she didnt give us any exact release date. But when someone, that hasnt release for 12 years, says shes been working on new music and is getting closer to a new album, I understand that the album could be ready 'anytime soon'. Pras made it much worse when he said the album was due in summer. But Pras is not Lauryn, and im uneducated about the worlds strange sense of logic and understanding; in Lauryns universe all this could easily mean 'soon', by 2020 or 2035...

ealvarezz10 6 months ago
@ealvarezz10 hatred and bigotry are weapons against people, not the world... over population = higher demand for space and resources, the world simply does not have an endless supply of that..... china has the right idea, a one kid maximum! Please, I only accept intelligent responses
y2kalonn 6 months ago
@y2kalonn There is no such thing as overpop. on Earth. The truth is that resources are not adequately disbursed to the people. A lot of the Earth resources are wasted on non-nonsensical material possessions. Look up the facts. Deep down do you truly believe that the gov. has the right to regulate how many children you have? What if you are the last of your generation. Once you die your family's history will be gone. It's the same thing as saying poor people shouldn't have children.

true, but I think people or more mad about lauren on her 6th kid, which is a whole damn lot for anybody, especially for somebody who is mental unstable like lauren. I honestly can't imagine Lauren having a huge vault of money now a days and from what I know from Laurens personality, it seem more like she has a bunch of kids out of irresponsibility rather that wanting to be like the cosby's. So from that stand point she is better off turning her craziness into great music like before, imo.
killahkazi 6 months ago
@killahkazi Firstly, no one has received any document from a psychiatrist stating that lauren is mentally unstable, that is all hearsay and I doubt that anything that comes from "the music industry" is credible these days. She's just one of the few artists we have who decided not to become 1 of the many bubble-pop clones or "artists" we have today. And secondly, I doubt you know Ms. Hill personally so anything you claim to know about her personality/motive behind her actions is unjustified!

Maybe she doesn't want to, but many people would kill for that opportunity.

lovethyneighborlol 6 months ago
@lovethyneighborlol That money you speak was a personal spending choice by those of us who paid for the Fuggee Albums and her solo work. She put out commercial art for public consumption. No one put a gun to our collective heads and said by this or else. She signed contracts with major music labels not you or me so she doesn't owe us anything and since we don't know her personal finances we don't know if she WANTS o/e NEEDS the money.
SilentJutube 6 months ago
@SilentJutube You're talking in the past tense, why? I said nothing about this past. I said to this day she is performing her hits for our money. This is how she makes her living t-o-d-a-y. She chose to do a concert just this weekend. She isn't running from her past. Please stop pretending that she quit the music business to support her family (quite the opposite, these concerts are bringing $ in for them) & her fans are being vultures because she's clearly still in the business.
lovethyneighborlol 6 months ago
@lovethyneighborlol True but what she does isn't a necessity. Her fans won't die if Lauryn takes time off to live her life and raise a family . Now if she puts out crappy albums or poor concert performances than you as a possible consumer of said products have every right to be unhappy and to express said unhappiness and demand your money back or a better product for your consumer dollar.
SilentJutube 6 months ago
@lovethyneighborlol u seem to be the only one unable to grasp a simple concept. if she offers an album for u to purchase and u purchase it, u paid for something, u received it, so what are u owed?. if she has a concert and u purchase a ticket and attend, what r u owed but that concert? she doesnt owe you a string of albums or concerts after that just cuz u want them really really bad. no one "quits" the music business but theyre not obligated to continue making music bcuz of that fact.
