@arandabay; that's quite obvious. it's the only scene, in which Roy is NOT a storyteller. Alexandria is being operated at this time and that's what we see: her memories combined with the parts of the Roy's story. As you noticed, they're quite chaotic, because dreams aren't always logical.
If you haven't yet, do yourself a huge favor, go buy a blu-ray player and a huge-ass screen HD TV. Buy the blu-ray version of this film, lock yourself in your room and watch it on a loop. It's that awesome!
I really liked it when they brought in the puppets - reminded me a bit of that accident scene in Frida. It just gives the scene something extra, a bit eerie, but with a gothic kind of beauty.
Ive never seen this movie sooo Call me an idiot all you want.....but what did i just watch.....Im sure these movies are symbolically amazing. but to the average viewer...#MISS.....PLEASE DONT GET ME WRONG. I appreciate Art in Film....but I'm just not really getting the orgasmic sensation that everyone is getting while watching this clip.....can someone explain this segment or tell me where I can watch the whole thing.
EXCEPT THIS SCENE (to be exact, between 2:05 and 2:35).
The whole thirty seconds scream satanic ritual abuse. I'm sure they could have done a better job at least by leaving the audio of the whining girl out of it. Absolutely unnecessary!!!
@reubenprowse i'm not sure that's what they were trying to communicate man. That doesn't seem logical. What makes you think it's a satanic ritual? It seems to me more like a primative disection or surgery or something.. But I guess it could be like how the greek fortune tellers used to cut open a rabbit or bird and tell the future based on its gizzards.. But where do u get satan worship in there??
@SHIBBYiPANDA I got more of a "child's imagining of an operation" from it. I was disturbed, but when you think about it, this is how a child might imagine an operation - with the doll being cut open and the creepy surreal figures bending over it. I dunno...
@coramunroe That's exactly what I thought when i saw it. Since a child has to apply what he/she already knows to something that is unknown, dolls and toys will be the stand-ins in their imagination. And the result in this case was disturbing because you felt the unknown that the child felt. The fear of confusion and imagination.
This was and is a very different movie, which had superb cinematography and truly put the viewer into a different point of view. Overall I liked the move but It is a very slow movie. I'm not sure if the movie could be as effective as it is if the pacing were different.
@Museegirl0018 IT's not because some shots are great, all of them are. I loved the opening shot of The Fall. ANd some others too. However, as the movie progresses, it becomes too much. At some points it gets campy because of that...
@LionEyeproductions YOU'RE campy and arrogant. The storyline is deliberately simplified because it's a story being told to a child, and visualized through HER imagination.
I don't seem to get the point. The lady has a wooden leg. The guy that looks like Zorro sits on a camera crane, a tent burns and then it's just messy pictures?? What the heck is this about?
@LandgasthofEismann this scene tells the history of one of the main characters and how reality and the fictional story are all tied together through Roy's telling of the story and the little girl's imagination.
you'd have to actually WATCH the film to understand it. which clearly you never bothered to before bashing it.
@usakoesm how can I bash something that I haven't seen? and no I wasn't bashing anything. I was listing the things I saw. I'm from europe and we never saw that film here.
I loved this movie. Alexandrea stole my heart. The visual effects compare to none. Some of the parts were confusing, but the jest of the story was Alexandria's childlike friendship with Roy. Thanks, Netflix, for exposing me to it.
I get the feeling the movie is incoherent/just plain dumb and has a weak script- stunning visuals do not make up for that. I haven't seen it though, just clips.
I might. Looking back at my comment I see how harsh it is. I do think Tarsem has an incredible visual sense. I mean, that video he did for Deep Forest is just incredible and might be my favorite video of all time. But from what I've read of the story it doesn't interest me. However, I might watch it just to appreciate the imagery- which I know will be incredible.
I love this film. I watched it for the first time yesterday night and the scene where Alexandria cracked her head and later had her operation was done so beautifully.
this scene made me very confused during the movie, but when I looked it over, it suddenly made sense. I like the grotesque and intense atmosphere it has, capturing the pain just right that she must feel, but translated to this little girl's mind.
Okay, I want to rent this movie, but it's rated R. My mom will want to watch it with me, so is there any parts in it that I should be warned about? Besides the dying?
Most people agree it didn't deserve the R rating. A couple semi-gross scenes: dead bodies hung to form a chandelier but you see it only briefly; guy gets impaled by a sword; guy gets shot with a bunch of arrows and falls on them. Also a nurse is having an affair with a doctor, but it is so subtle most adults don't even notice it.
but its okay the cameraing and the special effects
