this is motown 25. he had to mime cause michael jackson initially didn't want to perform in this show. berry gordy eventually persuaded michael to bi in the show, but by then the band were only aware of the jacksons performing, but they didn't know what michael was going to do by himself. there was only enough time to get the original and play it while michael performed it.

I remember watching this show the night it first aired in the early 80s----on a 13" black and white TV set in my room at my parents house---- I was a white kid in a small town area---but loved the Big Detroit Motown Sound of the 1960s and wanted to see the stars perform. When MJ sang this, of course it was brilliant----but when he introduced the moonwalk, he took things to a whole new level. I thought I was seeing things----couldn't believe he was moving like that without some special stage.

I don't mind his music and his death intrigues me but I'm sorry it shows a complete lack of respect to the audience to lip sync on stage. Who cares if he was dancing. When Elvis was sick and bloated and dying he sang in perfect pitch while dancing.
