Hey, i just found out about The Kinks so i don`t know anything, but, what was the song at the very begginning of this video? Also, is Dave Davies gay?
he was strolling down the streets of New Orleans some years ago when some batererds stole the girlhandbag (not his !!) so RAY thought he was having none of it and he gave chase to the thief (thieves?) after 127 English yards, the hoodlum drew out a MAUSER and shot Ray in the leg...the bullet went through his leg and killed Ray's girlfriend Robert.
The Kinks output is actually second to none. (That's none, not Noone!)They are indeed my favourite. And yes I do happen to be rather familiar with British bands, from the early 60s til the end of the day. Ray and Dave trump them all.
My favorite English band, since my childhood, besides the Who. But folks, I have to agree with Dave, I mean, is it really possible for Ray to really be happy?? Like Pete Townsend, his best work comes from his inner turmoil.

Clearly you know the man very well having spent numerous hours in his company, haveing come to such a conclusion. I will agree that he is a fine lyric writer and the Kinks were one of a small number of British bands that produced a number of fairly good records, but if they are your favorite English band then its likely you simply don't know very much about the British scene. The Kinks output is far for consistent. Not that youe opinion is very important but I just thought I would point thatout.
im with you man...To me The Who were the greatest rock&roll band ever, followed by the beatles and kinks. those are my big three...the stones are something like 53rd.
They had 6 much older sisters. Ray was more or less raised by one sister and Dave by another. Because they were separated for much of their childhoods, Ray believes they did not get enough chances to beat the crap out of each other and get it out of their systems as kids like most brothers do.
He's brilliant and one of the greatest songwriters of all time, but there is nothing that sparkles about his personality. I'll pass on the cute part. To each his own.

The song at the beginning is called "All Day and All of the Night" and is one of their biggest hits. And Dave is actually bisexual. Hope that helps!
