@tzoukritzou He sure did ;) with his impressive wins at the end of the season... watch out, the Swiss Maestro will be back for a 17th grand slam title and counting!
He's human and so rarely does this that I forgive him. For Fed, most of the time he is not emotional ENOUGH - case in point: Johnny Mac getting mad at him during the French Open and US Open (both 2011) for squandering break points and letting leads get away. I remember when he sat down after blowing a lead John Mac said he wished Fed would just "Show some emotion!" instead of sitting there stone faced... I had to agree - might have fired him up just when he needed it most...
@poplova he smashed heaps of rackets in his younger days, because he has won 16 grand slams and showed little emotion if he loses people who dont know the old federer make assumptions.
mentiras esto no es inusual fed cuando era niño siempre rompia las raquetas! las rompio tanto que se volvio un experto jajaja! fed recuperate pronto!! para que puedas seguir adelante
Nothing wrong with losing it sometimes and smashing his racquet. It was the disgraceful way he treated the ball boy that really turns me off this character. And I used to be a HUGE Federer fan.
@GregHuismans - Nothing to do with the ball boy. He threw the bottle behind him as he was clearly annoyed at his level of play and was oblivious to the ball boy. The ball boy was running from the net post on the other side of the court and happened to come into frame as the bottle was thrown, picked it up and gave Roger a new bottle of water. I was courtside of this match, nothing untoward happened here.
@fack12x1do Nadal has made him smash his racket. It was on clay. Saw it on YouTube. Federer has made Djokovic smash his racket as well. I've never seen Nadal smash his racket though. If anyone has a video of that please reply to this post.
The crowd should have cheered? Why would you boo the greatest player in history who never does that? It's bout time and every great player gets mad and loses their cool. Go Roger!
All the comments saying it's the wrong way to act, the wrong attitude... are coming from peope who NEVER played tennis and don't EVEN know how breaking a racquet make you feel better, after having so much frustrating points...
well I hope players do not take on that reaction. I know in some circumstances it can be forgiven, but generally it is sick behaviour. Gonzalez is the perfect example of that behaviour and bad attitude in tennis.
wow all of u RF fans...u r such a sore losers...i mean when someone else breaks a racquet its buuuuu...but when RF do it its the way of the Champion...do u even listen to yourselfs...ccc
this is amzing, how is it possible that somebody who knows how to win, do not know how to loose, and the end he is acting like another small brain guy, just as Safin or gonsalez, he looks like a litle lady perfoming the smash, lol
@Timothy9BALA yes they are, and still acting like a big looser when Djokovic, Nadal, Gasquet, Soderling, Del Potro, Safinor whoever beats him, cryting like a baby just because they played better than him, arrogant, stupid, egocentric, what a champion
haha...he broke his racquet because djokovic was better than him!...and THAT'S WHY he was so frustrated...I mean i understand Federer got to have big ego but...to be honest...djokovic kicked his sorry ass that time... : ))...greetings!
Yeah and you're just a worthless piece of shit that would give anything to be as great as Federer but never will because you are simply too retarded. Go continue sucking on your thumb loser and shut up
@BrotherTree1 fuck off all tennis players break raquets and get frustrated, it can be the most frustarating thing it's not ike he hit the ball boy he just through a water bottle.
Love the way he toss the bottles... LMAO... bad loser. And some people still sustain that he´s a gentleman... I never saw Rafa did things like shut up the public, break racquets or argue with the umpire. The only time I saw Rafa angry was on RG 09 ´cause the camera guy almost hit his face when he leaves the court.
@porkusmag First of all, I've seen Rafa get absolutely furious with the umpire. Secondly, "OMG Federer threw a bottle and broke a raquet a couple of times in 10 years, he are not gentleman. He are rude, obnoxious tennis player" Of all the things one could do in frustration, tossing a plastic bottle is tame. Sounds to me like you have an agenda against Federer for whatever reason and are scraping the very edges of the barrel to find reasons to support such an unjustified position of disrespect.
i dont think it was about treating the ballboys bad.i think he just wanted to throw something around.im a fed fan and its hard for me to see him like this but ppl have to understand that hes a very calm and classy person who holds everything in him,so outbursts are bound to happen.plus i think he started having some health problems in 2009 and he still has some.actually, everyone, even the ballboys say hes very kind to them and often sais "thank you" and "please"
i can't believe the crowd boo'ed ... i'd be honored to be in the presence of such a smash ... besides, it's quite a feat... it's not easy to deform a new racquet in one smash like that - i'd swear they're trained just to do that :P
what a dick, treats the ballkids like shit, throwing his bottle on the ground like a baby. regardless of ones success, they still find ways to embarass themselves
@njikwa sure ive felt anger in my life but i wouldn't take it out on a child by treating them as less than i am - Federer was wrong to treat the ballboy with disrespect. his "class" was proven plastic after this vid
I think it's unfair to say his politeness is plastic because of *one* incident. I'm not making excuses for him, but you've gotta look at the guy by the summation of his actions over his career. To call him fake from this one incident is to not see the forest from the trees.
Theres is no excuse. He is not humble at all. Being number one... doesn't give him the right to do nor say whatever he wants.... he is so arrogant!!! A true champion behaves in all his ways.
@goallervamos i agree fed isnt humble but he is under such constant pressure from everyone watching him. everyone expects nothing but pure excellence so i bet it is frustrating to be frustrated and not being able to release that.
that was awesome. when he does things its like 120%. everyone has a bad day... can't play tennis for so many years and not get frustrated at least once. what was up with the crowd booing. which hick place was this?
yeah i know. it wasn't in any shops. so i bought it online. 200 dollar racquet. and the racquet head is mad small but it is my favorite racquet i've ever used. and i've used many kinds
Also, sorry to keep commenting, but like the commentator said, he was making the same error on the same shot so many times. Imagine the frustration...
hes human, ppl who bash him for it dont know how frustrating the sport can really get, and i can't even imagine the higher level of frustration at the professional league..
True, last year there are people who went as far as to recommend him to some psychiarists or whatever.A big joke,I always believe Federer will be back, screw those who said Federer's era was over.Look at Roger Federer now,15 record-breaking slams and number 1 once again.
Even the commentator, if I interpreted it correctly, was right: "And that may help." I mean he was relieving the frustration that built up inside, it's completely natural for a human being. I know several good-hearted athletes who have had their fair share of frustrating moments in which they released the stress of it in similar ways.
And yeah, he's definitely among the best players of this game in the history of the sport. He's not a robot though, so if he doesn't succeed once, people get..
up till this match we saw the darkest time of federers career. i am almost positive had federer lost in the french open 2009, he wud have been a complete broken man. lucky that didnt happen lol
Smashing a racquet means someone desperately lacks self-control - control of their emotions and physical responses. This is the same type of personality that will sucker punch someone or have road rage incidents, etc.
The real reason he smashed his racket is not only because of the frustration that his game was down so much and all the unforced errors, but also because this is the same shot that cost him the wimbledon 2008 final. His most painful loss.
I'm sorry but do you even follow Tennis? Let me bring you up to speed:
If Roger had won:
13 Grand Slams - 1 less than all time record.
6 Wimbledon titles in a row - NEVER achieved in the open era by anyone EVER. And not only that, this was Wimbledon, the most prestigious grand slam of them all.
yea, i do follow tennis. i love watching the sport. so what if he lost? a lot of tragedies happen and people can't fulfill their dreams, but that doesn't excuse their behavior if it's intolerable especially coming from such a high profiled tennis player who i'm sure is a model to many. and wimbledon is the most prestigious grand slam in YOUR opinion.
if you're going to rely on wikipedia as a sound source, then i don't think i can carry on this debate with you. and as for achieving something no one else has...what about michael phelps and 2004 olympics where he didn't get 8 gold medals, i don't think he took it so badly...i guess he's more of a man than that.
you dont even follow tennis. after winning the french open he has 14 grand slam titles. so you rather get your information straight or just shut the fuck up.
I am talking about last year (2008) when Federer lost the WImbledon Final to Nadal. He had 12 Grand slams at the time and Wimbledon would have given him 13 as well as 6 Wimbledons in a row.
Federer later got his 13th grand slam at the US Open 2008 and Number 14 and 15 were French Open 2009 and Wimbledon 2009.
The reason why he broke his racquet is because he was playing very bad for his standards, and besides there was Novak Djokovic...and we all know he hates Novak....that's why he was pissed-and did what he did!
i didnt know roger is capable to do such things... he's still human after all. amazing!

It was pretty obvious why he broke his racquet.
At this current time Federer was in a bad drought after losing that heartbreaking final at Australia. He only bounced back at the French.
But this was also the same shot that cost him the Wimbledon Final.

He's not a robot though, so if he doesn't succeed once, people get..

...all over him. I mean he's not perfect, but he's such a great tennis player.

TheErbz 2 years ago
tennis is a very mentally chalenging sport, everybody has there moments when they just need to smash there racquet

Yes, just look at Safin....

his poor racket. Well smashing the racket leads to a point deduction usually.

never mind roger, you rock no matter what:)

finally federer shows some personality, good for him
bonfirejovi 2 years ago
Unfortunately the personality he shoes is that of a jackass.
Robert111 2 years ago
why? whats wrong with smashing a racket, it doesnt hurt anyone.
bonfirejovi 2 years ago
Smashing a racquet means someone desperately lacks self-control - control of their emotions and physical responses. This is the same type of personality that will sucker punch someone or have road rage incidents, etc.
Robert111 2 years ago
The real reason he smashed his racket is not only because of the frustration that his game was down so much and all the unforced errors, but also because this is the same shot that cost him the wimbledon 2008 final. His most painful loss.
sulhaq 2 years ago
so what? other people lose all the time to him or just in general. what makes his "painful loss" so special?

I'm sorry but do you even follow Tennis? Let me bring you up to speed:
If Roger had won:
13 Grand Slams - 1 less than all time record.
6 Wimbledon titles in a row - NEVER achieved in the open era by anyone EVER. And not only that, this was Wimbledon, the most prestigious grand slam of them all.
sulhaq 2 years ago
yea, i do follow tennis. i love watching the sport. so what if he lost? a lot of tragedies happen and people can't fulfill their dreams, but that doesn't excuse their behavior if it's intolerable especially coming from such a high profiled tennis player who i'm sure is a model to many. and wimbledon is the most prestigious grand slam in YOUR opinion.
moonbunnie318 2 years ago
Come back and say this to me when you are about to achieve something no one has ever achieved in this world Period. And fail. See how you feel then.
And no, It's not just my opinion. Go to Wikipedia and look up "The Championships, Wimbledon"
Read the first line of the article.
sulhaq 2 years ago
if you're going to rely on wikipedia as a sound source, then i don't think i can carry on this debate with you. and as for achieving something no one else has...what about michael phelps and 2004 olympics where he didn't get 8 gold medals, i don't think he took it so badly...i guess he's more of a man than that.
moonbunnie318 2 years ago
Yeah....you see those [2][3][4][5] next to "Most Prestigious" in the Wikipedia article? Those are called SOURCES. Ever heard of them? Guess not.
Four Official sources state Wimbledon is the most prestigious grand slam.
Perhaps you should actually read before commenting.

You are a clown.
MyMarmar123 2 years ago
Yeah, I'm guessing Phelps didn't take it too badly, he just pulled out his bong and chilled, bro.
Muzikhead993 2 years ago
you dont even follow tennis. after winning the french open he has 14 grand slam titles. so you rather get your information straight or just shut the fuck up.
Pravoizavlijesvijeta 2 years ago
English Literature Epic Fail.
Now shut up.
sulhaq 2 years ago
Haha Fed just trashed Novak in 2 easy sets...
manco82 2 years ago 9
The reason why he broke his racquet is because he was playing very bad for his standards, and besides there was Novak Djokovic...and we all know he hates Novak....that's why he was pissed-and did what he did!
