  • When did they release again? I would buy in heart beat. Had one in early 80's

  • totally just used other kids Merlin as a walkie-talkie while playing guns. it looks likes some crappy phone Lando would use on Bespin to call sexy women.

  • I loved this !!!

  • 1 of my favorite toys as a child, bought 2 since i started collecting retro electronic stuff in 1997

  • I have one here on my lap :) 70's rule

  • It the shitz!

  • This is probably the best electronic toy ever made... She's beautiful and acts like a little friend. I don't still have the one I had as a kid (not my fault as I'd never have parted with her willingly), but now I own three original era ones, including a Canadian one labeled in both French and English... manual for that one is cool too... Anyone have a Dr. Smith (Japanese? version)... I don't yet...

  • looks like a giant cell phone

  • I LOVED this when I was a kid; one of the all-time great early electronic games!

  • merlin is tha joint!

  • oh dam i saw this at a thrift store like a week ago and now its gone:(

  • lol! I'm so jealous of everyone who still has theirs! This was a great game - my cousin and I used to program it to play Row Row Row your Boat and then we'd each start ours at a different time so it played in a "round". What kids will think to do! This game ROCKED!

  • 6 batteries?? WOw....

  • I will be 45 next month and I still have my Merlin game. It still works!

  • Everytime I see this commercial I expect Casper the Friendly Ghost to come on after it.

  • Best Christmas gift I ever got!! Still got it, box and all.

  • w00t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You would comment on this hahaha. zina is still better.

  • Kids should still play these games... good for cognition.

  • Anna, It was a memory game. We need to bring back this type of game to sharpen up the minds of our youth once again.

  • This brings back memories of past Christmases and the excitement I would feel as a kid about Christmas coming

  • I LOVE my Merlin! I am 41 now and have played it all these years! The kids look at it as a dinosaur but I don't care cos we have had fun over the years and I doubt his XBOX360 will be around much longer...

  • Have you seen the 2008 re-release?

  • I got the re-release. Its just as fun as the original, wich I also had :)

  • I had one of those!

  • I never had one of those...I nevere wanted one actually...it looks like a giant red cellphone

  • i love my merlin, its soooo much fun to play!

  • I had a Merlin. I remember the "Music Machine" function didn't store that many notes :-). You could make a song that would maybe last a minute, lol.

  • what was the game like that that said "kiss my toilet"?

  • AAH! Flashback! OMG...what memories! I had a Merlin...LOVED IT! Thanks for this post!

  • I still have My Merlin game since 1979

  • I had a Merlin. My little sister decided it was "dirty". So she washed off in the sink. It never worked again.

Then i got a master merlin. It was blue. Thanks for post.

  • I've always loved this commercial, especially the delightfully catchy tune. I've never owned a Merlin, but I'll try to get one on Ebay. I already have the commercial on a classic TV commercials DVD. Thanks for the old memories, mdduckman.

  • I got one from Cash King a few months back for like $5.

  • Thanks for the information.

  • Oh Merlin. I've still got mine around here somewhere. I just have to find it. Also I think I have an original 2XL in the attic. (Granted, these were handed down to me from my older brothers.)

  • Awesome Commercial! I actually loved these games, and I found this cool website that has almost every electronic handheld game for sale. It's great if you want the original classics.

    ElectronicHandHelds . com

  • I had one of those. I think it got sold in a garage sale sometime in the late 80's.

  • I just searched through some boxes in the garage and actually found the damn thing, and it still works. It's been boxed up for many years and many moves. I did an online search for the directions because I don't remember how to play it. Thanks for inspiring me, cool commercial.

  • Had one too, think it's in a box somewhere.

  • I loved Merlin. I played it all the time. My other favorite was Simon.

  • cool

  • My brother had one of thems. Looked like a telephone from the future. (Design wasn't that far off, either.)

  • mine still works too

  • Wow, screw X-box 360 and PS3, this is where it's at!

  • my friend Deana Settle had one and I begged and begged for it...Finally I got it from a store called Korvette. Does anyone remember that store

  • I still have this and it works. Although the battery compartment is corroded, an AC adapter works with it.

  • swab off the area with vinegar... it will clean up any corrosion...

  • @chipuc My three have this problem. thanks for the tip...

  • i had one of those 5.5 million units.anyone remember fabulous fred?

  • *raises hand* F.Fred (aka disco dancefloor) rules , I have the one from childhood and another I found at a thrift store :-)

  • I received my Merlin in 1978, the year that it lunched by Parker Brothers. Shortly thereafter it sold over 5.5 million units.

  • Is that Randy Travis singing?

  • wow, 6 whole games in 1, actually it was pretty cool

  • I loved this game but I didn't remember what it was called. Merlin huh? Pretty dumb.

  • What the heck is a pen light battery?

  • It's what we modern people call AA batteries.

  • I think you can find them next to the 110 cartridge film.
