That was really good. The audio quality is bad in this video and thats why it sounds a little strange. She didnt try and copy whitney and thats why it sounds os different. Very good!

Ummm...no. She went to Shiloh High School in Snellville, GA. American Idol even came to our school gym when she got into the top 3. All the finalists went back home for like a week. Our principal, Dr. Kruscamp, gave her a jersey and we made fun of him because we told him his bald spot looked even larger on television.

You don't compare a young teen to a adult singer. If anyone's curious about hearing other great kid singers, I went to the Philippines last month and discovered Pop Star Kids and was greatly amazed by all the great talent coming out of that show.
Diana was 15 during AMTK, She was 16 when she competed On idol. Idol ended In late MAy and Diana turned 17 in mid June.. I Know this because I attended Dianas 17th Birthday bash held at Stone Mountain Park IN Atlanta Georgia. It was the first time I ever met Diana so I remember it to this day!
Diana was 16 during Idol didnt turn 17 until after the Idol Season ended Which it ended in May and Diana turned 17 in JUNE I attended her 17th Birthday bash party.. so I know this to be a fact.. Diana was 15 during AMTK!
This was on the show "America's Most Talented Kid." Diana came into American Idol as a 16 year old with a lot of confidence and experience, which definitely played to her advantage against the other 16-17 year olds. This goes to show that in AI age only plays a small factor, singing experience is a must, and I pity all the young contestants that haven't had much.

If you compare this to Australian Idols Emily Williams version its pure crap! It's mostly shouted and she looks like she is dressed to the prom. No offense guys but she obviously must have improved dramatically in her journy in american Idol because this was very screechy.

Diana did a terrific job with this song. But the best version I have heard (besides Whitney's and Dolly's, of course) was done live by Quiana Parler, one of Clay's fantastic and incredible backup singers. She got such a resounding ovation you could hardly hear the last few lines of her performance. You can find it if you type in - Quiana Parler, I Will Always Love You Made everyone say in the audience: 'Whitney, who?'!
Dude, why is zhicong criticizing whitney who is a legend as far as female vocalists are concerned. And I'm impressed with this 15 year old Diana. She was so young and she had so much time to get better. They only criticism about this performance is that there is no subtlety so the hook has no significance whatsoever...if you listen to whitney, that's one of the biggest differences.

Well i partly agree and mostly disgree...first of all I've watched enough of Diana Degarmo's performances to know that she can't pull this song off. There are certain select singers who can but obviously never as well as Houston (used to). So are you disagreeing about the performance that we both saw as far as her interpretation?

Of course Diana is not Whitney, and i prefer Whitney's by a mile. But the point of singing someone else is not about singing as well as the original artist. It's about making the song your own.

That's where you and i differ. i dont think she sang it well period. just because someone has good intonnation and can belt out notes, that doesn't make them a good singer right off the bat; it's just a great advantage. Overall i thought this performance was very over-the-top and meaningless. She has moments of greatness andlots of potential but even now she lacks a lot of depth in the way she sings. You and I will never agree on this because you thought she did well and i didn't.

Diana came into American Idol as a 16 year old with a lot of confidence and experience, which definitely played to her advantage against the other 16-17 year olds. This goes to show that in AI age only plays a small factor, singing experience is a must, and I pity all the young contestants that haven't had much.

God! I remember this!! I went to high school with Diana and this was when she was a sophomore (I think). She sang this song at the school talent show and she's LOUD!! It's a shame she didn't win American Idol.

If you compare this to Australian Idols Emily Williams version its pure crap! It's mostly shouted and she looks like she is dressed to the prom. No offense guys but she obviously must have improved dramatically in her journy in american Idol because this was very screechy.

Idiot, you don't compare someone on a talent show of that calibur to a talent show for kids. It's like comparing middle school drama production to an opera. Diana's still developing her singing. I haven't heard Emily Williams sing and I bet she sang this song very well, but once again, you can't compare a performance from a kid's talent TV show to a nationwide singing competition.

Diana did a terrific job with this song. But the best version I have heard (besides Whitney's and Dolly's, of course) was done live by Quiana Parler, one of Clay's fantastic and incredible backup singers. She got such a resounding ovation you could hardly hear the last few lines of her performance. You can find it if you type in - Quiana Parler, I Will Always Love You Made everyone say in the audience: 'Whitney, who?'!

Dude, why is zhicong criticizing whitney who is a legend as far as female vocalists are concerned. And I'm impressed with this 15 year old Diana. She was so young and she had so much time to get better. They only criticism about this performance is that there is no subtlety so the hook has no significance whatsoever...if you listen to whitney, that's one of the biggest differences.

whitney herself sounded really "over-the-top on some of her performances. opps i'm being nice - i meant almost all! i did not like it at all because it always felt like whitney was having a seisure - listen to her performances of "greatest love of all" - every single year she sang it, she faltered. what's wrong?! i rather listen to her cd thank you very much.

I think Diana did an "AMAZING" job singing "I Will Always Love You" which was written and song by "Dolly Parton". Yes Whitney did a "Fantastic" job with the song, but then again I enjoyed Diana's version!

I get the idea some people (not on here) thought her voice was fake and would die by 2006. All the great powerhouse vocalists like Whitney,Celine,Christina,Mariah,etc where all called 'Shouters' when they were young like Diana was. However, their voices matuered and became more real. Same thing is happening in 2006 to Diana

Well i partly agree and mostly disgree...first of all I've watched enough of Diana Degarmo's performances to know that she can't pull this song off. There are certain select singers who can but obviously never as well as Houston (used to). So are you disagreeing about the performance that we both saw as far as her interpretation?

Of course Diana is not Whitney, and i prefer Whitney's by a mile. But the point of singing someone else is not about singing as well as the original artist. It's about making the song your own.
In this case, Diana made it her own and pulled it off. It couldn't have been any better. Her voice was never off-key and held the note very nicely.
Why don't you listen to the song like you're listening for the first time?

That's where you and i differ. i dont think she sang it well period. just because someone has good intonnation and can belt out notes, that doesn't make them a good singer right off the bat; it's just a great advantage. Overall i thought this performance was very over-the-top and meaningless. She has moments of greatness andlots of potential but even now she lacks a lot of depth in the way she sings. You and I will never agree on this because you thought she did well and i didn't.

The whole point of singing a song from famous artist is making it "her own".
Diana was very inconsistent. But she definitely showed she can sing with "don't cry out loud" in top 3. She can't just go from bad to sensational.

totally agree with don't cry out loud...i was gonna put that on my second to last response but i ran out of space. but also, just because someone makes a song "their own", it doesn't necessarily mean it's good. she didn't do a good job with i will always love you. i'm sure you don't want me to infer that you think just cause she she nails other songs, that means she's not open to some rightful criticism on this performance, do you?

No, I didn't really like her that much until she sang "Don't cry out loud". It only takes one performance to get my recognition.
And when you meant she didn't do well, are you saying she didn't do well comparing to Whitney or didn't do well as herself? Because my point is "don't compare the performance to original artist".
