  • yeah Fuck Steve Vai . This is tha real shit!!!

  • Crazy shit! *ThumbsUp* WOW! WOW!

  • Godin <3

  • Is this what they mean when they say you have to learn a tune well enough until you feel you own it ?!?

  • i hope stevie had listened to this great performance :-)

  • Birelì and Sylvan are two of the most gifted guitarits around today and their performance is a sure pleasure !

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing job from both!! Jeeeez... down the hat. ..still, I have to say in this performance i prefer the phrasings, the chord voicing, and the general feel of Sylvain Luc. Love those bass lines of Bireli too!

  • YEAR???????

  • Brilliant

  • I think Bireli does a better job playing back up, his chord comping and bass notes are incredibly placed and thought out, great chord voicings too

  • @fuzzycows thats because Bireli is also a brilliant bass player lolol

  • @fuzzycows some of his improvisations are too out for this tune, then again, he'll turn it around and do something beautiful, then go crazy out again. I dunno, I think Sylvain's soloing is more musical.

  • These Guys... give us... Perfect Jazz Guitar...so many Beautiful Notes...It`s amazing what comes from `Just Fuck`n Around` !!!

  • Fucking around ?!? God, you people are really dumb, and you don't know anything about music, and ofcourse, improvisation. That intro is killer.

  • 4:10-4:15 FUUUUCK!!!

  • 6:13 , i think it's the best impro novadays ;))

  • grooby

  • Sylvain Luc was better in his first day of playing guitar than all you haters will ever be in your lives. "Fucking around" = Tasteful, Thought out, Well executed and Knowledgeable improvising. Guaranteed.

"Isn't all this fucking around lovely!"

  • Sylvian Luc was better in his first day of playing guitar than all you haters will ever be in your lives. "Fucking around" = Tasteful, Thought out, Well executed and Knowledgeable improvising. Guaranteed.

  • Soloing is one thing but how about the amazing comping they both do. No need for a bass there... (hehehe)

  • I used to watch this video like everyday 4 years ago. bireli lagrene opened a whole world of guitar for me when i was starting!

  • Guitar wanking of the highest caliber

  • Stop the yappin', and listen to the music!

This is as close to the light as you can come.

  • talent, pure, brute, raw, outstanding talent

  • At 6:01, Bireli is like, "damn, just finish already..."

  • @taufoofar Could be - but he has the same expression on his face sometimes when he himself is soloing, and Luc was only just starting his 4th chorus, and Bireli took 4 too (though Luc did add a 5th after that :)

  • sylvain between bass and guitar like bireli .

  • Simply awesome

  • Sylvain Luc is incredible!!!

  • Bireli in Bebop mode ^^

  • i think the essence of what they are trying to do is take a familiar, popular, and catchy tune that everybody's heard. and just show how "fucking around" can be something beautiful

  • I raped the replay button.

  • @redbelt12

    what 4

  • @vuotopiuscuro 4 its pure awesomeness.

  • @redbelt12

so how could U push replay right now?

    ,-)

  • wow i would hate playing with someone like sylvain live

  • banal

  • @vuotopiuscuro di' che non ti piace ...ma banale proprio no!!!!

  • @maxxxx1972

    mmm

  • This is like the national anthem of France. I've heard this tune played so much over there.

  • they invented their own language and talk to each other using music

  • Sylvain Luc looks more happy ... i can't understand why

  • Absolute brilliance.

  • Bireli at 2:05 : "LOL at what I'm going to play at 2:09". Bireli at 2:10 : "WOW, harder than I thought". Sylvian at 2:15 : "LOL! You just made a retard face." Bireli at 2:16 : "Don't you dare laugh at me!" And then both pretend like nothing happend ;)

  • Power!!!

Hein? Vilain.

  • awesome und geil.*****

  • The dislike bar is longer than Justin Bieber's dick.

  • birelli seems bored at this point in his career. He gets totally owned by Sylvain here.

  • Sylvain's artificial harmonic part is sick man! Not easy! Bireli is one of the sickest guitarists this planet has ever seen!!

  • As a jazz guitar duo, it doesn't get much better than this. The two complement each other. Real artistry is the ability to dance within the frame of the tune and come up with rhythmic and melodic ideas that are so inventive so original that the form is transended. Not to mention the incredible dialog between these two master musicians. This goes way beyond shreading. There is deep listening and expression. It is done so seamlessly that it becomes magical.

  • can someone give me this ver of tab?

    JK

    it's so beautiful

  • @sakuonist cry baby,

  • It does not make any sense to compare Bireli and Sylvain...Enjoy what they show us...They are the ones who impress me the most in Jazz actually...Fantastic

  • It does not make any sense to compare Bireli and Sylvain...Enjoy what they show us...They are the ones who impress me the most in Jazz actually...Fantastic

  • isn't this lovely?

look at the way they're watching each other from 1:00 to 1:30... they seem in love!

    lol

  • It's not "fucking around". It sounds to me like pretty serious improvisation. I do it myself.

  • bireli looks a little jeaolus, and he should be.

HenkJovialusDikkus, i think the sound that sylvain extracts from his guitar is one of the best sounds in the planet, not only the guitar

  • @castillopetruzzi True, true. The guitar is beautiful, and Sylvain Luc just makes it more awesome. Brilliant.

  • sylvain is just incredible

i like him better than bireli his phrasing is something else

  • Unbelievably beautiful, the sound of guitars are unmistakebly one of the best sounds on the planet.

  • This was just amazing!!

    PoA @ Owatone

  • brilliant, but i think he tries to do a bit too much

  • Bloody Brilliant

  • Oh wow, nice!!! :)

  • Je pleure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • both were gorgeous....

but personally I choose Sylvain ... especially in the intro .. majestic !

  • I love his sound with the floating PU more thank the fullsized hummbi

  • some amazing playing! Bireli dresses like he's at a Yankee game.

  • Amazing..... thats the shit damn!

  • Qué barbaridad... cuando sea mayor quiero tocar así (jijijijiji) ;-)

    Saludos!

  • I bet if you set a metronome up at the begining to the beat these got it would stick throughout. Or a click trac even with all that syncopation and lighting fast arpegios they swing all the way.

  • If people want to be that picky about it then the slight blemish of a tiny unclear note from Bireli was at 2:33 not 2:32. ;) Great playing from two great guitarists. I like Bireli on acoustic more though. But thats just a personal preference.

  • @greggzccfclfc Those are octaves with palm muting, that's the trick ;)

  • 2:32 Incredible! Bireli making a mistake, now that's very unusual! :)

  • @Dedalusalley that was not a mistake

  • @asxefv Mmh...I think it is actually :)

  • Oh hell no! Uh... wow *claps jaw shut*

  • You know, I like Bireli Langrene's tone a lot better than Pat Metheny's.

  • Oh my GOD!! those harmonics are killing me... i need an inhaler!

  • if you like this guitar sound listen to the 1979 live in san fransisco with paco de lucia -john mc laughin and aldi meola my favorite album

  • @MrGoonerforlife Al DiMeola

  • Luc has a very strange sound....

  • damn!....GREAT GUITARIST!...

  • Art at its best....................breathless!!

  • I appreciate karrowarro02's remark, but have to say.. 'fucking around' is all of what jazz is about. Improvisation. The song is a framework that you can begin with and end with, but from there, take it anywhere you want... the more fucked around with, the more jazzy, some might even say. Again, with all respect. I understand the desire to honor the original song too.

  • I agree too, although I think Sylvain's "fucking around" is wonderful.

  • @davidos90

    I wouldn't call it " fuckin' around " :

You can fuck around with a woman, but with music you're trying to express what you got inside. They both know that they could play much less & be more simple but they like it that way.

By the way, I think they are both great musicians, rare to find in these times & I do respect them totally.

  • @riebling27 in this case i can say only this :this is fuckin so original for itself.

  • Sylvain is so incredibly good, I can't help but laugh sometimes. Endless musicality.

  • check out birelis outfit! haha

  • bliss

  • great

  • F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!!!

  • I've heard the original version of these two playing this song, and it's really beautiful. However here it seems to me like they're fucking around too much, especially Sylvain, and really taking the essence out of the song. No offense to them...it just seems that way to me.

  • When you're that good, you can afford to fuck around.

  • if this is when they fuck around, i want to see a porn of them ^^

  • I have the album a classic france can produce some great stuff

  • this song brings me to tears reminds me of the day my babygirl was born great rendition graz

  • Please Bireli play with Govan .

    Beautiful, beautiful. 5 out o 5 .

  • bellissimo arrodugò

  • beautifullllllllllllllll!!!!!

  • What a sick performance...

  • oh my...........::DDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • sylvain luc looks just like chandler from friends!! how funnys that. awesome playing, its a bit off an ego battle tho!

  • reminds me of those drum battles between krupa and rich. love when 2 giants like these get together and... fire up the room

  • Good technique!

  • what kind of guitar is sylvain playing?

  • Godin A series

  • The look in 5:12 ...

looks like "..hope he´ll finish soon..." So funny

By the way: Great solos from both, love it !!

  • Yeah, he does another one at 6:04 haha.

  • very nice bireli lagrene is the best!!!!!!!!

  • wow great version of a awesome tune!

  • Gypsy + Basque =

  • i.m horny

  • Amazing guitar duo!!!

  • Love the look bireli gives at 6:04- and what hes wearing

fucing amazing though, and Sylvain Luc is incredible- what is he doing though in the first part of his solo, its like some sort of slap guitar thing creating constant harmonics, anyone know? it sounds so cool

  • yes just slap the note you want an octave above. its actaually really easy

  • id like to see you demonstrate lol

  • masssaaam d ++++++

  • I just knew that S. Luc played a Godin when i heard this album :p

  • ..."And the crowd goes wild"!

  • semplicemente fantastici!!wow....

  • this is amazing!!!

  • Confuzzelment? Superb deconstruction of the english language! I'll be sure to give you credit next time I use it in conversation...

  • yeah pretty sure bireli got owned on this one

  • his super 400 sounds way better though

  • yeah, but the super 400 costs about 3 times as much as the godin though.... lol

  • a valid statement sir\

  • the sound is in the musicians hand...

  • Big time difference in tone. Especially when the Godon needs to back up the Gibson it VANISHES poof. Great musicians though, wow. ..

  • quite for sure!

  • petelice nehorazna suprove zahrany kluci

  • Super, je suis fan.

Dans un autre genre, mais à découvrir, car multitalent exceptionnel: Thom Wei.

Cherchez-le sur Youtube. Vaut le détour.

  • This is great playing!

  • Music is diverse, and I acknowledge diversity. But I say, with the spirit of a radical, Jazz is the Ultimate Form of Music! All other styles are but children under it. If you know jazz, you can easily adapt to other styles.

  • listen to dusan bogdonovic and hear the synthesis and mastery of that musical language. everyone has something to learn from the world at large. even the best jazz musician knows this.

  • really? so is it possible to take a rock song and "jazzify" it so to speak? that is if you wanted to i mean lol

  • Dude, its possible to jazzify virtually any song, so to speak, and it would still make tones of sense to the musically eared.

  • original one is not rock music, is soul music, that's the wonderful thing about music, you are free to express yourself

  • are you saying this is rock?

  • Sylvain Luc is killer on this ,.,.. an check his phrasing and note choice!

  • Sylvain is so incredibly amazing, it boggles my mind.

  • ... nice ...

    thanks for posting

  • This shit is awesome.

  • your shit is awesome.... wait....

  • haha thanks dude. You a hawkeye fan? Go hawks!

  • Haha o yeah... HI alex.

  • Crap I suck so much, I'm stying to do an instrumental version for this, but as there are no tabs I'm looking and seeing how all these people do it.. And here I've been absolutely confuzzled... the simplest parts have soo much stuff in them, making them sound so darn amazing, and so unreachable...haha

    Absolutely brilliant!

  • Learn music dude.

    TAB is like training wheels

  • Part of that is the genius of Stevie Wonder. He never stays in one key signature for very long, sometimes changing with every beat within a single bar of his compositions. And then you add the improvisation that is jazz, and voila! "Confuzzlement" for us rookies.

  • this video never gets old. thanks for the upload!

  • Oh, and I swear that's the first time I've heard a guitarist frailing like an old-timey banjo player! Very cool.

  • Insane. Luc is my hero. Nothing like making something incredibly hard look AND SOUND effortless. Personally, I don't care what either of them look like; close you eyes and listen!

  • Made me laugh. But I do agree about the speed a bit. But he makes up for it all. Just listen to 4:06

  • At about the 7 minute point Birelli plays chord melodies, great moment.

  • did they ever put this down on wax?

  • masterful acoustic version.

  • OH MY GOD thank u so much for uploading this again!!! whoo this made my night.. now i cant sleep and it's already 1am.. not good.. but thank u! Sylvain killed it!!!

  • My Pleasure! By the way I like your music! And the video of you jamming! Brilliant stuff

  • I love the chord substitution that Sylvain did at 2:05. Just great!

  • I know I'm not the first to say it, but I was gutted when this disappeared from the site (and my favourites list) a few months ago. Big thanks for re-uploading it :-)

As to the playing, what's to say? I'm a big Bireli Lagrene fan, but for me it's Sylvain Luc's amazing rhythm playing that really makes this track. Right from the start, you just know it's gonna be a winner. Awesome!

  • absolutley in love with it.

  • Are You kidding Me? Geeze! That is incredible!!!

  • Professional

  • The melody is just perfect.
