This concept of "people shouldn't've to work" is stupidest & yet the most appealing thing powerful people want to sell to the masses. Its alright to say that technology helps humans shift to more productive work but saying that "humans wouldn't've to work" is a call for elitist since some people will still have to work & make & control the technology so they'll rule over the rest who aren't working.
@lomocan you monkeys don't have to do a darn thing unless you want to. We can do it so much better ^_^ Personally I wouldn't want to be in charge of herding you apes around :D
"The question is. Who will the robots be working for?"
The Zeitgeist masters will run the show, they're no more trustworthy than those who control things now; its naive to think that Zeitgeisters are any more "altruistic" than anyone else; they're just another face the Elite, giving us lots of truth mixed with lies, as they say, propaganda is 95% truth otherwise it won't sell.
I say have robots only to tend to your house, clean it up, give you recommendations of what you need to fix or upgrade your house. Let us just focus on having a good time and our career and the robots do the maid jobs.
Eventually humans will enhance to the point where they won't get fat - or sick/old for that matter. Instead of working for their survival, people will spend that time doing things they are passionate about (sports, arts, etc, which has the added bonus of preventing most crappy knockoff movies, albums and games from getting released since the concept of currency will likely disappear). I don't see humanity as a whole succumbing to boredom.
What a wonderfull future. We dont have to work anymore. I can allready imagine how everybody would eventually get bored, lazy and fat. So terribly fat that the human species dies out because of to much weight.
