  • There is not such a monastic group in ORTHODOX-CHURCH ...After the schism of 1054 all other churches which they were separated from the Orthodox(Catholic-Apostolic) Church of the Eastern Roman Empire ,became Heretics

  • They are Catholic, yes. They are a Byzantine order of Discalced Carmelites.

  • Tell me about this community. Are they with Rome. The music is so beautiful.

  • Monasticism is its own vocation. There are multiple forms in both the East and the West. Carmelites are an ancient grouping with roots in the West, but still anchored in the East. The lifestyle of the community is obviously influenced by the culture of the men and women who receive the vocation. If you're baptized, ask for their prayers. If you're not, they will pray for you anyway.

Remember that the core is the Gospel and Christ, not some 'holy' externals.

  • They should leave the Carmelite order and adopt traditional Byzantine monasticism.

  • @johnross12

    Why?

  • love the Tabernacle...God Bless them...may they be a route to full unity of East and West

  • Because they're Carmelites.

  • So why don't we actually SEE the Carmelites?

  • carmelites are a contemplative community, they're within their walls, they don't show themselves except to certain people like the priest at Communion, or while talking with a visitor, and they do so behind bars, or some sort of border between them!

  • Incredibly good.

  • An Eastern Catholic Carmelite? Never heard of such a thing.

  • Some say this is returning to their roots, seeing as they were founded by the Prophet Elijah.

  • they have Carmelites in Lebanon

  • @dacatholicbandorgan Uniates . As long as you have the Pope you can claim to be what ever you want.

  • This is true and, I fear, a result of the Revised Divine Liturgy. I myself am not Ruthenian.

  • THe iconography is beautiful. However, while well done, the choral arrangement of the Carpatho-Russian/Rusyn prostopenije is not true to the traditional chant tones.

  • Furthermore, the liturgy was arranged for the Byzantine Carmelites (the first of their kind) by mother Marija of this community and Archimandrite Taft, SJ
