The camera man was following one of the other competitors when The Galloping Ghost crashed just behind it. He can't go back in time and change which plane he was filming.

no, if you look at all the pictures and videos, he was not in control of the plane. He did place a mayday call they say,but i am sure he went unconsious soon after. he was not seen in the cockpit and it is obvious he was full throttle in the air then down to the ground.

It's videos like this that get sent in to authorities and higher ups so they can study what happened from the carnage or from a crash or from every angle possible when an accident occurs so they can better learn how to prevent it next time based on what is shown to be happening. Not to mention it helps authorities and whoever else figure out what actually happened, since all anyone really sees is the aftermath.

He passed out. He had no control of the craft. In one photo you can see he is not present in the cockpit. It was a matter excessive of G forces, or a health condition. Nevertheless, it is a tragedy. Condolences to all that perished, and best wishes to all the families involved.

@Nospoonzz Actually, he was conscious. That's the only reason why that P51 didn't hit the main crowd, because he piloted the aircraft as best he could away from most of the crowd.

@cosmicspooky i think the panning of the cameras is moreover just their instinctive knee-jerk reaction to duck or something and are trying to focus on the present danger instead of their cameras focusing on a subject. Though to those more experienced with camera handling, it also could be a conscious effort to pan the camera down so as not to video tape something horrific if they have moral inhibitions to filming something like that. Either way it's a sad event regardless of the angle. :/
