By definition goaltending is when a player touches the ball when it is already going down. That looked too close to its peak to actually call. Refs usually don't make those calls because its really 50/50. They usually only make the really obvious ones

that doesn't make any sense... every shot has arc unless you release it from 10 feet and make it go straight perfectly... lol.... and that was clearly a goaltend but not called... and so according to your logic everytime someone gets hit on a shot and its not called means that it wasn't a foul? or when a 3 second is not seen or a travel isn't called or a carrying is not called doesn't mean it didn't happen...

If Kobe makes a buzzer beating basket but the refs for some wild reason wave it off, sure he still made it, but it's no longer a game winning basket. The refs decide what happens. On a foul, you can say hey there was enough contact that it should have been called...but if its not called...NO FOUL

referees always make mistakes because they are human which means they have human error... i know because i ref and get a bunch of cry babies telling me to watch this and watch that and its not that easy... on a play like this i would first be watching to see how long he was in the paint, then see if he is gaining position correctly, then seeing if the defender is fouling on the entry and on the shot then after the shot's up and kobe comes flying in, its hard to see when he jumped and the timing.
