Skip has to do with solar disturbances on the surface of the sun, which effect earth's atmosphere and allow radio signals to travel hundreds or thousands of miles with relatively low power. CBer's and Hams love to "shoot skip", or make long distance contacts with operators all over the USA and internationally as well
