No the French were there (in settlements) long before the English. Then the English moved in and aided by Scots, eventually took over. When I say "there" I refer to the French colonies which at their peak reached all the way from Tadoussac, Quebec, Ville Marie (Montreal today) to Detroit and then down to New Orleans.
Nice try buddy. but you're wrong. The Scotts settled last long after the Britts. the french came soon after the Britts (hence Acadia) then the Scotts long after. theres a little history for the idiot who knows nothing about the province they're from... and by the way, the Scotts settled in Cape Breton then slowly moved into the main parts of the province. so get ur facts straight!

I'm against non Scots abusing our culture is general.
The bagpipes, the kilt and tartan belong and represent Scotland, not Canada, America, Europe or Ireland. You need to celebrate your own fucking culture!
I respect that the majority of Canadian's originate from Scotland, but their not Scottish, so stop abusing our culture with your shit skills with the pipes.
Here's a headline for you chad. In the last 20 years at the Worlds, 12 times the winning pipe band was either from N.Ireland, Australia or CANADA. 6x Field Marshall Montgomery, 5x Simon Fraser University, and 1x Victoria Police. I hope you can go to sleep knowing that the current World Champions in the pipe band world are from Canada!
Just to let you know, the majority of the Canadians are of British origins. The Scots are the third largest ethnic group in Canada, but represent the largest single ethic group in Nova Scotia.
The kilt and tartan represent the clans and families of Scotland, so therefore those with the family name such as MacDonald has every right to wear the tartan and kilt of the their ancestors.
Canada does celebrate its various cultures from all our heritages European, Asian, African etc...
did it cross your mind that many people like myself was born in scotland have lived in canada and the usa love to hear pipes and drums i dont think we are abusing the scottish culture rather we are honouring and embracing it so relax

Let me know, please ! Paris PB might visit Halifax in 2010 ... Lou DAWSON who lives there, now, Is a great Friend of the Band . Thanks a lot ! Regards to the Band . Paris and District are competing at the British (Grade 4) next june. Tapadh leibh agus ... Slainte !
Have a look at the book, "The Piper in Peace and War", page 217 onward, and you can read about the Highland regiments in Canada and how they "pretend" to be Scottish. While you are at it you can learn how they kicked ass all the way across Europe, often alongside their Scottish counterparts.
Hey! What is the name of the bagpipe piece that is synonymous to Scotland? A piper lead the athletes' procession from Nova Scotia at the Canada Games (I was a Manitoba athlete) and he played a bagpipe solo piece that we hear often but I cannot name... You might know what I'm talking about....
12 Wing Shearwater P&D, 14 Wing Greenwood P&D, Atlantic Region Tri-Service Cadet P&D, Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo/Black Watch Association P&D, P&D of 7th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, Edinburgh UOTC P&D, and several pipers from other Canadian Regiments attached.

It was named Nova Scotia because the vast majority of people living their were Scots, or originated from Scotland.
