ok ... a little late in posting but just saw this vid. a few things .. although not required in this cover, how do you reach those cymbals in the "back forty" comfortably when you do? secondly, great job .. simple beat but you did it great ... no flubs;) Thirdly, i guess looking at a wall is not that great. Basement?
dude holy shit i love ur cymbals A customs are a bit outta my price range but otherwise something along that lines u got any advice for cymbals i have a mix between a zildjian pitch black, zbt's, sabian chopper, all i need is a ride any tips? anyone?! and a china cymbal included in the new one sooo if any one could help thatd be great
i love the a custom crashes, i have 3 of them on my kit and imo they are the best sounding cymbals on there, they sound better then the sabian aax crashes i used to have
can you make just a drum track we know what the song sounds like.... just like every other drum cover. can you re-do it without the guitar, vocals, and bass in the background. i wanna remix this on audacity
@littletinman This is just a hobby, I'm pretty busy so I don't make vids often. This one is over a year old, so I no longer have the file in garage band. All I would need to do is delete the MP3, and I doubt I'm going to go back and re-record this. I'd rather take that time on a new song.
@mittensmonk The ZBT's are a beginner cymbals, They are sheet bronze A Customs are cast bronze. You'll see a big difference in price. I'd go to a local shop and hit a few to hear for yourself when deciding what to get. buy whatever sounds good to you. You can also check out Zildjian online to get a rundown of their different cymbal lines and descriptions
@mittensmonk Ive been a drummer for 1 year and ive got ZBT they soundo great and are cheap in US( i live in Argentina where they are very expensive any brand but i bought them inUs) but you cant compare them with A custom couse though they are more expensive they sound awsome but if you are kinda short of money i reccomend Zbt they sound great and are durable and cheaper but if you can afford A custom buy A custom or K custom sound great too!
Pretty good. U gotta hit ur cymbals harder man. Just kill em. I envy ur set. It's really nice. Nxt time u make a drum cover don't play the song as loud. The vid should focus on ur playing (if wat I'm sayin makes any sense to u)
Why are you people saying he needs to hit his cymbals harder? This isn't a fast heavy song. There is no need to hit the cymbals so hard, it would ruin the essence of the song and make it louder than necessary. It's a beautiful song, not meant for loud playing.
On a different subject, this was a spectacular video. Couldn't have imagined any better. You have an amazing kit, and I would love one myself.
No mic's, i just run the vid through garage band and tweak it using a treble reducer to set the cymbals back, then I pull up a little mids and little low end to fatten up the kick and snare. I still have to tune the toms right because if there is any pitch bend I can't do anything with it in the program.
hey halodrummer09 i no wat ur problem is first of all go get sum coated drum covers i recomened aquarian and also the bottom of ur toms and tenner losen em up to were u can push ur thumb into it and it should push a inch in
Great, The higher I tune it the louder and more crack I get out of it. It's a versitle snare that's good for all styles of music. Thanks for the comment!
I love the Paiste signature series, I just tend to crack them so I tried A customs. If Paiste were a little more durable they probably wouldn't sound as good as they do, so there is my dilema. Thanks for the comment!
yes, this is the best ive seen. heads are set to get this nice sound...its nt by accident. award for shinyest cymbals...nice tempo...flawless bt i dont knw shit abt drums...nvr played.
Your talking about the first 8th note @ :21 I'm guessing. The next measure is real simple it's a 16th and 8th 1E&A 2& It is snare, tom, kick, kick, snare, crash . Your hands are doing 2 8th notes with the kicks after the tom and on the crash. That's the fill then another crash. I use the single pedal slide technique to get the doubles on the kick. Hope that helps you out
What brand and type of drum heads are you using in this video. LOVE the cymbals! I grew up with Zildjians with my Ludwig drumset in the 70's and 80's. Had to sell them because of the high cost of my divorce lawyer in 1991. Now I have a Tama with Sabian but planning to buy a set of Zildjian A Custom Series soon. I love their true sounds of real cymbals. Sabian has a different pitch and sound different than Zildjian.
All Evans heads... Tom batters are EC2, Reso are G1 clears. Emad Kick batter, Snare batter is ST Dry, 300 reso, Also have O rings on all the drums including the snare. Sorry to hear you had to sell a 70's Ludwig, you don't get to run into those kits very often. I do love the A-customs but I started getting some Meinl MB20's for a little something different.
I have those Meinl cymbals as part of a package deal from the music store. They are not bad at all. The only problem with them is that they sound "too soft" when hitting them. You can't really hear the "open" crashing sound like Sabian or Zildjian when you hit the crash cymbals. I use them for blues/jazz music instead of Hard rock and Heavy Metal like AC/DC or Led Zep or Iron Madien or Van Halen. ROCK!
Yea, I hear ya. Thats why I was planing on bzyance crashes instead of MB20. I really liked the ride and HH. I plan on mixing it up with Meinl. Thanks for the comment, you confirmed what I was thinking about when considering what crashes to go with.
Hey! I need help! How did you get your heads tuned up like that. I just bought some new Evans EC2 to replace Remo Pinstripes and couldn't get the sounds like yours....even with the rings too! They are all too high. any suggestions????
Well, there is a lot that goes into it.. The bubinga shells are dark, I start by tuning the bottom head about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn past finger tight. Then tune the top head to the same pitch. I also try to hit a pitch that matches the shell so it resonates well. After I find the pitch I adjust the bottom head to eliminate pitch bend I let the rings and the EC2's take care of overtones. "SEATING" heads is important!! search for the drum tuning bible online on how to seat heads correctly. Rock on!
I seat the heads for at least 24 hours but I try to change heads when I'm busy and won't be drumming so they seat even longer. They stay in tune longer, and they sound completely different if seated right. If they are seated wrong they won't ever get a good sound. The omni-tune makes it a lot eaiser to fine tune also.
Thx, These were the first A customs I tried, I used to play paiste sig. series which sound awesome but are too fragile for me. Now I'm starting a Meinl collection, after all my years playing I've never tried sabian... maybe they will be next who knows?? which sabian's do you like best?
Buy Pulse from MF for $10! I bought 2 bricks of 24 ROCK drumsticks! I use them for hard rock and metal stuff. I use 5A or 5B, depending on what brand, on lighter rock songs like this one because of the better (flexable) snapping sound than pounding sound of heavy metal. ROCK!!!
hmmm never added it up before...If my memory is correct the kick 10 12 and 14 were about 3G the snare was around 500-550 the 8" was 400 and some change and a customs were (I think) 600 for the ride HH and 16" the 15 was prob around 130 the 17 was prob 150 the zil-bel was 90 and the china was prob 175 with about 100 a piece for the 3 splashes and 300 or so for the rack, add in the cymbal arms and clamps and you around 6000 (est.)
maybe its just me, but every time you hit the snare your stick ends up near the rim like your swiping from left to right kinda, might wanna fix that habit
Lol Thanks! Loaded? noooo It took a while to collect them all. The kit too seemed like forever, and now I'm going through it all again trying to build a Meinl MB20 and MB10 brilliant set up for the Yamaha.
MB20's are great! Got a few of them myself and they sound pretty good! Btw man, in the next vid you're gonna record, could u do me a huge favor? I can't decide wether to buy a SC Bubinga or a SC Bubinga Omni-tune and u can't really tell the sound from your kit apart from the track so maybe at the end of a song could u just do some soloing around on the toms and perhaps play each tom seperately so I can really hear 'em? Would appreciate it lots!
I will but no promises when the next vid will be I'm usually busy as @#%$ and do these when I have a good run of free time. I kind of have a small bit of what your talking about in the saliva vid at the end...but it ain't much.
