  • love 0:55 to 1:15

  • I like the songs, just not a huge fan of Charlie's voice tbh. I feel LaBrie fits DT much better. Would love to see a rerecording of this album with LaBrie on vocals. It's not even that Charlie's voice is bad, it's actually pretty good, but like I said earlier I just don't think it fits DT's style.

  • This is their best album.

  • Lyrics by Kevin Moore! :)

  • influenced clearly from RUSH style. Great!

  • what is this new "reaction" thing? testing right now

  • Excellent intro... We must also insist that this was the kind of work that actually projected DT as a legendary band, not the stuff they've been making almost since 2004 or so

  • @elcaballodecaligula Octavarium is good, Systematic Chaos is okay! and black clouds is awesome! what are you talking about?

  • @elcaballodecaligula what's your problem? o.o

  • @elcaballodecaligula Not true. This album was hailed as very mediocre by the progressive community, and it was not until Images and Words that DT got to be the powerhouse of progressive that they still are. Some good songs on this album though.

  • @evilgenius7193 I am sorry but this album rocks as much as IAW, not mediocre dude, just listen to this song ;)

  • These lyrics are absolutely incredible. Only Kevin Moore is capable of such magic.

  • With every rising sun that yields no sight of land

the hesitation cultivates within the tired man

    and rumors spread of mutiny

and though the time will come when dream and day unite

tonight the only consolation causing him to fight

    is fearless faith in destiny

  • A father's benediction as his hopeful son departs

to brave the sea of rage and conquer at all costs

    lingers in his memory

and visions still surviving in a logic-proof shell

that should have been held sacred, safe and hidden well

    are compromised in usury

  • Kudos for Kevin.

  • My favourite Dream Theater song!

  • best DT guitar solo - 'best of times'... best keyboard solo... this song by a mile!!!

  • This album is just as good as Images and Words!

It just holds a different vibe and feeling, but come on this album sounds so unique!

    horribly underrated!

  • im glad i decided to listen to this album first before the others, its SO GOOD.

  • @MrViolatoras etsiiii aderfe, mpravo !!

  • i like this guys vocals better than la brie... seriously.

  • YEEEEEAH !! It's just a Matter Of Time !!

    Epic !!

  • I agree, it's so underrated, but I like it so much, the same as I&W and Awake ;)

  • This album is criminally underrated. I don't mind the production quality at all, and I think Dominici's vocals fit this music a lot better than James's vocals fit on some of the more recent stuff like Train of Thought or Systematic Chaos

  • @EpsilonX why do people hate this album, is beyond me.

  • The Incredible Dream Theatre!!!!

  • Haven't listened to this in 10 years. Great song.

  • This sounds better with Dominici on vocals rather than LaBrie, which is probably why most people are not familiar with it. It seems that most fans ignore the pre-LaBrie era, and that's really a shame because they did good things (except for the fact that the whole album sounds like it was recorded in a basement :( I wish they would remaster it)

  • @jollino And the lyrics, in case anybody had a shade of doubt, are by Kevin J. Moore. That guy is a POET, all the best lyrics were his

  • I love this album, even as much as Images and words, and Awake. Its so sad people ignore is so much. Its puts their new stuff to shame.

  • @Phoenix87x i know, right?

  • H U G E sounding! This album blew me away when it debuted and got it on LP! And again, great insight on what its like to try to get a Label to take you seriously :'( Dominici was and is a great vocalist :) I hope DT really does take a break and I hope Mike Portnoy comes back, he really nurtured, took care of the fans, supplied us with "bootlegs" and then took care of the Biz end of things and then . . . . played drums, no-one seems to appreciate all he's done :'( -MAVIII

  • I wish this album had better production. Some of the songs (like this one) are too damn good to not sound at their best potential. Still a great representation of their early years though.

  • This is possibly Dream Theater's best album. It's too bad it is so underrated and overlooked, just because it was horridly produced.

  • @xXSTFDXx I don't hear that. I hear a band that loves what they play and are really good at it. Amazing album. I think their best.

  • Anyone else ever type this song as "Only A Matter of Tiem" and then start thinking about "A Change of Seasons?"

  • the hole album is epic! there are new bands trying to walk this foodsteps and they try well, but THIS is the best - and when you see the date it was recordet it is even better!

  • This is the best song Dream Theater has ever made. I can not believe the low recognition it has recieved.

  • This entire album is underrated among DT fans all over. Sure, it's strange to hear somebody besides James singing for them, but the music and style of this album are incredibly good.

  • I was introduced first to DT with Labrie and so was hesistant to listen to their first album. I prefer Labrie but like everything Dream Theater, this kicks ass! And that includes the singer.

  • Only a Matter of Time, 6:00, Pull me under, Wait for sleep, Light Fuse and Get away, Space Dye Vest........Kevin Moore is a genius. But I bet he is a crazy sum'bitch, only kinds of people who write this good are really sensitive, or very crazy.

  • @CavemanJesus4Life Have you listened to chromakey at all??

  • 3 of the best keyboard solos ever written for a progressive track are gathered here,in that song. Especialy the last one in 5.04. Pure genius.

Even Jordan has way to go....:-) :-).

  • listen to this on my long runs and at the gym. sometimes just makes me want to go home and jam it out.

  • 3:10 - 3:42 is the DIRRRTIEST part of the song this song is tight, i heard it today in class after not hearing it for a couple of years n realized this is a dank song, as is the rest of their first album

  • this song is extremely underrated, just listen to the ending, effin epic

  • This song is so freaking epic ...

  • john arch would of done better my opinion

  • my favorite fro dream theater its an awesome pump up song.

  • I really enjoy this song, very different from their other songs

  • I have to say the keyboards on this song really make it shine -- though I have to admit I probably like the sound Jordan used for the bridge in the middle of the song, on the "Budokan" live version. (I'm a sucker for the vocal-esque patches.)

  • i love this song!

  • What the hell is it that makes that sound in the first few bars on the back beats? Sounds like a pissed-off china cymbal.

  • hail john petrucci

  • lol! I was thinkin', doesn't the intro of this song kinda sound like "The Terminator" theme song? Or maybe it's just my nerdy impression... Oh well, still, the WHOLE song is stinking AWESOME!

  • Great music, great lyrics, mediocre vocalist.

I mean no offense. I love Dream Theater, but comparing Charlie Dominici to James LaBrie is no contest. I've been spoiled by you, James.

When Dream And Day Unite is just a peg under everything else, in my opinion, only vocally.

  • funny you mention great lyrics its makes me miss kevin moore he really had a interesting writting style

  • I think between "Only a Matter of Time" and "Space-Dye Vest" Kevin Moore wrote some underrated Dream Theater tracks.

  • i totally agree

  • Kevin Moore wrote "Pull Me Under", which happens to be a Dream Theater favorite. It was obvious John P. liked working with him in the early days. Very Underrated songwriter.

  • I think "Pull Me Under" while a huge song, is extremely overrated. Kevin Moore wrote some great songs with and without Dream Theater.

  • "Pull Me Under" is not overrated IMO...what is overrated is calling other Prog bands a comparison to this band when they have never once put out songs that are in fact this catchy and powerful. Kevin Moore is a great writer. It's extremely overrated to you probably because so many people liked it. It's rated fairly as a great song as it should be. I don't think it got any more publicity then it deserved in 1992. What do you think?

  • My favourite song on the album. I love the feeling behind this song. Very 90's Castlevania-ish if you get me. :P

  • great song... horrible quality lol

  • I know, for some reason Portnoy is vehemently against re-mastering or re-recording

  • I said that that this singer sounds like Geedy Lee on another vid. You sir have hit the nail on the head with that comment.

  • Very underrated song!

  • he kinda sounds like Geddy Lee

  • i like this guy's voice, LaBrie's cool too but for this song i think this guy's voice fits

his name is Charlie Dominici right?

  • Yes

  • A very good song

  • but The Glass Prison is best :D

  • the glass prison, space dye vest, a change of seasons, metropolises, ytse jam, octavarium, 6DOIT are the best! sorry if i forgot any othe songs

  • ministry of lost souls? I love that song!

  • status seeker, I think it`s an incredible underrated DT song

  • The Count of Tuscany :D

  • Theres no best or worst song for DT they are all good

  • Let me rephrase that: There's no best or worst song for DT... they are all AMAZING!!

  • Let me rephrase that: There's no best or worst song for DT... they are all biblically epic!
