  • What's The Audio At 3:51

  • @Sizzleboy11

    That is from Liar's Moon.

  • You missed "The Terminator (1984)"

  • @studmuffin0681

The Terminator was released on the Village Roadshow label, not Roadshow Home Video.

  • I saw the trailer for "Swedish Wives Exchange Club" *years* ago, but never actually saw the movie. I think Garen Daly screened the trailer during one of his film marathons

  • I remember seeing the trailer for "Swedish Wife Exchange Club" in a theater *years* ago, but I've never seen the actual movie.

  • What's The Sound At 2:22

  • @Sizzleboy11

That is from the Australian movie The Dark Room.

  • Thanks, AR - I was hoping you would compile a list of those classic Roadshow titles. You've opened my eyes as to how many there are! Unfortunately I don't have as many of those Roadshow cassettes as I thought I did - I only have about 50. I do have quite a few Palace titles, and also many 1985 Roadshows with the V logo (they retained the same font for the spine-titles though, so to the naked eye they look like they're early Roadshows - especially when video store stickers obscure the V logo).

  • When I was compiling this list it just seemed to go on and on. So 280 is a big ask but I suspect there would be someone in Australia who has them all :)

  • I imagine you'd need to rest up before trying to compile all of the Palace titles. Hint hint. :)

I think I'm going to have to accept that I've fallen way short of owning even half of those classic Roadshow videos. Actually, in lieu of actually having all the videos, I'd love to have a coffee table book compiling all the sleeve artwork. I've seen a book of British video nasty covers and it made me think how cool it would be if there was a similar book for the classic Roadshow sleeves.

  • There used to be a website that allowed people to upload scans of their Aussie VHS covers, but it no longer exists now.

I did compile a list of *early* (ie. label at the top) Palace Explosives, and listed it on part 2 of an update I did on that label. I could probably list their Academy and Family titles, and maybe even the general Films label, but Vibrant and Palace X would be a bit too difficult as I simply don't know them.

  • You might know - what was the criterion for Roadshow issuing titles under the Palace banner(s) as opposed to Roadshow? Was it just a case of, films released by some certain studios were Roadshow titles, and films released by other certain studios were Palace titles?

For that matter, are there any films that were released under both labels? I could swear that I've seen the trailer for The Rutles pop up on both Roadshow and Palace videos, which makes me think it was released under both labels.

  • Never seen The Rutles on a Palace tape. The main Roadshow to Palace cross over occurred on the Vibrant label. Many old Roadshows were re-released on Palace, though Palace were the first to release the X-rated version of Insatiable.

Village Roadshow owned a part of Palace, along with Blake Films & a guy called Tony Zeccola. In 1985 Tony bought Palace outright, but prior to that Roadshow tended to put their less 'mainstream' releases on the Palace label.

  • Yeah, and Caligula was released under the Roadshow and the Palace X label...

That's annoying me now about The Rutles. I could rummage through the Palace cassettes in my collection to see if I can find the trailer, but I think it's likely that I saw the trailer on a Palace video I rented rather than bought.

  • Great list! There's some great titles here.

I've got Turkey Shoot and Next of Kin on VHS, plus I've also got Naked Fist, Blood for Dracula, Kill Squad and Chained Heat on Beta, not all in their original cases but it's a start.

  • Yep that's a good start! Gotta start somewhere. Some titles are much rare than others of course.

  • Mmmm....Matinee Hookers!

  • aw thanks aussie, *christmas hugz* and all that soppy shit. Wow two endings though! how very futuristic

  • *coughs up a bit of vomit* oh you are so very welcome. And don't forget, Jesus loves you.

  • Dunno where I found it but I have Hysterical possibly in its original case.

    Have not watched it yet.

  • Hi Aussie, do you own a copy of Hysterical? I watched that movie so many times i even remember the previews like "break of day"

  • Hysterical is one I actually don't have at this stage. Never saw that film either.

Glad I'm not the only one who watched Roadshows over and over! I frickin wore out Cujo, Crimes of Passion and Scanners back in the day!!

  • Hysterical is a bit of an "acquired taste". I seen on it amazon for sale dvd for $50 (!)

Hey whats the deal with the choose your own ending at 3:50

  • Well that would be cheating if I told you :)

But given the Xmas spirit and all... it's a grab from the trailer for Liar's Moon, which had two endings on the tape, which you could fast forward to depending on which ending you wanted.

  • Amazing video Darron, thanks so much for taking the time to finally work out how many were released. its taken thirty odd years but I finally know

of 282 roadshow videos, I have 150. 1 vibrant video too

  • Thanks!

That's a good number of Roadshows you got. I think I might have a similar amount. I've got 14 Vibrant titles, and one day hope to have all of them. Hard to find though, and darn expensive.

  • ah excellent what a list, i appreciate the effort you have gone too. Like you always say the preview logo must be in the right hand corner, and i noticed that there are no publicity stills on the back but shamelss self promotion tends to be older ones.

I really wanna find scanners their 1st ever release..

  • Yes the very early releases always had the previews advice thing in the bottom right hand corner, and didn't start to be placed elsewhere until later on.

I'm beginning to wonder if Scanners was actually the very first release. I might have been Mad Max. I really want to see a cassette with the date stamp on it.

  • My god so many titles! I dont think I've seen any on that list.

  • You might have to live to 120 years old to catch up on so many old classics there!!

  • "Dracula Erotica"?? I haven't heard of that one.

I've only seen the remake of "When A Stranger Calls"....I probably should check out the original.

  • Yeh it took several weeks to compile, but the video itself was easy to make :)

Haven't seen the remake to When a Stranger Calls. Avoiding remakes these days (over them).

Dracula Erotica is an adult film with horror comedy elements. It's actually one of the better films of its type with a good storyline. Known as Dracula Exotica overseas.

  • Awesome video!! That would have taken a shit load of time to compile.

  • Really cool vid, interesting list too, any chance of doing one for the Village Roadshow line as well cause I'd like to see how many were released on that line (although I would exclude the Roadshow Entertainment ones).

Have a nice xmas and go see Avatar.

  • I did this list because I occasionally get asked what all the releases were.

I don't think I could do one for the VR label as there would have been thousands and I simply don't know them all. Either that, or I would mix up VR releases with Applause and Premiere. Too hard basket!!

  • I got: Alligator American Werewolf in London Beat Street Body Rock Caligula Christiane F. (Bowie's Heroes gave it away) Cujo Endless Love Felicity Fritz the Cat Halloween II Hostage Insatiable Joy (?)
  • Mother's Day

    Phantasm (The Never Dead)

Once Upon a Time In America

The Pursuit of DB Cooper (?)

    Rabid

    Scanners

    Sisters

    Venom

  • Three cheers for nesfan111 !!! Looks like most of the Aussie films stumped you (understandably!). The ones with the question mark against them are correct.

Including the ones by binhphan below, there are

6 left for the Vibrant titles

    2 from C to D

    1 from E to G

    2 from H to K

    3 from L to N

    1 from O to R

    3 from S to Z

  • I absolutely knew you were going to comment on this vid!

I suspected that the Love Leads the Way and Savage Sisters releases were a bet each way. The OFLC website lists the latter as a Palace release, and the former as submitted for classification by 'Walter A Granger'.

I'm happy to say that if these two facts were correct, this list would still stand at 282 :)

  • Very handy! Thanks for doing that. Oh and I had a flashback when I heard the Hostage audio clip, hadnt thought of that film in ages!*goes off to check if Aussie has the trailer*

  • No trailer for Hostage here unfortunately. I'd have to trim it of its sex and nudity, such are the ludicrous YT rules these days.

  • Do you own all of those? I only have like 3 :/ Anyways, I got these ones: Alligator An American Werewolf in London Blood Beach(?) Body Rock Caligula Cujo Halloween II Hostage Mother's Day Running on Empty Turkey Shoot Venom
  • That is a list of 12.

Unfortunately I do not own all of these. I just compiled the list because I get asked the 'how many released' question frequently.

  • I mean those are the audio I guessed. I own 3 Roadshow VHS'.

  • Ah I see! My apologies. You are correct, except for Blood Beach. No audio from that flick here.
