@zackrabramo How about they are fucking amazing and I saw them with RX Bandits. How fucking else do you discover new music? I think seeing a band live is probably the best way discover a band. It's better than " Oh I saw this band on American Dad "
I don't know if this is just me but, does anyone else LOVE when you get those awesome surround sound speakers for xmas and you just get to blast cool shit like this!? ugh, i'm melting.... but that's a good thing (;
They put on such a good show on the 23rd.. Last sunday, there such chill people too. I didn't know of them before the Circa show on the 23rd but I'd recommend seeing these guys live if you have the chance.
@killswitchofficial just because there's a shitload of notes and tapping going on doesn't make these guys good. Thomas from tfot can do this but he tones it down and switches it up (he does wank, but not as much as this). The guys from tera melos can do this but they stopped becuase they said they felt like wankers and hacks. And its true. Im glad this band changed their style and matured because this makes them sound like they just learned how to tap well.
When tapping wasn't a commonly practiced method this was awe inspiring.
Now it's old news, so everyone jumped off the band wagon, either entirely, or use it sparingly.
Still good stuff to me, but then again, I don't study music theory or anything else that can sanctify me to judge who is presenting talent and who is not.
There are hardly Guitar cover of Maps and Atlases. Everyone covers The Fall of Troy riffs because they are much more fun to play and catchier. You cannot compare FOT with this.
@Drebin34678 Wish you were in San Diego, or Cali for that matter. Totally would... Not necessarily like?! but definitely an influence. Check youtube.com/rambleandwake. My broken up bands channel. None of the bandmates were willing to work hard enough so I,m solo right now working on some stuff thats a bit more complex. It'll be up soon.
@Drebin34678 id be more than down to collab on this kind of genre. im great at writing deep, flowing lyrics and singing. i can play acoustic and metal-style guitar, bass, and a little drums nothing this damn technical and good though. what do u play?
@1ManArmyOfDisease Dude, the fall of troy is a great band, but I see no comparison. And how the hell is this hipster??? This kind of music is as real as it gets!
@Fenrisulfr529 i feel that the whole song writing style is similar, just the way this bands style is seems like the hipster way. I wasnt tryin to troll, your the first person not to bitch at me.
@1ManArmyOfDisease No worries, man. The only thing that really make them similar is the fact that they are both complex bands. Nothing more. The fall of troy didnt invent musical complexity. And hipsters are deuchebags who think theyre better than everyone else because they like indie stuff and because theyre so different, when in reality all hipsters dresss and act the same. These dudes are very far from that.
nothin gets as awasome as the fall of troy, but I'll tell you why they find them similar: it's MATH ROCK, it includes a high complexity in rithms and it's basicaly guitar experimentation!
@TheWhiteZanate And? Even so, both bands are completely different. The fall of troy is complex hardcore, and this has nothing to do with hardcore. And its way more complex than the fall of troy.
This may be Math Rock but TFoT is a little on the heavier side, and use things such as breakdowns, and all that over-used "HxC" crap; let's just call them both good music; screw all this "how they are/aren't" alike crap, cuz they are both very good; both very different.
@halokillsblackops Really late to reply haha someone prolly beat me to it. But math rock is just really technical pieces that are made into melodic songs like these. Tera Melos is also very math-core ha
They played this at a show last friday in Chicago, I just HAPPENED to have break that week so I was home from Minnesota. I danced so hard to this song... I still have whiplash.
Hey guys, thanks for all the kind words! I'm actually selling my black diamond pearl Slingerland kit on eBay right now. This song has been played live on this kit countless times, so if you're in the market for a vintage set.....
God, tonight they are in Berlin, Festsaal Kreuzberg. Heart them on the radio, instant fan, going there and tomorrow I have to get my ass to school. Ill be so damn dead, totally worth it!
This is the advancement of rock as we know it. This band and many other math rock bands are the reason rock is still alive...period. cause radio rock ie."alternative" is killing the scene in general.. that's why rap is taking over. Just wait til math-rock/prog rockhits the market, done.
@GSarovich yea but then it's gonna start sucking. look @ rap in like the late 80s and early 90s it was fuckin sweet. everything has waves we just have 2 wait till bands like this are cool for a little while b4 they get shitty again and rap turns back to awesome. cyclic fad-following shitheads make this happen. blame mtv and billboard for "rating" music based on it's video.
@GSarovich dude fuck yes!!! i want to hear soft machine, can, and guru guru on the oldies stations. Then some mars volta on modern day rock stations. :) and this on its own station!!
@chasingxsuns It is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), angular melodies, and dissonant chords. I am pretty sure this is the official definition.
@GSarovich My sincerest condolences, Math Rock has actually been dead for about 5 years now. Any math rock you see now is either watered down versions of the sub-genre(such as Battles) or former bands that have greatly strayed away from it (such as Maps and Atlases).
The good news is, is that prog rock did hit the market... in the 70s.
@oredrocozne And is alive and thriving this very day, (prog that is). Unacknowledged by the market... I wish somehting like 'Math rock' would become a popular favorite. Seems unlikely though. (It needs a better label for one thing!) - First I've heard of Maps and Atlases. Pretty good stuff. God bless 'em for trying.
@GSarovich it's been in the "market" for about 40 years. it still has no steady foothold. don't misunderstand. i like it, but saying this is will save the market is horribly incorrect.
