PH is not a combat drill. I consider it a structure, balance, and sensitivity examination and workout. It can inform foundational skills and understanding. It can, IMO, add to any martial artist's abilities. It is also fun.
This is not much good really, pushing hands was intended as a two person subjective zen or chan meditation and neither of theese men have very good technique or posture, pushing hands goes back beyond probably any other so called martial arts, and in fact is not for fighting. to see the reall deal check out pushing hands zen shorin do nathan johnson..or read the book barefoot zen. But i admire theese men they are at least trying, just not been taught the correct way. Peace X
Pushing hands as a combat drill is no better than situp as a combat drill. It is good conditioning for an internal fighter. take a Karate artist and let him use his combat drill against a taichi playing using pushing hands and you would see how much of a combat drill it is. That is why people think that Taichi is not for combat...they watch these cats pushing each other around a cirle like some light weight sumo wrestlers and think that is taichi combat.
I have not one time said I know Taichiquan. Like you I can only speak on that, that I do. Like you, I too know not to piss against the wind. May the rest of your life be better than this.
I see the point you were specifying. The last segment i don't get it. if it's for the purpose of combat training the guy would've lost from the very beggining.
You can only get out what you put in. I put the time in.

Your response reminds me of a quote i read on Tao of Jeet Kune do. About expressing oneself. Couldn't have said it better myself.

For me, combat training is the training. I train to understand me not to win. If and when combat comes, it will be the understanding me, WIN or lose.
