Best Actor of ALL-Time: "The Chameleon"---Daniel Day-Lewis. Just watch "A Room with a View", "My Left Foot", "The Last of the Mohicans", "Gangs of New York", and "There Will Be Blood", back to back to back.
There is no actor alive or dead (well, as far as I know), who becomes the character more fully, and more deeply than he does. There is no one else that acts on the same level as him. He is the master. IMHO. When most people name their favorite actor, they are not going on the talent, they are going on who they like as a person, or at least what they think that actor is like as a person. They are also going on the characters that the actor has played, and conflating the two. Most people
do not know how to properly evaluate what truly good acting is. There is so much to discuss, I could do a dissertation on this subject.
Most actors play the emotions, in a general manner, and not in a way that is specific to the character. Real people express anger, joy, sorrow etc. in their own unique way. Most actors always express these and other emotions in the same way from character to character. They are themselves, playing emotions how they would personally express them,
they just have different dialogue, wardrobe, hairstyles and character situations that give the illusion as though they have some range. Daniel Day-Lewis always expresses emotions differently from character to character, just as different people do. He talks differently, walks differently--he even chews his food differently from character to character. He loses himself in the characters he plays. He becomes that specific individual. To see what I mean,
pick a typical actor and watch a few of their movies in a row, to see how they express a specific emotion from one character to another, and notice how similar it is in the way they do it. Then, do so with Daniel Day-Lewis, and notice how entirley different and unique the expression is, just like the differences in real people. I want to be clear though, I acknowledge there are other fantastic actors out there, but, IMHO, Daniel Day-Lewis is certainly the best--on a level all his own.
As for the remarks about A-list actors, Hollywood is certainly not a meritocracy. Just do a little research and see how many actors have strong connections to the business. So many have parents, aunts, uncles, godparents etc. who came before them. Now, I am not saying that it isn't possible for someone to have a strong connection, AND be talented enough to warrant their success, but not with the frequency of which there are actors who are "successful",
AND have the connections. It's all too obvious that nepotism and cronyism are alive and well in Hollywood, just like everywhere else. It's pretty sad. Even Daniel Day-Lewis had a mother who was an actrees, and his father was a famous poet who was the Poet Laureate of England. It always helps to know someone to get the foot in the door, and maybe stick around a little longer than one should. Well, I have ranted on for far too long. I'll shut up now.
I think that the biggest problem with movies right now is that studios do not take chances anymore. Everything is rehashed a thousand times, and you can guess the plot from a mile away.
Anyway, have you watched "The Machinist"? I just watched it and it is GREAT. And it had to be filmed in Spain because no studio in the US would dare to finance something so different. Also watch "Memento" and "The Game", at least they are different.
she is wrong! an A list actor is someone people enjoy watching. How much talent they actually is almost irrelevent. The talent is decided by the audience, not her or her parents. so she needs to either do something else where people like her, or work her way up there with the stars, but pissing and moaning about it on youtube is a waste of her time, and mine.
i hate when you get films with actors really not meant for the type of role. jack black is a comedy actor and its weird watching him in a straight role like that one hes was in with jude law and cameron diaz. i love ricky gervais but i dont want to see him in a straight role just to sell a film. you can stick to what you do best without typecasting yourself
But it's kinda sad that our best actors are getting old :( I think it'll be hard to find actors to live up to those legends. Your really hot by the way. It was hard to pay attention to what you were saying sometimes but I watched it over :)
I know! Alot of my favorite actors are getting older. Hugh Grant, by the way, I actually saw his new movie Music and Lyrics, and it was sad how wrinkly he looked. But I still ove him to peices.
Some of my favorite actors are like Tom Hanks, Mel Gibson, John Travolta, Nicholas Cage, Jim Carrey and others. They have left behind masterpieces. I have never seen Doctor Who. I watch scrubs though :)
My favourite actor is a she, and she's like the most awesome 'Old' companion in Doctor Who, and that's Elisabeth Sladen.
What a legend.
Oh, and I like Jane Asher and Rupert Greaves. He is FITTT.

I´m agree. We all want Doctor Who. Oh, by the way, your beautiful.

I guess casting based on looks is not a bad thing. It could be your ticket into the business as you are beautiful. Saves you becoming a good actor :)

I agree. It's a shame that more big name actors won't go with a indie movie because of fear of under exposure.
Some actors are good at playing the same sorts of people. Take, Robert Dinero. He plays bastards in lots of his movies. But he's great at it.
This was fun to watch.
