  • schade, dass das beste kriegsbild überhaupt - "der schützengraben" - vernichtet wurde...

  • Otto Dix's art is certainly macabre yet gripping. Certainly one of the best artists ever.

  • Imagine the things Otto Dix saw to put all this in his head! This one at 3:57 has the biggest impact on me. I saw it when I was 16. Those men are alive (so to speak) surrounded by dead bodies, mud and stagnant water. Not allowed to retreat and knowing they will likely be killed by artillery the next day.

War is hell? An understatement if such a thing is possible.

  • what song is this????

  • Les horeurs de la Guerre nous reviennent en pleine tête...

  • Amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • COOL!

  • o3o you painted those? e3o

  • It's beautiful in dark way which isn't really beauty at all, more in that; though it isn't pleasant you want to see it because it intrigues you.

  • These paintings are really unsettling.

Its like im staring death in the face... and its staring back at me

  • my russian friend showed me this guy! hes amazing!

  • Awesome. And the work presented in this vid only scratches the surface. Thanks for posting.

    Peace.

  • Otto Dix is one of the most under appreciated artists of the twentieth century.

  • pleasant

  • anyone know the name of the picture at 1:55?

  • @UKNOWWHOGIVES

maybe it's one of otto dix's work ( almost all these pictures are of otto dix )

  • @UKNOWWHOGIVES It's called "The Madwoman of Sainte-Marie-À-Py"

  • I found 2:3 the most disturbing for some reason..... Gosh war sucks

  • @PeekabooDave Yeah thats a freaky one, the demon child in the trench is pretty scary too.

  • Otto Dix's artwork has fascinated me, ever since I first saw it on display at The Metropolitan Museum Of Art several years ago in an exibit.

  • Saw the pencil signed etchings today at the Neue Gallery, NYC

  • Would be wonderful to see your video uploaded in HD.

  • maestro ha de seguir tu mensaje...tu propuesta artistica.

  • Remarkable!

  • Im learning about WW1 now and i think its horrible. I wish i didnt need to take history.

  • Pretty ghoulish, ain't it?

  • gott mit uns

  • I did my art report on Otto Dix. His work inspires me, and it's so beautiful in so many ways.

  • Muchas gracias por este excelente trabajo. Escalofriante, aterrorizante... es cruda como la guerra.

  • Brilliant work. Even better when you know the philosophy behind it.

  • do you think you could explain him a little bit? I'm doing a project on Otto and it would really help!

  • I love this work and the song matched the show precisely. A great video over all. Well Done!

  • poignant works

  • Brilliant set of pictures by the master Dix...

Nevertheless I was missing his triptych "war" in the video. Just search for "Dix war" on google / images. Outstanding piece of art, too.

  • nice theme

  • Thanks. DAnke. I had not seen many of the paintings in this collection.

  • Incredible arsenal of techniques - far greater than Goya's! The subject matter too - his relating of sex, ugly or not to war psychology, is epoch-breaking: far in advance of Viet Nam or Iraq today! Revolution & Hyperinflation, nightmare psychology, torture, etc. are never mentioned in these "gallery Line-Notes". They should be - help prepare us for what is developing today! It won't be sweetie middle-class "correctness protocols"!

  • I think his paintings go far beyond what is easily understood. There is certainly a part of war where everything becomes so insane from streams of gore, constant shelling, and lack of proper food that your mind goes blank and horror freezes in time. Otto Dix vididly expresses pure horror.

Also, Dix actually fought in two wars. He was a Volksturm conscript in WWII, and he made more paintings afterwards which are even less well-known.

  • if i ever got a band going, i'd like 2 use some of his work as our album cover :)

i think i'd like to use "War Triptych"

  • Really breathtaking!!!!

  • Powerful. Stunning. Heart breaking.

  • Ok.

  • very true... the artwork was fabulous...

  • Queensland Art Gallery has a showing of Otto Dix - now started Nov 7 - wonderful display and guided tour and detailed easy by Mark Henshaw -

His knowledge on Otto Dix was brilliant - entertaining and I learned so much from his intricate detail. Thank You Qld Art Gallery.

  • wow, thank you for making this great collection with such background music...this is a really worthy tribute.

  • Otto Dix is one of my favorite painters. It's hard for me to find people who are familiar with him and his work. Why didn't you include the "Der Krieg" triptych in this montage? I didn't see it. I would venture to call it his masterpiece.

Dix is the only painter I can think of who has captured so eloquently the gruesomeness of war and its psychological after-effects. His work is very easy to understand but far from simple.

  • Все тыриное!

  • Did dix paint the picture of a kokaine addict-poet jumping to his death. In any event, does anybody know the painting I am referring to and what the title of it is?

  • Otto Dix is one of my favourite painter! nice music and fantastic video!

  • I'm told that Dix read two books at the front...the Bible and the writings of Nietzsche... not the most compatible of texts

  • Great video, thank you.

  • I see where Gonzo illustrator Ralph Steadman gets some inspiration.

  • Well done - a moving short video. I'll send my students to see it! Thank you.

  • Tengo guardadas las litografías de Goya...

Por cierto (y debo admitir las comparaciones son odiosas), la fuerza de estas imágenes no tienen comparación.

    Memoria... memoria histórica...

    Excelente trabajo, gracias.

  • This is an exorcism. I smiled when your introduction just confirmed my feelings. I was waiting for someone to pay him such a profound Tribute.

  • IL PITTORE E'L'OCCHIO DEL MONDO!

  • Truly haunting, powerful images from one of my favorite artists.

  • hi, a great tribute, does anyone know what the last picture shown on the video is called? i cant find it. thanks

  • I'm pretty sure that's from a triptych (sp) he painted. He did a couple of them after he got back from the front in WWI. I might not be right though, that's just off the top of my head.
