At least he's wearing full coverage, you see sooo many dumbshits not covering their skin even to their hands, UV is nothing to fuck around with skin cancer is a bitch. My grandfather was a steam fitter and even though he wore full protection he had to have a melanoma frozen off the side of his face where the rays got around his face shield.
i noticed the shirt lol, i graduate next week from wyotech, is this street rod or chassis fab? because i know i had a hell of a time passing my tig butt welds lol
Dude what thickness are welding -you must have that down ---We weld at PALL like speed demons with Miller matics hell we even have the NEW 700 ampo with water cooler 100% duty cycle yeah! VERY powerful!
Dude that was pretty good, just slow up a bit watch that puddle form a nice wave. Also like other people have mentioned (some abruptly) clean your tungsten, usually if its sparking like that the tip is contaminated.
sparks mean he contaminated the tungsten and should have stopped to clean it.
quick tip: use pure tungsten(if you weren't), stick out the tungsten a little more than 1/4", work the pedal while you dip to cool down the puddle, and lower the argon pressure to 5-10 cfm.
sparks dont necessarily mean he dipped the tungsten sparks just mean his torch isnt close enough to the weld man, the only real way you can tell the tungsten is contaminated is a green glow or brown shit around the weld
Sometimes slower may be better, but there is such a thing as "to slow". If one tig welds too slow he risks overheating the metal. If I were welding that part I would try to weld faster with a very short arc length so as to maintain a goldish or perhaps silver coloured weld bead.
so can you tell how much heat he is putting in the weld just by looking? can you see his foot? can you see his meter readings on the welder? no, slower is better more penetration faster means you need more heat, everyone has there own personal settings for a weld
The colour a TIG weld is a good indicator of how much atmospheric gasses have reacted (contaminated) the weldment. When Tig welding titanium, for example, the colour the the weld and surrounding area can be criteria for rejection or acceptance.

Was This in slow motion?
I've been aluminium tig welding for 20 years and I've never taken this long to get across a 6inch piece of metal...

Give him a chance, hes just doing a simple butt weld, obviously new to it.

surely going slower is better, cos you get more penetration?
