  • what's it's powerplant, engine type? looks cool.

  • Excellent

  • greate,

  • Very stable! I like it...

  • Very stable!

  • Ok...Now who's going to make the flying vagina so that thing can refuel in mid-air?

  • I like it TOO! -RCSUPERHERO

  • This video shows a UFO at minute 1:22 is amazing

  • This is amazing!

  • I'm VERY impressed!

  • Not very useful for commercial or military operations as any wind would make it too unstable for landing.

  • It's designed to tip over without breaking.

  • I dont suppose you have a plan? would l;ove to build one and show off at our airfields

  • That is amazing! Sir, you have truly created an engineering masterpiece.

  • hey! very nice gyro stabiliziation system! even greater if the cg seems to be at the top of the propeller... are you using conterotating propellers for sure.. dont you? well that's obvious, nice job tough... tailsitter i´m into design also

  • Hell, the sky is choka with chemtrails...

  • The pilots seat in the full size version would be interesting to say the least..( 90deg. gimbal?)

  • Very neat job and works very well indeed...

  • Great job, the reason I came across this video in the first place is because I have an idea for the VTOL myself... Long story short, imagine putting the propeller on the nose of the craft (much more stable) and a revolving cot-pit between the wings. during liftoff the pilots would be aligned with the craft and while it turns in horizontal orientation the cot-pit would revolve also, keeping the pilots upright. Cot-pit like a pendulum preserves the orientation.

  • Way too loud.

  • wooooow this thing is huge!!!!!!! awesome job there!!!!

  • wow!

  • dont forget to trim the hedge too!

  • Video should have shown him actually bringing it back down to the ground with a safe landing.

  • Great. A nice rebirth of the Heinkel Lerche II conception. =)

  • sounds like bigdog and the nasa puffin... do all cool things sound like this!? i think il set this as my ringtime >.<

  • If it is not a secret...can you explain the design.I can't understand the vertical take-off and then horizontal flight. How the propeller overcomes the weight of the UAV to keep it vertical and then to fly horizontal.I have seen VTOL but the propeller is changed horizontal-vertical wich I can't see in your UAV.For me it would be possible if the propeller was on top...but i can't figure with the propeller down.If it is really a trade secret...I understand.Thank You.

    igor

  • Igor,

The propeller is a pusher type and mounting on the top or bottom makes no difference. Th propeller makes thrust for hover and for high speed flight without any changes. The thrust in hover is much larger than high speed flight.

  • @smorrismlbco Ok . I understood the statement . It is just I cant figure it out : at the begining of the video when the UAV is "floating" in vertical position in order to keep it that way you must have it perfectly balanced - it is like a long stick you have on the tip of your finger. That stick will fall from vertical position unless you make movement so the base of the stick counteract the tip of the stick where it is falling. If that stick it is hold from the tip...the gravity is doing its work

  • There is a computer on the vehicle that provides stability. The dynamics are not the same as a stick balanced on a finger because the vehicle does not "pivot" about the thrust location. There is no such thing as "pendulum stability" for a flying vehicle if the thrust is fixed relative to the body. A computer provides all of the stability regardless.

  • @smorrismlbco So this is my question then . This computer how stabilizes the UAV in vertical? It does move the propeller or powertrian entirely like the thrust vectors in a direction other than parallel to the UAV longitudinal axis? Or how I have seen you have some small wings integarted in the hull of the propeller? Does those works as opposing forces in radial direction as the UAV stands vertical? Tanks you.

  • There are 8 movable control vanes inside the duct. They produce the roll, pitch, and yaw torques which control the vehicle.

  • Do you have some links of your progress or presentation?

  • The latest video is on my channel: "V-Bat 3.0 Transition Test Flight"

This version weighs 65 lbs and is powered by a 3-W 157cc engine. The endurance is 5 hours at 80 kts. I do not have presentation material on this design.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  • Thank you for your responce. How much weight does have your VTOL and whats the endurance?I am new in this field and really is very beautyfull. Can you direct me to some theoretical background to start with (books..videos...).You can PM me.Thank you once again.

  • IS it a ICE or electric powertain?

  • ICE 2-stroke air cooled. Motor is a 3-W 106.

  • удобно наверно газоны косить)

  • Hi wow great footage im wanting to design and make an rc flying saucer what is vtol and can turn any direction im just learning about stabiliy could you tell me what i need to make it lift by using one central prop how does yours work ? does it have like a counter rotating weight/gyro? or counter rotating blades ? and would it vtol without the long body or do you need that for stability ? i would be very gratefull for any info/diagrams

  • VTOL= vertical take off and landing

  • cool flight, heh i think you could give some unsuspecting people a UFO scare with that thing :DDDDD tks for posting

  • Congratulations

! I will try this project for the practice of aeromolismo, and could send the project?

  • A Great piece of engineering! Did the controller build that?! Looks like a 1st draft prototype for the air force lol

  • Great flight. Looks pretty stable, too.

    Congrats.

  • imagine one of them equipped with anti-tank and helifire missiles,

you could decleare war on ya neighbour

  • You must be American

  • no, im english

im just pointing out that if kids can buy the original version, then im sure they can kit it out quite well.

  • Fantastic.

  • Drop some bombs!!!:)))))))

  • hello steve have a look at my design too, i am looking forward to have such design built up. we can talk on details. i would need your guidance

  • OMFG NO WAY!

I HAD THIS SAME DESIGN PLANNED ON PAPER TO BUILD OVER THE SUMMEERRRR

I WANTED TO BUILD SOMETHING ORIGNALL NOOOO

anyway, that flys a lot better than i thought it would, with the wing being so far back on the body.

I assume thats because the relative weight of the engine.... my design had a canard on the nose :/

Have you thought of scaling it up for passengers yet?

The fan would probably be ridiculously huge.

I was designing mine to be a UAV, you could look into that...

  • The design in the video is a UAV.

We have a scaled -up design on paper that can carry 300 lb payload (1 passenger) 300 miles at 150 mph. The vehicle is not very big (15 ft span, 950 lb weight) and has an 8 ft diameter fan.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  • Does your autopilot in the UAV handle the transition from level flight to hover on its own? or will manual controls have to be taken for the hover?

  • The final product will be fully autonomous in all flight modes. Most of the control laws are now finished.

  • likes than heinkel lerche 3 B-2

  • how much weight do u think this can support?

  • The design can be scaled-up to carry passengers. This version can lift 5 lbs of payload.

  • too much noise... otherwise excellent!

  • it's quieter than normal UAV's

  • CG is on the 25% chord of the wing.

    Steve

  • That is brilliant :D

So where is the CG for normal flight? I'm guessing it would have to be near the wings right?

  • How did you make it so stable on hover? There's a video here on youtube claiming the XFY-1 Pogo (tailsitter) was unstable for having a high center of mass, even having a puller configuration! A pusher would throw the center of lift way under the center of mass causing it to topple over, right? Gyroscopic automatic corrections are enough to counter this?

  • The V-Bat has a computerized stabilization system on-board that uses gyros, accel's, etc. to move the vane servos and stabilize the vehicle. There is no inherent stability in the design while hovering, all the stability comes from the computer.

Also, the pusher configuration makes little difference to the stability level of the vehicle. To first order the thrust acts through the vehicle's CG and there is no "pendulum effect" with either engine installation.

  • Thanks.. I was just amazed because since I watched the other vid I though it would be completely impossible for a tailsitter to sit on it's prop because of unstability... The video showed a simulation of a Pogo crashing about 4 or 5 times before actually taking off... And about the same thing on attempted landings... Perhaps the simulated Pogo was not so well done... Thanks again...

  • What did you use as an interface for this (if you dont mind answering...)?

  • anything JR or Futaba makes for giant scale would work great!

  • if it wasn't so loud you could sneak up at people and decapitate them :p

  • very cool!

i have questions, and hope someone could really helps me

    - what's the most suitable and really low cost type of gyro, accelerometer which can be use for an UAV which have weight about 40kg?

-other than gyro and accelerometer, what type of mechanisme that i could possibly use make my UAV stable when VTOL?

-any sensor that can sense the unstability when VTOL and what actuator should i use for the 40kg UAV?

  • diarrhea, diarrhea, diarrhea, diarrhea. liquid feces.

  • This is great! To stabilise the altitude with a gyro you are letting the gyro taking the control of the throttle. How does the gyro recognise an altitude change since it is not turning around one of the axis?

  • Did you make it or where did you get it?

  • This is a design developed by my company. It is a UAV that can operate from confined areas and still have duration/speed comparable to fixed wing aircraft that require runways or complicated recovery systems.

  • turn that fan into a jet, this would be great for a vtol fighter

  • lol

  • u can make it look like a ghost ''white clothes...'' and scare the shit out of ppl =P

  • Well very well... I have a similar platform. ... but for a projecto of a system antitorque different...

    Looks my videos and thinks...

  • hi look mine video is a good proyect

  • 3:08 sounds like a weedeater to me /:P

  • 0:38 verv cool!

  • excellentt. well done. very inspiring

  • lawn mower?

  • How do you find people small enough to fly these things ?

  • Yea not bad pilots either whoever they are. I wonder who trains the little guys?

  • lmao

  • great stuff.youre on to something.think theres a possibility for a personnal freewing VTOL?

  • really sweet platform,,You do very good work...

  • Wow, that's very creative. Great video.

  • come on! soon well fly.. low flight!! loke the alvatross,,,, overseaa... over tundra,, over desert,,, besside the higway...SIlENTTLY... keeep it up!!

  • seems pretty stable!! during hover ,,, but the 1st transition seemed very agressive,, to horizontal... does it have a swashplate??

do you use it for the 1st transition???

2nd transition is not legible #visible#..! mmm ive got ideas------------------<--------,

well done so far!! :) mmmm just the noise,,, !! ll see wavw cancellin

  • ahhhhhhhh its thrust vector control

  • dude if you made that quieter and put weird lights on it you could totally fuck with people

  • OMG

  • hi there iv been into model planes for some time now only with park flyers i have been trying to find something that hovers and flies forwards besides helicopters jst like your plane thing few questions did you build it how many channel? is it hard to fly i want one lol i have a 50lbs thrust jet turbine engine fun

  • if these things start to "watch" us, couldn't you imagine wolfblitzer on CNN saying

"UAV's working in new york, two more people seriosuly injuredy after three uav's failed to keep stability and fell into a large crowd injuring two."

"TOnight's top story, are UAV's partolling new york safe enough?

  • Its too loud go electric or go home.

  • Good engineering and flying, but it looks like a dick with wings on it. Did Ace and Gary design it?

  • Nice craft, can you make a seamless / non edited video? :)

  • Definitel the best VTOL video I've seen. I'm tired of all the V-22 wannabe's with no true forward thrust flight. Not sure what all the trouble is with forward transition.

  • That is quite impressive, but I hate UAV's it's just a matter of time before some idiot runs one of those things into a manned aircraft!

  • Soon we'll have those things flying around and keeping an 'eye' on us.. Like in Half-Life 2

  • i was thinking that too..lol...hl2 is awesome though

  • Yeah. HL2 pwns! :P

  • Awesome!

  • Really nice work. Well done, looks nice too!
