A furminator costs $60. I use an old mustache/beard trimmer that no longer works,...I just turn it over and rake the blade across the hair and oh boy does it take out the hair...its the blade that does it!
The small FURminator deShedding Tool used in this video retails for around $35. It does not have a blade and does not cut or damage the top coat. Instead, the deShedding Tool pushes through the topcoat to gently remove the dead undercoat.
It's not very gentle, sometimes my cat likes it, sometimes she doesn't, but she won't sit for it for excessive amounts of time, only enough to get a good cup full of hair. Either way, imo, it works quite well and does it's job, and I just don't use it on my cat if she chooses to walk away from it. Some cats may not like it, some may love it.
