I was raised in a christian home and went to a strict baptist church. Even as a child, I thought the bible was awful and violent and god didn't sound like a nice guy to me - always smiting ppl and such. As an adult, I can see the flaws in the bible now. One of them being the fact that Jesus didn't seem to agree with the laws of the old testament which were supposedly god's laws, (or so moses said anyways). I just think it's a book written by humans and nothing more.

Even as a child, I thought the bible was awful and violent and god didn't sound like a nice guy to me - always smiting ppl and such. As an adult, I can see the flaws in the bible now. One of them being the fact that Jesus didn't seem to agree with the laws of the old testament which were supposedly god's laws, (or so moses said anyways). I just think it's a book written by humans and nothing more.

Zzbullan, you are wrong. Both my older children (currently 9 and 10) have read parts of the Christian Bible, along with tons of other mythological stories, such as the Illiad. The funny thing is, they noticed some of the similarities between, say, the stories of Osiris, Krisna, and Jesus. They are exposed to many belief systems. They are also taught critical thinking, and to demand evidence for assertions.

yes but what would happen if you have a child who believes in god. lets say that you have a 6 year old or to a less extent a 8 year old begins to believe these stories because he hasn't been "taught" about the other religions. Would you explain it to him/her as you would to an adult no you would need to use child language, i mean kids are smart but there brain hasn't developed as far and there vocabulary would be limited that is what i am saying

Zzbullan, you make a good point regarding children's comprehension of religous texts. Actually, that is one of the reasons I am fully against the religious indoctrination of children. If the child cannot fully comprehend the doctrine, they cannot make an informed choice. Incidentally, both my older children flirted with the idea of being Christians for a while. Now one is really into Hellenic religion and the other into Norse.
