  • hey, can you send me the d/l link

    ?

  • The only reason people don't want to say JM is as good as SRV and Jimi is because he's not dead yet.

Once he kicks the bucket, EVERYONE will say what a god he was and so on and so forth. Then Rolling Stone will put him in the top 10 or 15 guitarists, and we'll all move on to telling another guitarist how he doesn't come close to Hendrix, SRV and maybe even John Mayer.

It's the elite "dead guitar god club."

  • haha by 9:20 his guitar is about as out of tune as Jimi's used to end up being. He must have played the song right lol

  • he's a sick bastard. i love that he puts his own spin on it and doesn't try to play it note for note.

  • What a cover man Good shit holy JOhn mayer they always say It's shit But man this is the best thing youve ever played whht a cover

  • I didn't know Mayer had died!!! He clearly sounds like he died 3 years ago. Piss off back to popmusicworld loser and leave this stuff to real guitarists.

  • This dude is nothing special. I've heard covers that sound much better than this crap!

  • this is the best john mayer I've ever heard nice Jimi Jam

  • To me, it's like this....... John Mayer can do a great SRV/Jimi, but so can Kenny Wayne Shepherd and a bunch of other players, and they'll all sound different from one another. The point is Jimi and Stevie had SO MANY licks at their disposal that guys coming along now can take a handful of their licks and figure them out (which will take YEARS by the way) and do a suitable Jimi/SRV. Jimi Hendrix and SRV were, are and ALWAYS WILL BE in a class all by themselves!!!!!!!!

  • @MrYoter Yes, but what u are saying about mayer&shepherd with respect to jimi&srv is the same thing u can say about jimi&srv with regards to the 3kings, everyone builds off of there influences. Go listen to Man on the Side from Mayer's Any Given Thursday live album. It really opitimizes how these guy build there own sound off their influences. he starts off playing his version of SRV's Lenny, then breaks into his own song, it shows him taking a SRV style and making a mayer sound

  • @ak231510 yeah I'm not arguing with you, you're right. What I'm trying to get across about SRV and Jimi, is that the two of them had such a HUGE arsenal of licks that they could draw from, that player's now can get just a fraction of them down and still sound like SRV/Jimi, but different from one another. Meaning JM and KWS can both be playing SRV licks on a Hendrix cover tune and both be playing something TOTALLY different.

  • @ak231510 By the way, I've got the Any Given Thursday DVD and it's great!! I love how he plays Lenny into Man on the Side.

  • @ak231510 gonna go check those songs out right now

  • @MrYoter I fuckin agree..... but I believe John mayer definetely does a better cover of hendrix then kenny wayne sheppard any day........... listen to his version of who knows.... type in john mayer who knows...... in the search here..... but check out the old version... the one he play when he was like only 17 years old....

  • @lovelydaize I believe it was rolling stone who said that mayer plays hendrix better than bendrix played hendrix, meaning his playing of jimi tunes are always more polished and technically perfect than when hendrix played them since his playing was more sloppy. Definitely not trying to say mayer is better than hendrix, just a funny anedcote from a music magazine that does show just how good mayer is at his jimi covers.

  • @lovelydaize hey thanks for the tip!! I had never heard that version of that (I just listened to the one from 1994), it was fuckin' bad ass!!!

  • no one should ever do a cover of machine gun. no one can put their soul into it like hendrix.

  • @sabertoothtiger91 Agreed! Specially John Mayer since he has no soul..... He sucks!

  • @sabertoothtiger91 +1 Couldn't agree with you more.

  • @markovchaney1950 all covers are derivative, they are covers of something else, thats the definition of derivative.

  • smokin joe bonamosso check his hendrix n zeppelin covers out:))

  • to everyone hating on mayer, he can play hendrix/srv better and more technical than any other young musician today. and aside from his mindblowing guitar skills, he is also a phenomenal vocalist. i am not saying he is better than srv or hendrix i am saying hes keeping there music alive. who else can get 14 year old girls to listen to the blues? no one. not saying i am one, but a know a few. so everyone saying he is "giving shame to hendrix's name" he isn't. hendrix would be proud.

  • @AndrewDavisMusic - well put mate! I agree 100%! He is keeping their skills alive and making great sounds - that's music and that's talent!

  • @AndrewDavisMusic

Correction...Mayer can play Hendrix & SRV better & more technically than any other musician that YOU are aware of. Further, he's not that young. He's almost 33 years old. SRV died at age 35. Oh & to answer your question re "14 year old girls listening to the blues..." Johnny Lang, Philip Sayce, Derek Trucks, Indigenous, The Black Crowes, Sonny Landreth, Luther Dickinson, to name a few. The blues is far from dead with the younger generation. I've seen kids @ all of their shows.

  • john mayer yo bring shame to jimi hendrix

  • @bubbabubbabooba this guy is 44, fat, balding and doesn't even play guitar. can you say faggot?

  • This is John Mayer playing some Hendrix, not jimi, get over it kids and enjoy a great guitarist

  • if your one of those haters who cant get down this shit theres some deep seeded issues in your soul...his machine is mind blind blowing....if this is whack than Philip Sayce is ok....btw check out Philip Sayce if you like Hendrix and SRV

  • Hendrix's Voodoo Child makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck no matter how many times you listen to it, it explodes with energy! and this well kinda don't..sorry. I do think he's a very good guitarist, but I think he's not 'there' on this.

  • @TheMidnightOnline

really agree with you. FANTASTIC player, but Mayer's style is all about playing extremely clean and pretty much always staying away from most extremes, which is mostly essential when playing these hendrix tunes =]

  • It's lacking the conviction and emotion Jimi puts into this song (think of what MachineGun was actually wrote about,it's not for chatting over crap to your fans, sorry), it's good but it's too smooth, layed back and polished....boring.

  • He's just paying his respects, people. He's a good player who wants to show people his own idols, and spread his love of the greats. And he plays with a lot of feel, to boot. Just give it a rest.

  • its good. i dont think he captured the feeling and message of machine gun tho, thats just my opinion and im not just another hater, i like mayer's playing a lot of the time

  • just not the same as JIMI man. Not dissinJM, just my opinion.

  • @congochicken87 Well no shit.

  • wow i listen to this and can't believe that anyone ever could hate on john mayer. and as far as covering hendrix, he clearly has a love for jimi and gets into his music who could fuckin hate on that? get off his back jeez

  • @ak231510

Are the any other current blues-based players that you're into? Other than Mayer, that is. If so, name some. I ask because, to a degree, I happen to agree with the comments of ericthemidgetdoll. There are many fantastic blues players who remain unknown by the general listening public who wave the flag of Mayer. And that's not a derogatory statement because I like John as a player. I just don't hear much originality in his phrasing. So let's hear it...Who else do you listen to?

  • @67goldtops uh, yeah. Clapton, Buddy, BB, Hendrix, Albert, Freddie, Jeff Beck, SRV are obvious. As for newer people, I am much more into people who use the blues principles in other more progressive ways such as Black Keys, Jack White, Mayer, Ben Harper and Frusciante, although I do still listen to more traditional players as well such as Bonamassa. The point that I did not agree with at all is when ericthemidgetdoll said Mayer is a joke in the guitar world, which is just incorrect

  • @ak231510

Yeah, I like the new guys you mentioned. However, Jack White & Dan Auerbach are about as old-school as you get. There's nothing progressive about their playing. Unlike, Bonamassa, who combines his blues roots w/ some shredder tendencies & modal soloing. As far as the SRV inspired players, which MAYER is clearly, you should check out Mato Nanji of Indigenous. Philip Sayce, Chris Duarte, Henry Garza, Davy Knowles, are others. However, Mato is as close to SRV's intensity as I have seen.

  • @ak231510

Hey man, check out the first 2 videos on my favorites page. You'll dig 'em. Peace.

  • @67goldtops GILMOUR!!!

  • @67goldtops Check out the Black Keys, man. They're damn fantastic

  • try Scott Mckeon or Philip Sayce

  • @jablin

    Yeah, I have.

  • @67goldtops Lance Lopez, Tyler Bryant

  • @jablin

    No thanks.

  • @67goldtops I think sums it up best when he says that he "just does't hear any originality in Mayer's phrasing". I have to agree.

I know all players cop from those around them and those that came before them and I have no problem with that. But the really good ones add that little something special to what they have copped. To my ears Mayer just does not add anything. He I think is above average in talent but in the end is just someone that has learned someone elses licks.

  • John Mayer is still on the crossroads 2010 bill...

  • look, mayer isnt playing these songs for people to go around saying " damn this guy sucks, he will never compare to hendrix or srv,'' or,"Damn, mayer is better than hendrix and srv!" He is playing for the crowd that wants to listen to him, and to pay his dues to the greats out there such as srv hendrix robin trower pat metheney and jon mclaughlin. noone plays hendrix like hendrix. noone plays srv like srv, noone plays mayer like mayer

  • frank marino's version is alot better

  • Put it this way, John Mayer is mah nigga.

  • It's to bad he got all messed up with them hollywood chicks. This guy is a highly gifted guitarist! That's what he is!

  • Put it this way - if Hendrix could hear SRV's version of his tunes, Hendrix (being a super humble dude) would have freakin loved it, dude would have laughed because SRV's version is soo freaking good, taking Hendrix to the next level.

Couldn't find the part of the thread where someone says Mayer is better than Hendrix, but wow, that would be hilarious to read! Of course it's Hendrix -> SRV -> and others after.

  • @MrBigfunkychief

Yeah that is the reason most people hate Mayer, because of his douchebag fans. Most of them are upper middle class daddy bought me my bmw driving Coeds that go around saying he is the next Clapton, SRV, and better then hendrix. Most of these kids have no clue, and can't name 10 well known blues musicians or 10 of Hendrix's songs.

Mayer is good, but the over hype is what is killing this guy. In the real guitar world he is a joke sad to say!

  • I think your comments are a bit brazen, and to say upper middle class people can't apreciate good music is just arrogant. I can name some blues musicians that I like if I want to ... Clapton, Hendrix, SRV, Freddie King, Albert King, David Trucks, John Frusciante, Joe Bonamassa, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Robert Johnson, Otis Redding, Robert Cray, Jimmie Vaughan, John Mayer ...

  • Hendrix Songs off the top of my head: Castles Made of Sand, Wind Cries Mary, Hey Joe, Little Wing, Bold As Love, Purple Haze, Voodoo Chile, Machine Gun, Wait 'Till Tomorrow, Red House ... Bottom line is you can stick with your over - assuming stereotypes and in meantime I'll be enjoying some good music while I watch this video.

  • yea well, theres no going over hendrix or srv, in sense of influence or whatever.

but a really talented artist that might just be huge is not something to just look over saying, ah srv was better.

    right?

  • The difference is that Jimi Hendrix played this song to protest something.

  • and what is that exactly?

  • To protest against the Vietnam War.

  • oh rly? cool

  • John mayer really gets down playing jimmy. There are a lot of great guitarists out there these days. saying one is better than the other is just impossible. Everyone has their own musical style and influences. so it's like comparing apples and oranges. some like em...some don't...john mayer does a good job here...no argument bout that....

  • Jimi's is best because he wrote every single lyric and note to it!

  • This is more of a jimi song for john, although you can still hear srv and guy a little.

  • Alright. But as I said before, it's my opinion. So if you think it's the best, I believe you, but I'm still entitled to my own opinion.

  • Yeah, I sure respect your and other's opinion. All I wanted to say was.....that's the most butiful version. Look at it as an art, as colors......These days many people cover Voodoo Child / Slight Return, they study it at school. You can hear even versions, done at appocayiptic speed (Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani).....But Jimi's studio version remains one and only, with second best Royal Albert Hall. All that is here to stay (200 years)....as Eddie Kramer once said ...

  • I still like the SRV version. I think the one song no one could ever recreate is Little Wing. I've NEVER heard a good cover of that.

  • I used to agree with you. However, I recently heard an EXCELLENT cover of Little Wing by Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood. It does have it's own style, but if you haven't heard or seen their Live in Madison Square Garden performance....WOW!!!!

  • It does sound really good, but with the Hendrix version, I feel like a sense of like wonder and questioning when I hear that song. That song just makes me wonder.

  • Damn this dude knows how to play some Jimi. Anyone know where i can get an mp3 of this song?

  • can I get a link to the full song?

  • how do u do all those effects hes doing at like 8:00 and on like wild squeaks and stuff

  • you crank the amp up and you stand near it

  • oh and u may want a whammy bar

  • I'm sick of retarded comparisons. Jimi was heavily influenced by Albert King, Buddy Guy and BB king (as well as others), SRV had all those guys plus jimi as an influence. And JM has all of them plus SRV. Obviously they emulate their influences to some extent. All are amazing individual, creative artists. Arguing about who is the most creative or talented or technical is a waste of time. Comparisons are stupid and at best subjective. Pick up a guitar and give the comments a rest.

  • @sauce13pan

No need to compare of course jimi hendrix is first then srv then this guy...

Lol who says otherwise is stupid =D

  • Check the video response for what I think is one of the best versions of Voodoo Child:)

John Mayer is good but still not there yet!

  • want to add that i really like him despite of this

  • are yall seriously bashing srv......... wtf hendrix is god.... srv is god.... leave it at that

  • @manelfreitas I'm just stating my opinion. Don't get all butt hurt because I've got an opinion. I know Hendrix is good, but I'm just saying I like SRVs version better.

  • Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower just COPIED Bob Dylan, but it was still better.

  • you know what. you're absolutely right, sorry haha

  • No he didn't. Listen to the beginning. His wah/muted string intro has a way better groove to it and he sang the shit out of it. His guitar work is much cleaner on the track and he adds his own spin on it. That's the whole point of a cover. To put your own perspective on it.

  • youre right, my apologies. rock on!

  • could i get the link for full download?

  • Fuck that. SRV is the best. His version of Voodoo Chile [slight return] is the best one out there.

  • Hey is it steve jordan on drums? nahhh i dont think so, cuz he cant play like this

  • Yeah it is steve jordan on drums, this was in 2004 at a John Mayer Trio Show

  • @ak231510 Steve and PINO!

  • @storefedekussesvin steve jordan can play this in his sleep bro, lmfoa.

  • @storefedekussesvin steve jordan can play this in his sleep bro, lmfao

  • @storefedekussesvin Steve Jordan is amazing. Probably the best drummer that John plays with.

  • The kid sounded pretty good until about 8 minutes in when he just lost it

  • Mayer souinds really like jimi..!

  • Everyone here is WRONG!!! Jimi is the greatest...the best...that is to say his fingers were better...they made better movements...The guitar strings whistled, yelped, and cried in perplexity. He could take um with one hand behind his back...

  • i personally enjoy duane allman and derek trucks more then hendrix but theres no accounting for taste. i just like duanes subtle mastery of his tone and his slide work. but thats not to say i dont enjoy hendrix, it doesnt get much better then once i had a woman on his blues album. and rude mood by srv is great because nobody but stevie could really pull that song off that fast and sound that clean. anyways 2 cents

  • who are we to judge one souls expression?

  • hendrix was gifted from heaven. no one ever was near him. only stevie has power to put again intyo hendrix songs!no matter drunk under drugs or what they both play like litlle gods!ifwe give out voodochild machine gun what remains at all!man who can create such a sounds is not no way odinary he must be quitar god!

  • from heaven? i think the power came within...not from some phoney in the sky.

  • heaven is inside you the world of sounds and hendrix lived in those sounds long before he was born!

  • Nah it was Heaven and the power of love

  • It's not the same. At least somebody with talent is keeping these songs going. If not it's ging to be nothing but pop crap.

  • argue all you want, it doesn't matter to Hendrix or to SRV or to Mayer whos better. If anything, there would be great respect and only Good Music!

  • i saw SVR play the full voodoo child parts behind his back and parts with the guitar over his head playing with his teeth. he gave a speech about being sober , and was blown away that this dude could play like this and be so honest about his past...it was in 1985 in Fresno Calif, in a old theatre from the 1920's with a wedding cake cieling...i was just a kid and gave me a chance to see playing like people did with hendrix in the years before...

  • john is good but he must stop do all of his gay songs and do stuff like this

  • Idk....I don't care for the stuff I have heard on the radio, but this really isn't bad. Nice riffing and nice to hear the truth from straight from the horses mouth.

  • great playing! arguing is silly.... you could get 10 other great guitarists also doing their renditions...i would hope all are different, drawing from thier own musical experiences, just like Hendrix doing HIS own national anthem. I saw SRV when I was 16 doing voodoo Chile as a encore behind his back with his teeth...if you closed your eyes it was Jimi...Stevie had that southern blues style and grace that was his style. RIP

  • agreed!

  • I agree

  • TannerW1982 - you seem to know what you are talking about so i am not going to try and argue with you, but i will just say that nobody is perfect and i think what i like about john is that he is not perfect, He does what he loves and thats all that matters, and whoever loves it back, well thats whats is important. I think in general there would be no debating and bickering over anything if people just let people like what they want to without trying to put it down in some way

  • Tanner W1982 can shut the fuck up cause jimi hendrix is so far from perfect its not even funny, farther than john mayer

  • ok lets not get stupid. jimi hendrix was pretty close to perfect. john mayer is too. both are amazing guitarists

  • From an innovation standpoint Hendrix is second to none, but people always overestimate his guitar playing. Hendrix was notoriously sloppy with his guitar playing, something that acutally added to his sound, but he was sloppy none the less. There are a number of players who are better technical guitarist then hendrix was, which mayer is one of. But again, his innovation and mystique is where no one comes close to hendrix, not his technical playing.

  • not even just technical, i watched a live dvd at woodstock that had all of the songs from his set, his live improv isn't that good, his phrasing was kind of bad, i love a bunch of his songs but its just hard for me to declare him perfect and the best, innovation wise he's the best ever though, little wing, and bold as love especially

  • umm yeah i was saying both are amazing :)

  • I totally agree. Hendrix's sound revolutionized rock. But in terms of "skill" he wasn't as godly as made out to be. Most of the time when Hendrix was on stage he was always either stoned or drunk. Not a good combination. Skill-wise I'd say SRV could take him to town.

  • I agree. I don't think he was the most skilled player, but at the same time, I've seen him do some very skillful things. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that Hendrix was, at times, a very skillful player....His skills varied throughout time. Plus I think he was extremely creative. Watch his improvisation at Woodstock if you haven't already.

  • comparing guitar players is like corn on the cob being compared to creamed corned. WHO THE FUCK CARES EAT WHAT YOU LIKE

    =)

  • I understand that, but I enjoy comparing guitar players...I never said anyone was better or worst, I was just standing up for Hendrix, because I love his music...I probably care more than he does though haha

  • jimmie is obvs better though cuz he made this stuff up mayer is only making his version of the classic , they are both amazing guitarists tho.

  • well obviously corn on the cob is better though.

  • yeah corn on the cob is way better

  • @fagboy61

FUCK THAT SHIT. CORN OFF THE COB IS A THOUSAND TIMES BETTER.

  • haha! well put!

  • Freakin awesome analogy. Haha

  • @itsafalsebelief well that's just plain stupid, everyone with half a brain knows corn on the cob is better

  • @itsafalsebelief there is so many good guitar players in the world today. I consider myself a expert, but theres guys who do shit everyday that blows my mind. the guitar is the most expressive things in the world, so much comes together in a players style. so many diffrent flavors. a good player is like a good gumbo, and it only gets better with time. i agree with ur statment. if you dont like john mayer.. why are you listenin to him? find what you like. dont bring bad vibes to someone else.

  • @itsafalsebelief

quit using passive voice you illiterate cretin.

  • @itsafalsebelief id still like to punch him in his face for being a dick

  • i agree SRV was a better guitar player, but he was stoned a lot of the time early on. he finally decided to quit doing cocaine and heroin when he puked up blood before a show.

  • i disagree..i dont know if youve tried the chord melody style hendrix did but if you have then youd know how hard it is.. compared to SRV who played mostly out of the e minor pentatonic blues boxes just really fast. of course both legends in their own right.. but no Jimi = no SRV

  • guitarded401

Well, it depends on how one defines SKILL. Most people who make such comments are limited in their scope of definition. Meaning they're commenting strictly on a player's proficiency in performing the PHYSICAL manipulations on the instrument. Yet they overlook the SONIC. They overlook Jimi's complete & uncomparable ability to control sound & feedback. They overlook his supreme improvisational skill, his knowledge of the neck & his ability to solo almost endlessly w/out repetition.

  • agreed

  • i guess ill take that cause i want to hit you from the rear, not a bad guitar player...for a girl

  • mayer is a great guitarist but he palys to much mom rock

  • You could say the same thing about SRV, which is actually something Mayer cites as something he tried to follow. In his own words, "Not many guitarists make it to the housewife contingency, which is what stevie was able to do." I dont really see that as a bad thing, Mayer and SRV made great music that everyone can enjoy.

  • Mayer is a talented guitarist, but his recurring problem with the blues is that he thinks too much and, as a consequence, regurgitates the same tired old riffs and licks.

Bottom line, the man is fatally lacking in spontaneity.

  • That just tells me you have not heard a lot of his music. One thing that everyone who listens to him live always says is how much he improvises, he never plays a song the same way twice which is way he is great and in my opinion even better live than he is on his actual studio albums.

  • ak - Your assumptions are completely unfounded and categorically wrong.

As a matter of fact, I've listened to every studio song Mayer's ever put out - and I've seen him in concert twice: once when he was touring Room For Squares and again when he was with The Trio.

Open-minded listeners can easily tell that Mayer's intuitions lie with soft acoustic music; NOT blues. He's just too formulaic, too repetitive in his live blues performances.

Like I've already said, Mayer lacks spontaneity.

  • That is absolutely incorrect. Blues is what he started playing, go back and listen to his high school band Villanova Junction, its all blues music, and striaght from him, the only reason he started playing acoustic is cause when he moved to Atlanta he wanted to start playing right away and not have to gel with a band, which is why you here a lot of thumb slapping on the bass notes, cause he wanted to create an entire band feel, but the blues is where he started & where all his music comes out of

  • Where did I claim that Mayer 'started out' playing soft, acoustic music? I said that his INTUITIONS lie with that style. As in, that's where he is at his best, whether live or in the studio.

Look, this comes down to opinions and we're clearly never going to see eye-to-eye here (or ear-to-ear, as it were). But at least take the time to read and comprehend what I've written before you respond.

  • Then I think you shoulg go look up what INTUTIONS means, you definitley are not using that right. I was responding to you based off of what that word actually means, in which case you would be wrong, because even he has explained his (INTUITIONS) are based in the blues genre, which is what he has always played and are where his tendencies remain

  • And what makes you the expert?? Quit the negativity on his blues playing with all those useless and idiotic comments and let the man get on with playing the blues...

  • people really need to shut up, john mayer has the best hendrix covers out there, besides on red house, the guy can play the faggiest pop songs in the world and then just kill it on these songs, he's good at hendrix, better than everyone besides hendrix, so fauwf everyone

  • who are you to judge? do you do this for a living?Ihighly doubt it If he enjoys what he does and other people do also then shut up

  • I'm gonna agree with you, coming from a blues standpoint he probably does lack creativity, but coming from a mom rock standpoint he's miles better than he needs to be. some ppl cant take that. He's an incredible pop star, and a good blues player

  • Wish he would get some balls and a tone to go with them. Technically he is proficient enough, an his pop stuiff was good, but his bluesy stuff is nowhere near as good as people make it out to be, if you got down to see some good live music in the larger centres you would see what i mean.

  • YOU, my friend, are completely deluded. John's tone is legendary, and up there with the best of the best. I play blues out 3 times a week live, and John has the chops, the tone and the blues. If BB King asks him to play with him on stage, believe me, John's the real deal. BB says so, so should you. Or post your crazy good tone and prove something.

  • I checked out your site bnapoleonc123, I wouldn't bash John's tone dude. You should re-name yourself the reverb king! Or maybe Thin Tone King.

  • Thanks I will, and I never claimed to ahve a great tone, Given that my entire set-up costs less than his guitar I think thats kinda to be expected. And as for being completely deluded, maybe i am, but it;s my opnion, and one that i have just as much of a right to as you. To my mind players Like Bonamassa, Warren Haynes, Orianthi Pagnaris have nicer tones, and more feel. But thats me, and if you don;t agree, so be it, it;s a free internet!

  • Tone is something Mayer has in spades, his two rock amp is just sick. You should check out some of his more recent stuff. Listen to I dont trust myself or slow dancing from the Webster Hall cnocert or wait until tomorrow and another you from the where the light is dvd, I bet your opinion of his tone changes.

  • Ok thanks for that I will.

  • How about we simplify your argument down to "I like Bonamassa, Warren Haynes, Orianthi Pagnaris' tones more than John Mayer's"? rather than say this one is better than that?

I think a listener's mistake comes in when they try to fit one artist into another artist's shoes. JM is not SRV is not J Hendrix is not Eric Clapton. And none of them are BB King or Albert King. They all played and shared the Blues, but they are all different.

Thank you both for sharing your opinions. Enjoy the music.

  • Fair comment, my apologies for not thinking of it earlier. Music is after all very much subjective, and i gnereally try to avoid arguments about it, but I just find Mayer whilst very god in some aspects is also a bit over-rated in my opinion no others. Still thats the beauty of opinions, everyone has got one! Peace.

  • True, and sorry I lashed out at you and attacked your tone bnapoleonc123. I just get sick of people bashing musicians and calling everyone copy cats and clones and rip offs without backing it up with their tone and playing. I love Bonamassa and Warren Haynes too, but I'm a Strat guy and like JM's tone better except when Bonamasa uses his strat. Then JB's tone is earth shaking.

  • Hey no problems, music is very subjective so we are bound to have disagreements, and that tone wasn't great. Always been an LP man, though jimi is my all time favourite player, his tones and music are amazing. I don;t like bashing people, but I feel personally that mayer lacks the fire of say SRV, and has become over-0rated as a blues player,.though his pop stuff is great, and he has some very clever stuff, e.g. neon. I am glad that we can have a reasoned discussion, so rare on YT. Thanks!

  • Probably trying to cover it for the same reason that garbage singer/guitar player in the video you favorited on your page did...because he wanted to.

  • u got bad karma dude -- i'm blockin u for being a dork

  • No, you're blocking me cause the truth hurts.

  • Neat cover from Mayer
