Feet toughness also plays into it, and just like anything else in the body, it can be strengthened to be able to withstand more rigorous treatment.

Lots of comments about why he doesn't have a beard here...In the original Tarzan of the apes book, tarzan shaved himself as a sign of rejection towards being an ape. While disney's adaption is quite different from the book, it is still an adaption based off of the original. (I like this Tarzan so much more :P) My guess is he's in his 20's...
