  • I wish I could bench press. Just using a light weight plays havoc with my shoulders and wrists. I see guys without much muscle benching 25k as a warm up. :(

  • @martynblackburn1977 - have your shoulders checked out and if there is no problem then train very light and get the movement right with no pain etc. You can always build up the weight over a few months. Take your time and forget what others are doing in the gym. You are training for you not to impress others with how much you can warm up with. Baz

  • You're amazing man! Thanks for the vid!

  • @Lionofthedeye - thanks so much that is a wonderful compliment. Baz

  • baz ur a beast. good videos

  • @PeTeMaTiC1 - thanks so much for the compliment. Baz

  • good instruction baz, hope you will post more instructional videos...

  • @adjeast - thanks so much and yes there will be a lot more videos. Baz

  • hey baz im really struggling with recovering after a workout. When i do the exercise you do in this vid I can barely touch my face for the next 2 days because I am so sore lol should i use supplements to help myself recover quicker or do you know a better waY?

  • @Mr420Cheese - I think you should work lighter with quite high reps and and try to train 2 times a week. As your muscles get used to training you will get less and less stiff. You might be overdoing your training erach time you train. Baz

  • Hi Baz do you have any opinions on using free weight barbells or using the ones that are attached to a machine so you can turn the bar with your wrists to put it back (dunno if i explained that well haha) i have been told free weights are better but is there much of a difference in the two? suppose that question could go for any weight training in general, machine or free weights?

  • @stephenjones1986 - I like free weights much more then machine weights. With machine weight you are fixed to the movement of the machine which are designed for the average person. We are all different. With free weights you can make adjustments to angles etc so it is far less stressful on joints and ligaments. Baz

  • @BazBlog cheers for the reply and advice! appreciate it :)

  • @stephenjones1986 - pleasure my friend. good luck with your training. Baz

  • 2:48 = Robert De Niro

  • @BL1TZz100 - ;-) Baz

  • where did u get your bench from?

  • @killashop1 - all the equipment I buy comes from a shope called Argos here in the UK. They are the cheapest. Baz

  • flat bench press does your chest rite??.....but does it give you that size and muscle mass coz what about incline or can you do both iv been told that flat bench press gives you a much bigger chest alltogether for building muscle mass??

  • @steven3662 - the information you have been given is right I think. I like lat pull downs or pull ups for the back (lats). I think flat bench press is the best for mass. Incline is good but only if you want to build the upper part of the chest. Get some mass first then worry about shape. Baz

  • help me out with something plz mate....rite iv been told that to gain muscle mass the exercises u do is flat bench press for your pectorals/benover role for your back/deadlifts for your back/barbell bicep girls for your biceps/tricep exstentions for your triceps/milatery press for your deltoids/and squats for your legs......the exercises iv been doing are them...there realy good but im confused on chest....

  • you are awsesome . you look 40. keep at it you inspire, rock on.

  • @thedoors360 - thanks so much for the very kind compliment. Baz

  • make a video on whats your diet for abs???

  • @915olivares1 - there is a nutrition video and one on fat burn so you can have good looking abs. Baz

  • Bloke.

  • @jimbojo87 - ??? must be good. lol. Baz

  • @BazBlog lol yes mate, it's a good thing!

  • @jimbojo87 - cheers. Baz

  • first Baz thx for the great video, second i have been trainning for 1 year my strength is groing up but my muscles aren't as much as big as i want!! i don't use and protiens or vitamins just natural food!!! i would like to know why is that problem!! and really thx for the videos i'm using the moves i teached form them!! :)

  • @elephantfil - if after a year you cannot see a good change then you are clearly doing something wrong. I will send you a plan and you can check it against what you are doing. Normal food is fine provided you are getting the right amount of protein and carbs. Baz

  • thanks. i'll try!

  • @BOTCT - good luck with it my friend. Baz

  • Your the best Baz, keep on making more and more videos!!

  • @MrMas0ud - Thanks very much for the compliment. Baz

  • i can do more then that n im 13

  • @adzx1 - so what. I am nearly 60 doing a video with very light weight to help others. It is not to prove anything or show off. I really have very little time for people who think they are heros. Baz

  • Wud like to point out that if you wish for a constant tension on the chest, dont lock out at the top. Also, for people with shoulder problems etc, and to prevent them, dont bring the bar all the way down to ur chest. Try this to see what am tryna say, pretend you are holding the bar up then bring it down so that the bar touches your chest ... take a look at the position of your shoulder. its not a natural and causes great stress! :]

  • @Hiiiphop - thanks for your thoughts on this. Baz

  • Great advice!

  • @kevinrb100 - thanks so much. Baz

  • i like the idea of squeezing the muscle to become conscious of what to focus on, good tip

  • @s4ur2fe0r - thanks. Yes I think if you are concious about the muscle you are working the more you can focus on it and the better the result. Baz

  • is it true that the upper chest makes ur chest look bigger?? .. my upper looks so skinny cuz my bottom chest is so big due to only doing flat bench

  • @DGKBOYZ - Upper chest gives you a much fuller look. You need to do a fair amount of incline bench press along with incline flys and that will round your chest up. Baz

  • oh my god is that really you baz? you look more youthful now! :O

  • @Osvis99 - well I had just started with my proper training plan. Baz

  • oh my god is that you baz?? :D

  • @Osvis99 - Yes it is not long after I started. Baz

  • have you ever done benching 7's? i find it very useful and a good challenge

  • @ryan215553 - yes I have done a sort of 7's but not quite a proper 7's. I should imagine it would be very challenging. Baz

  • i rekon you should be a personal trainer

  • @johno294 - well I actully do help quite a few people in different parts of the world as their personal trainer. Baz

  • I'm just writing to say thanks, I was worrying that I wasn't doing things properly, I'm glad I've found some great advice which shows me that I'm actually doing things correctly, thanks once again

  • @monsnap1 - that is great. A lot of the times if you just use common sense then you will do it properly anyway. Well done and good luck with your training. Baz

  • Hi, I am a fairly advanced in bodybuilding, the problems I have been having is always incredibly unproportional chest. The rest of the body grew large, fast. Chest lags behind badly :(. Any tips? Ive heard experts saying to restrict range of motion, and to move to dumbbells instead of BB. Any other tips would be appreciated.

  • @samuils - I would focus 2 times a week doing around 6 sets of normal bench press 8-12 reps. Full motion. You need the chest to really work. I would not lock out the chest as you will want to keep tension on the muscle and hold for the count of 2 at the top and the same at the bottom. Try that for a while and see how it goes. Barbell or dumbbell for me does not make a big difference. I guess whatever is more comfortable for you. Baz

  • Hi, i am a 16 year old asian and i have started to build my muscles but i have trained my arms before chest. What can i do?

  • @hgderg - It is always best to train the biggest muscles first. If future train chest then arms. If you are doing both biceps and triceps then do triceps first then biceps. Baz

  • When I do benchpress I find that when I'm done, my chest dosen't feel that worked at all. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I bench 100 lbs, for 15 reps.

  • @AnchorHobo - You should feel it while you are training. It might feel like you have not trained about an hour after you stop. I would say do 5/6 sets with 12 reps. Go heavier if you can manage that too easily. You need to be really struggling with the last 2 set from about 7/8 reps. You should almost fail with the last 2 sets if you are pushing. Baz

  • Could anyone please answer me on this one. I'm 15 years old, I'm not overweight, and I do not have muscles, AT ALL. I take about 5 kilos with dumbells 30 on each hand, there it stops. But my question is: If I want to really start to build my muscles, do I need to start on all these diets, protein bars and protein shakes? And also, If I'm looking to build the arm muscles, do I also have to train the back and leg muscles?

  • @gellycrock - I will send you a training plan that will help to get you started. Baz

  • Thanks for this man :)

  • @sodalaneFIN - pleasure my friend and good luck with your training. Baz

  • thanx!! so the other way around and im working my chest properly... those 3 exercises r enough?

  • @tarzanjungle80 - Yes I am sure that would work. Do it for a few months then change to another set of exercises so you keep growing. Baz

  • @BazBlog THNX A LOT...........

  • @tarzanjungle80 - Pleasure m8. Baz

  • it's important to note that the bar should be right over the nipple line

  • @CIarKent - Great tip and reminder. Baz

  • wow you look so different than you do now, its so neat to see how you've progressed over the the time you made this video

  • @DimeRB2496 - yes this was in the very early days after I had only been training a few months. Baz

  • @BazBlog i usually do 4 sets of closed hands benching then 4 sets as wide as i can n then 3 shoulder width really heavy..... am i doing it the right way for inner and outer chest...

  • @tarzanjungle80 - I would do it the other way around. If you do narrow grip you will be working the triceps more and you will not have the strength in them to work the chest muscle properly. Always do the wide grip chest workouts first so you have fresh triceps to do the exercise properly. Baz

  • Your the man baz! Keep them coming

  • @Greenbodybuilding - thanks very much and that is very nice of you to say. Baz

  • Good advice Baz! Learning to activate the muscle (Mind in the muscle) is very important. However try not to bring your shoulders out and protract your scapula, but besides this it's all good.

  • @bicaj05 - thanks for the comment. I like to try to flex the pecs and that requires you to protact your scapula. It is not what I do for every work out but do like to do it every now and again. Thanks anyway. Baz

  • @BazBlog Scapula protraction isn't required for pectoral flexion as it only activates the pectoralis minor and serratus anterior and has nothing to do with pectoralis major, as long as you mimick the action of trying to push your hands together while holding the bar the chest should activate to the full extent.

  • @bicaj05 - wonderful you do it the way you feel it is best for you. I am really happy with how I do it. Thanks for the comment. Baz

  • does making chest muscles make ur chestt flabb deteriarate

  • @razahjaved - you need to eat right to lose fat. Training will help a bit but a combination of aerobics and food is the key. Have a look at the nutrition video on bazblog. Baz

  • great vid, keep it up!

  • @smileyb10 - Thanks very much for that. Baz

  • great video sir , gonna sub

  • @blackutube1 - thanks very much and thank you for the sub. Baz

  • @2AppleCommunity - yes there is a video on upper body training while on holiday. It shows some press ups with a back pack. That is a great way to work your chest with very limited equipment. Baz

  • Baz your the man, finally someone focuses more on form than how much weight they can lift, great videos man keep em coming

  • @DinoAGrado - thanks very much. I have always believed it is not about how much you lift but more how well you lift. Thanks for the support. Baz

  • thanks mate, keep the videos going, please! Just before going to sleep is the perfect time for working out for me anyway.

  • @ryanclayts - brilliant and good luck with it pal. Baz

  • You're a legend, a true helper, I'm preparing for summer, and you've been that perfect piece of motivation especially after a long day at school or after a big study session. What I would like to know is is there a limit of to when I shouldn't workout before going to sleep?

  • @ryanclayts - that is so nice of you to make such a wonderful comment. Thanks very much. I think you can train last thing just before you go to sleep if you want to. You must work out what is the best time for you so you get the most out of it. Baz

  • I actually encountered the train chest before arms problem the other day :O! If only I watched your video first!

Also my current regime is 3 different activites per muscle group (e.g. Bicep: Bicep Curl, Hammer Curl, Supination Curl), 3 sets of 6-8 reps. Do you think this is a good way to build muscle mass?

  • @Tautologically - that sounds fine. You can only try it for a little while and see how it goes. I prefer only 1 or 2 exercises per muscle and I do vary reps and weight. I do like 5/6 sets per muscle with a superset. Some sets will be 12 reps lighter weight going heavier to about 6 reps, then back to 12 reps with a superset. That works for me. Baz

  • hello,

the problem I have is due to much digging for airsoft camps my arms are infact already trained but my chest isn't... Now do I need to try another workout or something? or can I just do this one?

    thx already

  • @palangera - A normal flat bench press is probably the best way to train your chest. You can use a barbell or a set of dumbbells they are both very good. Baz

  • thanks

  • @KSboyZ123 - Pleasure. Baz

  • how about the other parts of the body?

  • @KSboyZ123- I only measured thigh-near the top of the leg. Waist-around the naval area. Biceps-the peak of the bicep. Chest-nipple area. You can also measure calves. That is about all the places I have measured. Some people like to measure the neck too. It is up to you. Baz

  • I did not measure at first but i will do so now. btw do u know where i should measure?

  • @KSboyZ123 - I find that you measure around the nipple area. Not lower or higher. then you have a fixed place each time you measure to see how you are progressing. Baz

  • thanks for the advice btw ive been following your diet for a week but ive put on weight. is it normal?

  • @KSboyZ123 - It depends. A fist size is a guide. If you want to lose weight you should reduce the carbs to 3/4 or 1/2 fist size and if you want to gain then increase the carbs right up to 2 fist sizes. We are all different. If you are training hard you could be losing body fat and gaining muscle and fat takes up about 5 times the space of the same weight in muscle. When you start you must measure and weight your self. The inches could come down but the weight could might go up. Baz

  • hey baz, wher should i put my hands? is it better if my hands are placed wider apart?

  • @KSboyZ123 - Yes if you want to train the pecs properly then go wide. The closer you put your hands the more you will train your triceps. Baz

  • Baz I love your videos. I have a question. Is it possible to build a chest without equipment? I know that sounds silly to ask but my flat is incredibly tiny and I dont have room for benches and such. I can easily do 150 pushups, so I dont know what else I can do without equipment. Thanks

  • @sqitso - thank you. Yes you can build a chest. You will need to get a back pack and fill it with bottles of water or other weight so you have a lot of resistance doing the push ups. Loose weights do not take up room so you can even do some weight training. I do not have much room in my garage and have a load of stuff in there. Baz

  • is it ok if i dont lie completly flat?

  • @cdnowuk48 - I am not sure I understand what you mean so I am going to guess. Your back must be flat on the bench and do not arch your back at all. If you mean incline or flat that is up to you. I think flat is one of the best exercises you can do though. Baz.

  • hey baz. what if i use a curved bar?

  • @KSboyZ123 - so long as you can get the correct movement and a wide enough hand placement then it should not be a problem. Baz

  • mate ur lifting somet i can lift with my penis wats that 20 kg

i think you shud pak it in lol

  • @bthirty4 - you must be very strong. For the video I go light to show the exercise not to try to impress people. I also do this for me and at my age am extremly pleased with how I look and I hope when you get to 59 you will be able to help others the correct way. Baz

  • umm yeah just a question, how do you lose the access skin that hangs on the side of my chest?is there a certain workout that could help me with that?

  • @Gele95 - It sounds like you have lost weight very quickly. That is normally the problem and why it is not good to lose too quick. You will have to just keep training and hopefully you have not lost the elasticity of the skin and it will shrink. I would also take some vitamin E oil. That does help but is not a guarantee. Baz

  • wow, and look at your results! impressive!

    lol

  • @smokkapi - thanks very much. It did not take that long. You can have a big change in around 120 days if you eat and train right. Baz

  • Hi, ive watched all your videos, Im nearly 18. cutting the fat and also alot of cardio working but trying to get big, just some advice. Do you believe in working one muscle part each day gym sessions.

Example. Monday, Biceps. Tuesday, traps .... So on, Thanks :)

  • @1992njl - You are the right age to train hard now. I will send you a training plan. It will show you that you can train every day but not overtrain a muscle. You will also need to eat right to get the best resutls. Have a look at the nutrition video and get some eating ideas from that. Baz

  • @BazBlog thanks :) ive been writing a small plan out but was just weary about training a muscle to much as you said it needs at least 40 + hours to repair and build

  • @1992njl - You should be ok with some of the ideas I have sent you. Make sure you are eating right and you have enough rest. This will help you to build quite quickly. Let me know if you need more help. Baz

  • heres a question. Does it matter if u dont have huge muscles>

  • @Dozer12221- not at all. If you just want to look good for yourself that is what it is all about. You should not do things to try to impress others. There are too many show offs in a lot of the gyms around. Training is one of the things that gives a lot of personal satisfaction. A bit thing is if you can help others or at least try to you will feel even better about yourself regardless of what others think or say. Go for it for your self and good luck my friend. Baz

  • @BazBlog Thanks for helpin me. Thats great advice and i appreciate the honesty. And i couldnt agree more about the show offs in the gyms. Thanks for the help

  • @Dozer12221 - pleasure my friend and good luck with your training and always also remember that everyone has to start somewhere. It does not matter where you are right now what counts is where you are going. Baz

  • i like these videos cause they are practical and helpful, not some already huge guys showing off, but information anyone can use

  • @KillaCaff1 - thank you for the comment. I try to show that any ordinary guy can make a nice change if they want to. It just takes a bit of effort and a lot of common sense. Not all the hype that people like to put on it to make it sound non achievable and only for a few select. Baz

  • @BazBlog very very usefull thank you man i have been doing it and i am getting good results.

  • @jbx7777- that is so good to hear. I am glad you are getting good results. Cheers Baz

  • nice grandpa

  • @bevin321- thank you. Yes my oldest grandson is 17 so the years are passing. Baz

  • Excellent video, thanks for your tips.

Can you tell me about where you place your feet when doing bench press? I am only 5' 5" tall, and on my weight bench, my feet can't touch the floor when I bench press. Do I just keep my legs straight forward and hanging anyway, or place legs on either side of bench so they are flat on the floor? Does it even matter? Both ways feel awkward. LOL

    Thanks!

  • @tester8888

You can put your feet up on the end of the bench. I really beleive you back must be flat on the bench and do not arch your back although I have seen some people teach that. I think you put too much unnecessary strain on your shoulders etc if you arch your back so keep it flat. Baz

  • sorry but I need to critique your advise,if your feet dont touch the floor you should use a step or stable blocks to place your feet on, dont ever put your feet on the bench, as for your shoulder concerns, the bench is only 10" wide and you need to compensate for that, you do this by keeping your shoulder blades together, this will lower your range of motion and give you a more solid base to push against. also maintain the natural curvature of your spine, the term is called "blocking"good luck.

  • @darock44444444 - Sorry I love advice and information about training but you talking about something that was not mentioned about feet off the floor and on the bench.???? I also went to your site and notice there is nothing on it. Baz

  • I was making a reference to the advise you gave to tester8888, regarding putting his feet on the bench if his couldn't reach, there is nothing too dangerous about putting your feet on the bench with lighter weight, but as he progresses with heavier weights he will need to modify his setup to prevent any injury, adjusting your balance while lifting heavy can interrupt your "reflex nerve" the one responsible for telling your brain how much your lifting. this interuption can cause a tendent tear.

  • @darock44444444 - Ok I am with you. I got this from the master. Arnolds Bodybuilding for Men Page 198. I guess things must have changed as this was around the 80's. I do appreciate your advice. I have had a look at your site and notice you have nothing on it it. Perhaps you should be sharing this kind of information with others as i noticed you seem to critique a lot of sites. Baz

  • thanks , baz, im kind of in the middle of doing just that, I've been asked by many people to help them, and was told years ago I should train people, so I took their advise and decided to start my own personal training company, Im nearly finished my masters in personal training, including, kinesiology, biomechanics, nutrition, ect, ect. I want an extensive knowledge base before I train anyone, I love to help, and have trained many people for free. I just want to pass on what ive learned.thanks again

  • @darock44444444That is fantastic and good to hear. Baz

  • when, I get everything together, Ill update my profile. i've updated some information since you mentioned it. I left my email and some info about me, if you need anything, id be happy to pass it on. if I don't know the answer to your questions, ill find someone with more knowledge than me who does. thanks again. take care.

  • @darock44444444 - thanks a ton. Baz

  • @darock44444444

sorry to critque you on YOUR advise, but the quote "dont ever put your feet on the bench" is most idiotic.

Attempting to maintin the natural curve of the spine is very very risky.

Keeping your feet on the bench as if you were doing situps keeps your back flat and your back will not suffer any tension.

I've seen too many guys put alot of weight on the bench, and complain about lower back problems shortly after.

Feet UP! keep perfect form, and keep your head from pressing

  • @chikewaa - Putting your feet on the bench is not a good idea. You are right about the back etc. You are dealing with a very narrow bench that has not enough width for the weights most people are lifting. It is dangerous and unstable and you will cause yourself an injury. Feet square on the groung is the best way to be safe. It is up to you though do what you believe to be right. It is fine if you are doing very light weight. Baz

  • well ive learned how to balance my diet i didnt cut down on protein i just ate more vegi's and cut down on workin out haha so thanks baz ;)

  • @YouGottaLoveMusis

That is great and I really hope you will get some excellent resutls now with your training and eating. Baz

  • awesome

  • Thank you very much. Baz

  • when you say train chest first, do you mean for that day or to start working on your chest for a couple of days then go train other muscles?

  • No on the day that you train a few muscles say chest, back and shoulders or chest and arms. Make sure you do the chest first. Baz

  • Good video!

  • Thank you very much. Baz

  • Thanks...I find yo advice really helpfull and quite precise. Is it advisable to work the chest followed by the biceps or would you rather work yo chest then the triceps?

  • Thank you. You must always work chest first because they are such big muscles and you use secondary muscles to assist with the training. If you do shoulders or arms (especially triceps) first you will not have the strength to work the chest properly. Baz

  • hey mate. quite good video. i jus want it to ask. everytime i do this excercise how come i don feeel anythin on ma chest ? but i do feel burn on ma triceps. and how long does it take to get a good chest if i keep this excise. plz tell me how many reps i should do..thnkx a adavnce..

  • Thank you. You do work the triceps to a degree when you do bench press as well as the shoulders. You might have to do some work on them as they might not be strong enough that is why you feel it in the triceps. Have a go at doing some flys for the chest. You do not use much of the triceps so you should feel it more in the chest. I will send you the kind of reps and set I do for all my training. Baz

  • i have extremely bad mood swings, but i eat loads i eat alot of tuna everyday, i have my whey protein shake. and my other meals i try 2 make everythin a protein meal n i work out everyday.

  • It sounds like your meals are not balanced and you are overeating on protein. You need to eat a balanced meal which will then keep your moods level. Have a look at the nutrition video on bazblog and then come back to me if you still have a problem. Baz

  • i feel pressured to take dbol should i do it? or will cell tech give me just as good of gainz

  • I do not know cell tech but I do know that free weights work really well to build a great chest. I like dumbbells as you can make adjustments with the lift so there is no strain on any joints etc. Baz

  • how long does it take too see the result if i train 4 times a week?

  • A lot depends on your genes and how quick your body will respond. I have found the average person will see good changes within 4 months if the person is eating right and training right. Baz

  • thx..what would be the right way of eating? is it the 6 meals per day program?

  • Yes eating 6 meals a day will give you energy help you to eat off the fat as your body will not hold on to it as you are eating often. It will help with your moods as your blood sugar will stay more constant. You will grow better because you are feeding your muscles. Baz

  • thank you. thank you. thanks.

  • That is a pleasure my friend. Baz

  • ur not supposed to lock out on top it will strain ur triceps

  • I have never found that. I focus on the chest and get the chest to do all the work. My triceps certainly are not working at all at the top when I am trying to flex so I can get that extra bit from bench presses. If you are straining your triceps you must be doing something wrong. Baz

  • yes thx M8 , i have now a Gym ball and it work great :) thank you Baz .
