You know what I LOVE about this? That he actually cares about the material! He can even give you episode names, character names and plot points on a job he had over 10 years ago. So many actors couldn't give a damn about "the world" and every time you ask them about their characters, they just smirk at you like you're a little boy. I bet you could actually ask him a Garak question, an inner-character question about Garak and he could answer you! Thank you so much for caring!
@sunnchilde That's *exactly* what I was thinking, where he was talking about Cardassians and the Obsidian Order, and it just reminds me how much many other Trek actors would talk about "that race" or "that episode". I really encourage you to read A Stitch in Time if you haven't already; it's a novel by Andrew J Robinson with Garak's backstory, and it is absolutely brilliant.
The only Trek novel I'd encourage a non Star Trek fan to read; it stands on its own,
I can understand him saying he had problems finding roles after the original Dirty Harry killer. I would see him in other parts and still think of him as that killer & never liked him. Then when I started watching DS9 I liked the Garak character but still thought there was something about him I didn't like. It was his eyes and voice but I wasn't placing him due to the makeup. I finally looked up his name and then realized who he was. But I still love his character on DS9 & his strange humor.
@zazzooooo thats amazing. Thats what happened to me too, in a more unconventional way I guess, with Jude Law. He played Oscar Wilde's lover(Bosie) in a movie a long time ago and since I hate Bosie I would get a gut reaction every time I saw Jude Law. It took Sherlock Holmes for me to "forgive" Jude Law and even then I sat there in the premiere mumbling about how Jude Law couldnt be a good Watson! lol

The reptillian brain controls basic survival functions along with the spinal chord. It is responsible for "must eat food", "must breath in and out", "must not go near the dangerous looking predator" and so on. It's called the reptillian brain because reptiles were the first of our evolutionary ancestors with a "modern" example like humans have.
It seemed to me that their was some rumors circulating that Garak was bisexual.

@disamjisa Thanks. I do have the book. I just haven't read it yet. It got packed away when I moved.

I don't think there would be a Garak without Andy Robinson
Melbachiever 11 months ago 37
@Melbachiever Agreed, he played the part to perfection.

There is so little of Andy's point of view of Garak online. It's a shame.
caitlindoteiza 1 year ago 3
Garak is one of the best characters in Ds9.
I'm glad he didn't get the Odo part, no one could portrait Garak better than Andrew. and besides in my opinion Odo wasn't an interesting character

@g0vner yeah odo was terrible tbh
