  • Notice how it's colouration is very dull, and it's eye scale lenses are opaque. It was not far of shedding it's skin and could barely see you at all.

You should also note, that males in spring's breeding season can be uncharacteristically aggressive. They will stand their ground, and can get a bit lairy if you get too close.

Keep up the good work though.

  • I dont like snakes - but really good video!!

  • Ho have I not seen this film mate?! Congrats, a wonderful example of what friendly, inquisitive and un-demonstrative animals Adders are. Keep em coming mate and hope the 2010 surveys are going well.

    Ben

  • @benwaddams Thanks Ben. Survey is going well so far mate. Seen more adders so far, when compared to last year, so the cold spell obviously didn't affect them to the extent I thought it would.

I have a snake kiss mk2, 2010, will upload soon.

    Rob

  • Appreciate the information you provided and your messages that snakes are not monsters.

Keep up the good work, take care of yourself and don't get bitten.

  • Thanks Mid12nt, glad you liked it.

  • @Mid12nt I will try not to! Thanks for the comment.

  • An interesting encounter, I would have given it a bit more space had I come across it :-)

  • Thanks Mike. They are my passion, I just love um.

  • Great video,Thanks for the comment.

  • I cycle daily on the family cycle trail and a grass snake came from nowhere in front of my bike and I nearly ran it over. Thank goodness for disc brakes.

  • Good man, I like your style! Snakes rock!

  • Exactly

  • Yea, its a shame.

Ive only ever come across one Adder which was a small juvi last year. The only native snake ive ever found, And I go searching a lot.

Plenty of the slowies around here though.

  • Wow, He's a curious guy isnt he?

Great video, Ive had no luck at all so far this summer with these guys.

    Nice video!

  • Thanks Dan,

Same here, not a lot around compaired to the last few seasons and I was hoping for a good year as last year was low on numbers. Hopefully this is not widespread decline!!!

  • are adders usually like this ? i always go out looking for them in my local area and always see grass snakes but the adders seem too wary and quick and never get a good look at them !

  • This adder was in the sloughing process and his vision was severely impared.

It is rare to see them out in the open like this and it is only because he could not make us out properly that he stayed put.

Out of all my snake encounters, I have never had one like this before and will probably never have one again, remarkable.

  • i like the hissing....hope he got away ok...

  • Look at my video snake moving in the grass, its the same snake and you can see for yourself that he moved off

  • Very nive ;) but he hadnt no hiden places at that moment, and as a youung "snake-ekspert" i can tell that: that snake is whry pissed of! but awsome video! :P

  • Cheers,

He wasn't upset, just defensive as he was looking into a camera. As I said in the description, there was nothing stopping him from moving away.

As you can see by my video snake moving through the grass, he had plenty of places to hide (same snake). Thanks for the comment.

  • Wow what a video, how did you get that close man? Thought it was going to strike a couple of times! Awesome, this is the best video I have seen of an adder standing his ground.

  • Thanks FRN
