Hard to convey the significance of this sweet pop song at the time. Most other Australian groups were doing ROCK (AC/DC, Cold Chisel, Rose Tattoo etc.) or crap pop (Billy Field was one of the big acts of the time). Then...this comes out. Melodic and uplifting. He had a unique, international style, and it should have been a hit all over the world.
Rest in Peace James - another talent lost to depression and alcoholism. We lost Paul Hester at 46, 5 years ago and now James. So very sad, thanks so very much for the music.
Today 4th November 2010 James Freud, singer with Australian rock band Models, has died. The 51 year old was found by his family at his home in Melbourne Australia this morning. According to unconfirmed reports the musician committed suicide.
Read his 1st book and it was hilarious (Gary Neuman, "Cars", farts, hamburgers) and sad. Remember thinking that Models didnt have lots of hits but damn, they had tunes. 'Hold On' is still the most uplifting tune. James.........words fail me. You and your music defined my teenage years and for that I personally thank you mate. A true rock star, cheers,
Gee, I remember bouncing around in the living room as a kid to this on Countdown and LOVING it. Today's news was a 'WTF' moment, and I dont shock easily. After reading his 1st book it answered a lot of questions and makes me value those family hols to Coffs Harbour with "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" with only one tape in the car..........and sitting through those extended mixes :-) I dont care about them as James gave us some of the most amazing tunes......
Hi too all who read this he was,is a great man brilliant mind and sole some of the most ground braking song writer's in Australian music ,80,90s Barbados -modern girl, two cabs to the toucan,Out of Mind, Out of Sight, are in the 80s hall of fame...
make no mistakes about this man with his looks moves and charisma will always be unmarketable brilliant , the hard knocks were never taken lightly
I know it's a bit cheesy but so were the eighties. Song of the decade. R.I.P mate
