I donno I carry about 25 kilos when I am on boyscout trip, but I am not sure if I can run with it for 15mnts, so I think that 15-20 is ideal bugging out weight for stuff.
Come see me plant trees 40 pounds all day with a fkn smoke in my mouth, floating over the clear cuts and 10 foot high slash stoned out of my fucking head. 52 pounds for a few hours in a nice wrap ain't shit.
I got the osprey 70, it seats 60 pounds no problem, its ALL about the pack you wear, internal frame is best, that maxpedition shit isn't ergonomic. The water is not a good example, the weight needs to be properly distributed with the most weight closest to your person receeding outwards, a properly packed bag can reduce weight significantly. I've treeplanted for 7 years 40 pound bags ALL DAY in torrential rain up a fkn mountain with bugs eating me, get in shape and don't worry about it
it's going to suck. the basic rule of marching with a rucksack in the military it to have it the highest as possible. so it makes you want to move forward besides fighting you the whole way. which is what a "shelf" would do. you should rethink it.
Hey.I used this method for fuel oil once.I have a fuel oil furnace and ran out of oil in a snow storm and hiked to the local speedway gas station and filled my yellow 5-gallon can up with deisel -yes deisel works good in place of fuel oil and is cheaper than kero that also works-and made it back home to make it warm for a good 24-hours.I never thought to use it for water though.GREAT use of those things we se every day and think we cant use them in any other manner because we (think we cant)
@beast12101 Aussies tend to carry a fair bit of kit given our water situation at times needing both cold and hot climate kit aswell, if you train up and have a little heart its not so bad but carrying a million canteens sucks, conditioning is important and overlooked
That jug looks like it sits a little low for good balance and comfort with that frame. I've always tried to put a good portion of the weight high in my ALICE pack and wear it as high on my shoulders as I can. Without doing that it feels like it's pulling me backwards as the weight is behind my center of gravity. Up near the shoulders the back can flex forward to put the weight over the natural center of gravity or forward of it for running.
After a major emergency, you will find out who are your "friends" and how neighborly your "neighbor" really is. Don't think you can just show up at a friends house with your wife and kids with only the clothes on your back and expect them to be happy you showed up to stay at their house and eat their food. They might be worse off than you are as far as having water and food supplies. I plan on bugging in for at least a few weeks, wait for the highways and roads to clear up before bugging out.
@GTVAlfaMan Actually We have done it already.. and it wasn't a big deal it worked both ways more then once.. flood ect might not be omg everyone run for the hills but it works both ways if you are really good friends and have talked about it for years and years and they built an extra cabin/guest house..
@haha48 glad to hear it, I hope your friend in NZ is doing well. It looks like they faired a lot better then Haiti, better build structures sure help.
Great video, you really opened my eyes. I just recently started stocking up on food, fuel and water. I have about 50 gallons of water, 45 gallons of gasoline and enough propane to last a few months. I am still adding to my food storage items every time I visit Wally World. My wife thinks I am crazy but she will be thanking me if we ever need this food and fuel after a big earthquake here in California. Anyway, I will keep adding to my existing supplies and hope for the best. Thanks.
heres the thing.. what happens if your house is destroyed in the earthquake fire after ect.. you can prepare for everything but have a backup plan ie going to friends ect..
Alright, this sounds like a great plan. As soon as I get my weekend I post a video reply to this video. I know my back might hand my ass to me but I'll do it.
Thanks for uploading this series. One of the best Bug Out series on youtube in my opinion.
I'd love to make a vid of me carrying my bug out gear, but I have most of my bug out bags on a large fishingtrolley that I can actually take with me on the trail (large rubber tires). Saves me alot of backproblems. I only have about 18 lbs of gear in my backpack.
Thanks again for uploading these vids, I enjoyed 'em all and got alot of great new ideas from them. 5/5
Excellent, I really like the idea of getting out there and trying the ideas and equipment. This is where I am going with my Ghostkamo vids. I really appreciate your vids, keep them coming. You have really good ideas that can help us refine our ideas.
My bug out bag is a work in progress. First it was just some items I'd need to bug out with my car, then I started moving into camping gear as well. Now it's mostly camping gear. For water I carry an old plastic 2ltr soda bottle that I refill every 3 months. I have a hydration bag and water filter system to fill it. I'm working toward using lighter weight items. I want to ditch the wool blanket and get an ultra lightweight sleeping bag and air mattress. I want an ultra light alcohol stove too.
this was a great series!! i loved it! i wish it would keep coming and continue on, but i guess all great things must come to an end. amazing job beast!!!
Love the "challenge" for viewers to actually hump their packs. I can't wait to see those! Reality will be a bitch and may be some people will be motivated to get into shape! Thanks for the vids--they are great!

@buckstarchaser that works for tents and things, but a 52 pound water jug aint going anywhere comfortably
beast12101 1 year ago
@beast12101 I think this is a great excuse to put a few barrels under our downspouts to load up on free rainwater.
