  • kennedys planes tail number was 26000!

  • Yes, this was the official Presidential aircraft when Ike's Columbine III (a Super-Connie) was retired as JFK was sworn in. The Air Force had three VC-137A (Boeing 707-153), but these were part of the general VIP airlift pool, not reserved for POTUS use alone. The "true" AF1 (#26000), a VC-137C wasn't in service till late 1962.

  • any aircraft the president flies on is designated air force one

  • Any airframe the President fly's in is number one.

  • that air force one is so small

  • is this airforce one still air worthy. I mean can it still fly is mechanicaly sound?

  • Kennedy's Air Force One was a Boeing 707

  • This one is in Tucson Az> Pima Air Museum.

  • Just a point here. The plane was the primary one used by Kennedy and Johnson. The point I wish to make is that there is no plane that is exclusively air force one. Any plane that the president is riding in is considered air force one while the president is aboard, even if its a lowly Piper Cub.

  • @compukenny correct m8-air force one stops being af1 once the pres is off, even helicopters carrying him are then labelled af1-even though the plane is a symbol of the office,it is similar to the queen, wherever the queen is staying they fly a flag called the royal standard, and it isnt allowed to fly at buckingham palace unless she is inside

  • Dear All,

I have some questions about psychology and sociology:

    (1) Why do aeroplane is a representation of US?

    (2) What social values does the Air Force One represent?

    (3) Why do presidents of USA love to fly so much? (other country leader do not fly as frequent as those US presidents)

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

  • @applesweeter why do you have such an inferior complex about us, and the fact we use aviation as a tool of doing business and running the world? The USA is a very large land mass, and it's president must fly 9 hours to get from one end to the other. We have sub-human swine called Muslims who wish to rule the world with stone age and brutal concepts, and therefor we need a protective line of aircraft like our 747 fleet to take him and the many people that support his mission when he travels.

  • @ILIGANO

About the terrorist matter, do you think that those 911 terrorist choose Boeing 767 jets as weapon because aeroplanes represent freedom, techology and human intellengence?

I mean by destroying aeroplanes, they can rule the world in stone age and brutal concept.

  • Next Air Force One: A380. jk

  • The 707 in Renton is actually Airforce II, belonging to the office of the Vice President (LBJ)..JFK never flew this one.

Some of LBJ's effects are still on board ( including a paper on his desk outlining his instructions to Oswald with a subtext to Ruby)..and a "note to self" " call Hoover "right after"...to figure out next steps.."Warren will be good".....love LBJ (President!....god that sounds good!..number 36 ..yeah!! I like it!.).

.It sits besides a retired Concorde..great little Museum.

  • Where is this plane on display ? They have the original AF 1 on display at Wright Patterson AF base. The one at Wright Patterson is a jet.

  • the plane in Renton stil has the wallpaper and bathroom fixtures selected by Jackie.

  • This is clearly a DC7.. a stop gap plane between the prop era and the first deliverys of the 707. The first 707 was delivered in late 1961, early 1962. The fleet of 707s were in service until 1990 when the 747 varient was delivered. There are 3 707 presidential aircraft open to the public.. they are at Dayton Ohio, Boeing Museum in Renton Wa, and at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley CA. Interesting to note, the 707 in Renton

  • The 707 is not in Renton, WA it is in Seattle at the Museum of Flight, located on Boeing Field/ King County International Airport.

  • If you pause at 0:13 you can clearly see propellers not jet engines. This plane was used by Kennedy and Johnson yes, but the 707 was used from Kennedy until Clinton. This plane was replaced by the 707 just as the 707 was replaced by the 747. This plane is NOT the 707.

  • I see why they upgraded to the 747's. Those 707's were VERY small.

  • its not a 707 its a prop plane

  • Cool, thanks for sharing!

  • That doesn't change the fact 707's were very small. This IS an exact replica of the planes used up until the Bush era, so I rest my case.

  • @Dahrol DC-7 was discontinued in 1968

  • Any AF plane the president is on carries the call sign Air Force One. In the early '60s the fleet of planes included prop engine planes. The plane that carried JFK to Texas and back in Nov. '63 was the first jet powered presidential plane delivered during his first year as president.

  • The plane Kennedy arrived in Dallas in had engines, this has propellers?

  • Hey - this is NOT Air Force One - check the tail numbers - Kennedy's Air Force One was "26000"

  • I believe you are thinking of the plane in the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. Take a look at the video called "Air Force Museum - The Presidents". The plane in Dayton is the one that carried the President's body back from Dallas.

  • @faja8792 I just noticed that too. Would be interesting to see the 'real' one.

  • My 2nd cousin was crew chiefe on this very aircraft! He has all sort of stuff they used to hand out to the press and dignataries(sp). Everying from Presidential candies to.. yes even Cigaretts with the Presidenial Seal on the pack! Thanks for posting. My Cousin was Marvin Tschirhardt

  • There is also a small jet to the front of it that Kennedy complained about it being so small, he called it Air Force One-Half lol

  • That's cool..Where is this at?

  • Pima Air and Space Museum in Tuscon, Arizona. I've been on this bird, it's really cool to look at in person. :)
