Very sad.. 2 Years today.. i always skied since i was a boy.. at 17 i left ski races and preferred girls to ski (bad choice!).. in 2002 searching for base jumping videos i fount "there is something about shane mcconkey DVD".. it was love.. after 5 years of stop i bought a second hand twintip skies and begin freestyle tricks, freeride, snowboard and now telemark.. i don't want to imagine what could be my live without that DVD..

if you got a ski attached to your leg you cant pull your pilot chute beacause it will get caught on the ski. once the ski didnt come off shanes only goal was to achieve a snag free deployment and he just didnt have enough time. if he had pulled the chute he couldve made it but with very slight chances. had he pulled it and it got caught everyone would be sitting here saying why didnt he try to get that ski off before he deployed?

To all those who are asking why he didn't deploy his shoot, the answer is simple. When he went off he did two backflips, So he's already well on his way down the cliff. When he tried to release his skis one didn't release and sent him to a spin. You're first instinct when you're trying to get the shot is to get the other ski off, but by the time he did that he was too close to the ground. Base jumping is a matter of seconds. If given 3-5 more seconds, he probably would have lived. RIP Shane.

@invisiblebears He wasn`t in a spin it was nothing like this, the problem was he could not release his skis and start flying with the wingsuit. After few seconds he managed somehow to get his skis off but was already too low and impacted 1 or 2 seconds later. You cant`t fly a wingsuit with skis on your feets because they`re pulling down your legwing.
