As an asthmatic, i need to exercise indoors. The weight training Mark talks about shouldn't be a problem for me.. but sprinting...? Does anyone know if maxing out on a treadmill is a good idea. My knees are okay for the most part. Should i try moving to a stationary bike to do the short sprints? OR just any advice??
@chidori406 Are you joking? This was a study done by a BRITISH doctor who was in Chinese FARM land, and you're whining about factories and rice? Are you completely devoid of intelligence? A noted connection has been made and can be supported that grains should be limited in a human diet if possible to do. Your badly spelled, all-caps whining somehow negates that, no doubt.
I'm finished here. You obviously just aren't interested in any new scary ideas. Oh no, better pop out the all caps!
Humanity has not evolved to eat grains. We CAN eat grains because we're omnivores, we CAN eat almost anything, but that does not mean "anything" is our natural diet. We evolved to eat roots, the occassionnal wild fruit, and a 20% meat quotient to the 80% gathered. What you find "sad" hardly changes this fact.
And why are you whining about being an old man with 2 years to live? How is that even relevant to the comment?
@chidori406 The same way not eating dairy when you're lactose intolerant does. It makes you feel healthier because it stops draining your internal physical resources in order to digest food that is more difficult for the body to tolerate.
In a farming town in China they had a flour shortage (no breads/baking) & the doctor there noted a VAST increase in vitality from many had-been-mysteriously-ill children he treated. Flour returned months later, and so did the chronic mystery child illness.
@DeadlyChinchilla "The china study" proves an extremely strong correlation between eating wheat and getting cancer. Actually the strongest correlation of cancer with any food.
@chidori406 Its hardly a theory. Corn and grains are NOT part of the natural human diet, and partially cause some of our chronic maladies when it makes up too much of our daily diet. We use corn for everything, corn syrup is even in baby formula. Its being linked in new studies to increases in allergies. Flour, bread, grains, corn, these are good things, but NOT in excess. Think hunter-gatherer, how we evolved. Did we have corn for those 200,000 years? No, we had roots, fruits, and meat.
I've heard those shoes are awesome, but they look terrible... lol! I could only wear them if they weren't a ridiculous color... otherwise, thanks for the idea on sprinting.
I really like your program but I think you as so many others are way off the mark with their NEED for "stretching"! I really doubt that Grok and his peers would jump down from their safety nest after sprinting to safety or after they chased down a kill and think "now I need to stretch out"? Think about it? Has anyone seen a wild animal or domestic animal go thru the gyrations that humans do before or after they have done some exercise or strenous activity?
@docbay0249 Grok would not have 'streched' out from his safety net after they chased down a kill, BUT Mark is saying that when they were resting or sitting, since they didn't have seats and stools like us, that they would have sat the way he showed us. The way he was sitting is in itself a 'stretch'. There you go.
Isnt that useless to use shoes on a beach? even with vibram shoes? where is the sense to use them on a beach? i always run without shoes on the beach in the summer, and there is nothing bad with it
This guy is a beast!!!!! He did what I used to do when I was a competitive sprinter back in the day. We worked a hell of a lot on explosive starts and running up the hills of San Francisco. But mostly it was beach training EXACTLY as what this guy is doing, except we did it with shoes, sometimes with boots. We looked funny but damn did we get fast.
you need to be stretching the muscles that are working the most which are the gastrocnemus and the hamstrings, that stretch only stretches the quads which are only used in the relaxation period of the run.
In addition to closing your knee joint the hamstrings also act to open the hinge of your hip past 180 degrees, so when he pivots his pelvis forward in relation to his thigh he stretches his hamstrings. This is similar to when you're on your back and bring your knee toward your chest - stretching our hamstring.
Actually, that could be a very helpful visualization to make sprinting more fun- running from T2000, ravenous velociraptor, tsunami, low-flying biplane, etc. :)

Just a small not on this comment i know ALOT of flat foot ppl who train sprinting me and my brother did it for a few years hitting the low 10's did bring alot of injury but can be done -_-

Running with bare feet can strengthen your arches even if you have flat feet. They'll probably hurt for a while though
jmart805 3 years ago
There are ways of strengthening your feet by going barefoot that can help your flat feet, but starting slow would be a good idea...
