I loved this place...Largo...The Cap Centre. Many excellent times had there. It was magic. We rocked hard........ ; ) Hello to anyone who remembers those wonderful events there........peace to you.
everybody always says Nancy was the hot one,but you give me 70s Ann any day!! Ahhh Mike Dirhosia(spelled wrong) the true bastard son of John Bonham....
Nancy said waiting for inspiration to move them, like the wind moves a sailboat, gave them the idea for this song. Maybe that's why it's so "moving". I'd like to tell her how much it moves me.
WOW!! This one is amazeing! Sounds almost exactly like the studio version which is my favorite. The clip of mike at the end is awesome! I saw this concert back in 78 or 79 at Rupp Arena in Lex,Ky.They opened with Cook with Fire.I was a 12 yr old girl in awe!! My 2nd live show after KISS.I'm still in awe of Heart! Anne has the greatest Rock voice EVER!!
I have listened to ALL the videos of this song live, and even all the recordings I know of, and this video is the best version (audio-wise) of them all, hands down--nothing can top it! No wonder it has gone from 50k to 60 k views, just since I have been watching it!
I especially like Ann walking backward on those heels about 3:45--what an awesome image!!

Next to "Barracuda" ("Immigrant Song") this is DeRosier's most Bonham-like drum performance and he is flat out kickin' it! Probably my favorite Heart song! Ann's voice was (and still is) so powerful it's like a jet lifting off when it hits the rockin' part of the song. As a bonus, these lyrics are some of Heart's most mysterious and poetic. Epic is the term I think for this one ;-)
This music kept that crappy a-- disco music off the airways after only a few years, thank God for that, I was at this concert and still remember the aroma of pot in the air.
I have been listening and grooving on Heart since 1976. I ALWAYS loved this song. Recently, the Heart website had a blog about writing this song. It was fascinating, about asking Ann to sing part of it up an octave to add excitement to the song, and, yes, it certainly did!
Thanks to Lovesheart for sharing this whole live concert; what a gem!
The vibrato on the diminished or augmented or whatever chord is awesome! It's very hard to do with 13 gauge strings like she has; her hands must be so strong! What an awesome song from the best ladies in rock.
@ledzeprebecca it's not very difficult - she's not baring the full chord and you'll notice the vibrato comes from wiggling the neck more than anything else...try applying vibrato to a half barred F, and shake the neck to add emphasis - that's what she's doing...
Wow...These chicks can rock! I saw them 2 years ago, and they completely ripped my soul apart! Ann is from a different planet I think, she's just way too intense and talented! :)
I was a young teenager when in the 70's I purchased the album "The dog and the butterfly". It still plays on the turntable once in a while and will admit, it aged very well. That is obviously due to the quality of the songs. The band had a good creative vibe then. Too bad they ended up prostituting themselves later with terribly popish material. They did end up making a lot of money during that mid 80's streak but I wonder if they felt like they had sold their soul to the devil (lol).
@grinderman77 Oh for sure. Ann and Nancy complain about it in interviews whenever asked, but it was either do it that way or have no record deal. "Heart" was a massive success with sold out shows, and that sure beats strumming a guitar for quarters at a local bus stop.
This is a mystical song and is my favorite especially since I've experienced something similar in my life! I've been made a crazy dreamer as well...<3
@ArtsAlign Love the song. Chills me as I have experienced this in life and on the water as well, In a small sailboat, you are in no hurry to repeat that experience, just glad to have lived through it.. in life, you just hope to live through it.--DF
This song is mystical. Ann calls it "Another true tale." Little did I know it would become a true tale for me, too! It means so much more now than ever. Any other crazy dreamers out there?
@MrTorpedoFist best song ever written - bar none - I spent my teenage years falling asleep to this as the "butterfly" side of Dog and Butterfly played out on my old record player...I still have the album and this song still blows my mind...one of the most intelligent guitar pieces ever composed too...just perfect in every way....and of course Ann Wilson - jesus what a woman/what a voice!!
There's something about a live version in the same year the song comes out. This is fantastic. She had a great 'moment' right at the end of the song. Thanks for posting :)
Just as I remember it. This is the original "Heart ROCK". YEAH CAKES!!! ....so enjoy it (and revel in your classic memories of that classic time we all know and love) back when everything was gooood. To Ann & Nancy I say THANKYOU for rocking my world.
Roger Fisher is still REALLY good on guitars , both electric & acustic. Where's the vid where he's had enough & breaks his guitar on stage? I think he's grown up a lot.
Classic. My favorite Heart song ever. I saw them on this very tour in 1978.
I agree that no one else has ever written anything like this. I remember an interview with Steve Fossen at the time, predicting this is the song they'd be remembered for one day, because of the innovation.
No one has ever written anything like this. It is magic, poetry! Ann sings it like a priestess casting a powerful spell, and this goes for Nancy's playing as well. "And blow me back to that place, magic space all through me"
@lovesheart You're right, I've never found any clip of Nada One live either, but it's definitely Ann who sings it. She's got the lower register when she goes soft, Nancy's is higher. That's such a great song.
@lovesheart it was actually Nancy that sang Nada One with Ann singing backup, at least on the studio version. I don't believe there was ever a music video for that song.
No. 1 Rock singer. I like to see her joining Ronnie James dio and make some songs, but i think it can't be done, and their voices are different, but it's a good idea. Rock on.
Excellent! I saw this tour at The Cotton Bowl (Dallas). Still one of my faves, but I wish the source tape had been de-interlaced. Nonetheless, we're very lucky to have this footage. I have Kiss in Largo (79) and it looks about the same.
Cool, and I saw them the following night @the Orpheum in Van,stellar night, plus I touched Nances hand during the show and also met Ben Mink outside before they went on,magic night!!! Can you tell I love Heart, lookin forward to the next show.
@lovesheart Hey, I was there too! Second row to the left, right by Nancy. I got an Ann Wilson guitar pick that she used. Awesome night. Maybe I saw you...
Annie is amazing!! She has so much passion and power in her voice! She even keeps getting better if that seems possible! Thanks for sharing this video!
Heart's ultimate epic song! Thanks for sharing this - I also love that original band - just some of the best players out of the States in those days!
Think its horrible that Ann WIlson (heart) isnt in the Rock n Roll hall of fame!!! If agreed thumbs up and lets start a petition and get heart in!!!!!!
HEART is by far one of the TOP 5 Best Rock bnads of all times!!! Up until Bebe Le Strange, they were one of my favorites; their chemistry is awesome & Derosier is a monster on drums!!! Thanks for the posts on this concert...this is one band I regret never having seen live!!!!
I think this is one of the best songs Heart ever wrote. The music fits the song perfectly. Starts out slow like the waters calm then builds when the sea becomes turbulent, then calm like the water calms again. Brilliant!
was this woman not a fucking force back then----gives me the chills---at the present i think pink is the absolute best live female singer, but in the day , ann wilson was on a planet of her own ----what i wouldn't give to go back in time and see that concert
Shit! Maybe Zeppelin should've gotten Mike DeRosier to play drums after Bonham died. I know that's sacrilige, but damn! DeRosier had Bonham's moves down to a T.
cash2112----been drumming for a long time---grew up playing led zep----always loved heart also---both songs have similar rhythms--that would more explain the similarity in beats----a lot of songs have identical beats---nobody is ripping anything----you play what fits
@alsticks1 Same here started with, Zep in the late 70's
with my blue sparkle (garage sale) Gretsch kit, once I got goin ,M Derosier just kinda fell into place, god those day's were so much fun, b4 I realized the business of drums , the competitiveness, and my true talent level ; )
tjfreak...you sometimes just have to be happy with the talent you have...every now and then i watch videos of 10, 11, 12 year old kids doing shit that makes me wanna jump off a roof-------at 12 they are doing things i will never be able to do..but at least i had enough innate talent to play in bands since 13
The original line-up was soooooo strong and powerful! Amazing! Too bad the Wilson sisters are not amenable to resurrecting the original group. Still amazing!
Small world mikedtw . I was at the D& B show in Detroit's Cobo Areana and still have my ticket stub on 2/27/1979 for $10.00. I seem to remember there was a lot of snow that day! This has since become my favorite Heart song.
Heaven was written by Ann, Nancy and Sue Ennis. It was intended for a new Heart album, but when Nancy met Craig Bartok, they hit it off and pretty much scrapped what they had done up until then. This included Heaven, Break the Rock and one or two others they did on that tour. They started form scratch writing the songs that eventually became Jupiters' Darling.
My band played this song back in the eighties. This is a very moving and classical song- different from the cookie- cutter top 40 songs. I enjoyed playing this song on drums- thanks for the memories Melanie and Craig you did a great job!!!!-- Leasa
I saw the D&B tour in Detroit. This song blew everybody away... at the start, people were milling around, chatting, laughing, the usual. But when Ann began singing the second part of this song, every one stopped and all attention was on stage, on Ann singing. Even the security guards were frozen in position, eyes on stage. What a performance. Thanks so much for posting this!
I saw them in concert on july 7th, and it was AMAZING! Not even all the drunk old ladies in front of us with lighters and bees in their hands could ruin it when they played this song,.
The most amazing thing is they play it sweeter now! It's like Ann's voice has gotten so much more powerful over time?! And it was incredible to begin with!
This used to be one of my fav songs growing up. It has helped me deal with issues in my lifetime growing up. I still remember this to this day. Heart is still number one in their classics.
No one has this power, control, and range her voice has. No one. Not Mariah, Celene, or any body else even comes close. Easily the greatest rock voice ever, man or woman. wow.
Yes, one of the all time classic hard rock masterpieces. Ann Wilson is a living legend. In 1978 I saw Heart in Las Vegas on their Dog & Butterfly tour with this band(the original lineup). It was one of the most incredible shows ever. The sound, lights & special effects where amazing. That was the best version of Heart I I've seen in concert. Kick ass classic rock!!!!
It's their "Stairway To Heaven".
Just amazing.

The best female singer ever. Nough said.
hbueker 2 years ago
was this woman not a fucking force back then----gives me the chills---at the present i think pink is the absolute best live female singer, but in the day , ann wilson was on a planet of her own ----what i wouldn't give to go back in time and see that concert
alsticks1 2 years ago 15
@alsticks1 Pink, she's great and certainly knows a song is about conveying emotion;
However their are few singers who have the vocal range of Ann Wilson.

@alsticks1 ann still sounds greta live, saw her this summer !

Shit! Maybe Zeppelin should've gotten Mike DeRosier to play drums after Bonham died. I know that's sacrilige, but damn! DeRosier had Bonham's moves down to a T.

The drum beat for "Barracuda" was ripped from Led Zep's "Achilles Last Stand".
Cash2112 2 years ago
cash2112----been drumming for a long time---grew up playing led zep----always loved heart also---both songs have similar rhythms--that would more explain the similarity in beats----a lot of songs have identical beats---nobody is ripping anything----you play what fits
alsticks1 2 years ago
@alsticks1 Same here started with, Zep in the late 70's
with my blue sparkle (garage sale) Gretsch kit, once I got goin ,M Derosier just kinda fell into place, god those day's were so much fun, b4 I realized the business of drums , the competitiveness, and my true talent level ; )
tjfreak 2 years ago
tjfreak...you sometimes just have to be happy with the talent you have...every now and then i watch videos of 10, 11, 12 year old kids doing shit that makes me wanna jump off a roof-------at 12 they are doing things i will never be able to do..but at least i had enough innate talent to play in bands since 13
alsticks1 1 year ago
True that, but "Barracuda" was still an awesome song! Ann Wilson should've had a duet with Plant back in the day.

This has since become my favorite Heart song.

do you by chance know what ever happened to that song Heaven? I have it on Seattle dvd but it never ended up on a CD? Its really amazing.
mzzh 2 years ago
No,I only have it on Seattle as well,I don't even know what albuim its from,or if it is theirs?
lovesheart 2 years ago
