  • It's their "Stairway To Heaven".

    Just amazing.

  • HEART ..music and poetry that inspired me in my youth :o) ~ melinda

  • Damn, I loved this song. It's an epic! And a great conclusion to the Dog & Butterfly album. And the live version was even more enjoyable on the Greatest Hits Live LP. Miss that album.

  • Wow ! I remember this tour I will never forget them singing this song it was incredible . Has to be one of the best shows live . Marc Almond is another that sounds great in person just like Ann Wilson and Heart sometimes they sound better than the recordings they made .

  • everybody always says Nancy was the hot one,but you give me 70s Ann any day!! Ahhh Mike Dirhosia(spelled wrong) the true bastard son of John Bonham....

  • @jackhillty1 She was great this summer @Deer Creek...u2 Nancy \m/

  • one of their best songs

  • I used to love to listen to this song, it was just magical.

  • Best Heart song ever!

  • their opus

  • @ripley450 For sure!

  • Nancy said waiting for inspiration to move them, like the wind moves a sailboat, gave them the idea for this song. Maybe that's why it's so "moving". I'd like to tell her how much it moves me.

  • WOW!! This one is amazeing! Sounds almost exactly like the studio version which is my favorite. The clip of mike at the end is awesome! I saw this concert back in 78 or 79 at Rupp Arena in Lex,Ky.They opened with Cook with Fire.I was a 12 yr old girl in awe!! My 2nd live show after KISS.I'm still in awe of Heart! Anne has the greatest Rock voice EVER!!

  • @SmokinMo11 Nice,so your really really old..like me! : )

  • @SmokinMo11 ...Todays female singer's, I'm sorry, "diva's" could not hold a

imatation bee's was candle to the Wilson sisters!!! HEART ROCKS 4-EVER!!

  • @SmokinMo11 HELL YEAH!!! THE SIREN!!

  • @SmokinMo11 YEAH!!! THE SIREN!!

  • My favorite Heart song! Annie is an angel. So is my sister Annie!!!

  • This song gives me chills every time I listen to it. Very magical, and Ann's vocals are killer in it.

  • I was at this show. It was killer!

  • This song is about some guy releasing the kundalini energy! Must've been a great lover!

  • omg, i love

  • I have listened to ALL the videos of this song live, and even all the recordings I know of, and this video is the best version (audio-wise) of them all, hands down--nothing can top it! No wonder it has gone from 50k to 60 k views, just since I have been watching it!

I especially like Ann walking backward on those heels about 3:45--what an awesome image!!

  • @louanneship ; D

  • @louanneship

yeah.. the original version (which this '78 video seems to be) is the best. Hands down.

  • My all time favorite song!! Very powerful.

  • My fav Heart song!

  • MY FAVORITE......LOVE YA HEART

  • @fit1lisa I will always love this one too.

  • I remember being captivated by this song 28 years ago - i still am.

  • Next to "Barracuda" ("Immigrant Song") this is DeRosier's most Bonham-like drum performance and he is flat out kickin' it! Probably my favorite Heart song! Ann's voice was (and still is) so powerful it's like a jet lifting off when it hits the rockin' part of the song. As a bonus, these lyrics are some of Heart's most mysterious and poetic. Epic is the term I think for this one ;-)

  • This music kept that crappy a-- disco music off the airways after only a few years, thank God for that, I was at this concert and still remember the aroma of pot in the air.

  • One of the best songs in rock and roll history!

  • I really think that the original Heart band was the best.

  • I have been listening and grooving on Heart since 1976. I ALWAYS loved this song. Recently, the Heart website had a blog about writing this song. It was fascinating, about asking Ann to sing part of it up an octave to add excitement to the song, and, yes, it certainly did!

Thanks to Lovesheart for sharing this whole live concert; what a gem!

  • yeah, my all time favorite of Heart. If only bands rocked like this today...................

  • Roger's bad ass Strat with the LEDs

  • Great Tune

  • The vibrato on the diminished or augmented or whatever chord is awesome! It's very hard to do with 13 gauge strings like she has; her hands must be so strong! What an awesome song from the best ladies in rock.

  • @ledzeprebecca it's not very difficult - she's not baring the full chord and you'll notice the vibrato comes from wiggling the neck more than anything else...try applying vibrato to a half barred F, and shake the neck to add emphasis - that's what she's doing...

  • First woman ........Better yet, First Person Ive ever seen to bend a power chord doing that vibrato thing she does. Killer song too.

  • Wow...These chicks can rock! I saw them 2 years ago, and they completely ripped my soul apart! Ann is from a different planet I think, she's just way too intense and talented! :)

  • Great song.

  • Definitly one of my all time FAVE "Heart" songs!!!

  • I must have seen each of these videos a hundred times. i swear, i can tell u play by play what is going to happen and what the lyrics are.

    obsessed? u bet!

  • IMO,This is one of their best songs. And Ann is just flawless as usual. There isnt a rock female singer who even comes close.

  • I was a young teenager when in the 70's I purchased the album "The dog and the butterfly". It still plays on the turntable once in a while and will admit, it aged very well. That is obviously due to the quality of the songs. The band had a good creative vibe then. Too bad they ended up prostituting themselves later with terribly popish material. They did end up making a lot of money during that mid 80's streak but I wonder if they felt like they had sold their soul to the devil (lol).

  • @grinderman77 Oh for sure. Ann and Nancy complain about it in interviews whenever asked, but it was either do it that way or have no record deal. "Heart" was a massive success with sold out shows, and that sure beats strumming a guitar for quarters at a local bus stop.

  • They still play it today, although I think it's time for a reunion ladies!

  • This is a mystical song and is my favorite especially since I've experienced something similar in my life! I've been made a crazy dreamer as well...<3

  • @ArtsAlign Love the song. Chills me as I have experienced this in life and on the water as well, In a small sailboat, you are in no hurry to repeat that experience, just glad to have lived through it.. in life, you just hope to live through it.--DF

  • @71dogface Yes indeed..indeed.

  • This song is mystical. Ann calls it "Another true tale." Little did I know it would become a true tale for me, too! It means so much more now than ever. Any other crazy dreamers out there?

  • This is not an easy song....you need some time to hear it 2/3 times or more to appreciate....but I think that it's one of their best songs!

  • @MrTorpedoFist I agree and I know Ann really digs it as one their Masterpieces!

  • @MrTorpedoFist best song ever written - bar none - I spent my teenage years falling asleep to this as the "butterfly" side of Dog and Butterfly played out on my old record player...I still have the album and this song still blows my mind...one of the most intelligent guitar pieces ever composed too...just perfect in every way....and of course Ann Wilson - jesus what a woman/what a voice!!

  • @mlusby Cool,I had to rediscover DnB as an adult, and of course just love it.

  • the singing is good

  • This is the Heart song that gets to me.

  • i love the way she carries her voice and kind of let's it float away on the last mistral, it sound's incredible on the studio version

  • can u dig the Zeppelin influence...excellent tune !

  • THIS SONG IZZ OOOH LA LA, for me!!!! LIVED IT! LOVED IT MORE!!!!

  • @magpief Last I heard, her range was 3 octaves.

  • There's something about a live version in the same year the song comes out. This is fantastic. She had a great 'moment' right at the end of the song. Thanks for posting :)

  • Just as I remember it. This is the original "Heart ROCK". YEAH CAKES!!! ....so enjoy it (and revel in your classic memories of that classic time we all know and love) back when everything was gooood. To Ann & Nancy I say THANKYOU for rocking my world.

....Now TURN IT UP & ROCK IT!!!!

  • I can never get enough of this song. I saw Heart twice in concert, awsome entertainers!

  • Such an epic sounding song, way underrated!

  • Roger Fisher is still REALLY good on guitars , both electric & acustic. Where's the vid where he's had enough & breaks his guitar on stage? I think he's grown up a lot.

  • Classic. My favorite Heart song ever. I saw them on this very tour in 1978.

I agree that no one else has ever written anything like this. I remember an interview with Steve Fossen at the time, predicting this is the song they'd be remembered for one day, because of the innovation.

  • love love love that strut she does at 3:45

  • No one has ever written anything like this. It is magic, poetry! Ann sings it like a priestess casting a powerful spell, and this goes for Nancy's playing as well. "And blow me back to that place, magic space all through me"

  • @MeredithWaters Huh Huh!! ;^)

  • @MeredithWaters I do wish I could find a live vid of Nancy's Nada One.

  • @kurtcarmen Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Ann sings that one on the studio version,I have never seen a vid for it?

  • @lovesheart You're right, I've never found any clip of Nada One live either, but it's definitely Ann who sings it. She's got the lower register when she goes soft, Nancy's is higher. That's such a great song.

  • @lovesheart it was actually Nancy that sang Nada One with Ann singing backup, at least on the studio version. I don't believe there was ever a music video for that song.

  • @MeredithWaters They were like the female Led Zeppelin in a way

  • @EddieAlda Thats why they were called lil Zep in Vancouver!

  • @EddieAlda Zep a HUGE influence on them

  • @MeredithWaters agrred--well said!

  • One of their best and most underrated songs.

  • @WoodRatGirl I agree, and one of my all time favs as well.

  • Heart will be in maryland aug, 1 at pier six pavilion, in baltimore, I'm in.

  • And I sigh your name, across the empty waters; you made a crazy dreamer out of me - Mistral Wind! Yeah! Thanks for bringing back memories....

  • Makes my sails fill for sure.

    Thanks this is great

  • one of the best songs the all the times, simple the best ist all.

  • No. 1 Rock singer. I like to see her joining Ronnie James dio and make some songs, but i think it can't be done, and their voices are different, but it's a good idea. Rock on.

  • @bobbigboss111 Thats an unusual thought,imagine those 2 together,it would be powerful!

  • Excellent! I saw this tour at The Cotton Bowl (Dallas). Still one of my faves, but I wish the source tape had been de-interlaced. Nonetheless, we're very lucky to have this footage. I have Kiss in Largo (79) and it looks about the same.

  • Laura where did you go? Send me a message! Please....

    -Nathan

  • I just saw Heart do this live in Victoria, BC on March 8th.

She rocked the song so hard that the whole arena went crazy. And she is 60 years old now. I would say it was even more rocking than this perfomance.

  • Cool, and I saw them the following night @the Orpheum in Van,stellar night, plus I touched Nances hand during the show and also met Ben Mink outside before they went on,magic night!!! Can you tell I love Heart, lookin forward to the next show.

  • @lovesheart Hey, I was there too! Second row to the left, right by Nancy. I got an Ann Wilson guitar pick that she used. Awesome night. Maybe I saw you...

  • whatever her octine range she packs power into it, I doubt that singers with greater octive range can generate the heat she can.

  • Hearing live music gets to me. All the energy and sweat. I am with the bass and drums. Keeping the bottom for the front line.

  • it's a shame that song has to ever end------said it before.........anne wilson was the 8th wonder of the world back then

  • Annie is amazing!! She has so much passion and power in her voice! She even keeps getting better if that seems possible! Thanks for sharing this video!

  • Like Fine Wine! : D

  • never seen this, thanks. this has always been my favorite heart song.

  • Heart's ultimate epic song! Thanks for sharing this - I also love that original band - just some of the best players out of the States in those days!

  • FKN Awesome!!!!!

  • This song gives me goose bumps every single time I hear it!

  • Me too!

  • This might be Babies fav right now!!! ; D

  • Think its horrible that Ann WIlson (heart) isnt in the Rock n Roll hall of fame!!! If agreed thumbs up and lets start a petition and get heart in!!!!!!

    LETS DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!

  • HEART is by far one of the TOP 5 Best Rock bnads of all times!!! Up until Bebe Le Strange, they were one of my favorites; their chemistry is awesome & Derosier is a monster on drums!!! Thanks for the posts on this concert...this is one band I regret never having seen live!!!!

  • I think this is one of the best songs Heart ever wrote. The music fits the song perfectly. Starts out slow like the waters calm then builds when the sea becomes turbulent, then calm like the water calms again. Brilliant!

  • No doubt,I agree!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! Ann Wilson RULES! PERIOD.

  • Hear Hear!!!

  • I remember seeing them live back then, white shag carpet covering the stage, two beautiful women rolling around on it. A magical night indeed.

  • lovesheart----can you upload the song heaven?---i've never heard it

  • Sure,if my machine will co-operate today, ive been having some software issues as of late.

  • thanks, either way---very much appreciated

  • just had an EARGASM!

  • HaHa,me Too!!!

  • The best female singer ever. Nough said.

  • was this woman not a fucking force back then----gives me the chills---at the present i think pink is the absolute best live female singer, but in the day , ann wilson was on a planet of her own ----what i wouldn't give to go back in time and see that concert

  • @alsticks1 Pink, she's great and certainly knows a song is about conveying emotion;

However their are few singers who have the vocal range of Ann Wilson.

  • @alsticks1 ann still sounds greta live, saw her this summer !

  • wonder who the guy was, who swept her ship off course like some hot ,insistent wind ...

  • @SupernalOne sue ennis ann and nancy's close friend helped write this, its not about a guy

  • my fav heart song!!!

  • Heart Rules!!!!!

  • Kick it out better than any man...any dog...any butterfly...Fuckin' ANN WILSON is the paradigm.

  • you nailed it

  • Shit! Maybe Zeppelin should've gotten Mike DeRosier to play drums after Bonham died. I know that's sacrilige, but damn! DeRosier had Bonham's moves down to a T.

  • The drum beat for "Barracuda" was ripped from Led Zep's "Achilles Last Stand".

  • cash2112----been drumming for a long time---grew up playing led zep----always loved heart also---both songs have similar rhythms--that would more explain the similarity in beats----a lot of songs have identical beats---nobody is ripping anything----you play what fits

  • @alsticks1 Same here started with, Zep in the late 70's

with my blue sparkle (garage sale) Gretsch kit, once I got goin ,M Derosier just kinda fell into place, god those day's were so much fun, b4 I realized the business of drums , the competitiveness, and my true talent level ; )

  • tjfreak...you sometimes just have to be happy with the talent you have...every now and then i watch videos of 10, 11, 12 year old kids doing shit that makes me wanna jump off a roof-------at 12 they are doing things i will never be able to do..but at least i had enough innate talent to play in bands since 13

  • True that, but "Barracuda" was still an awesome song! Ann Wilson should've had a duet with Plant back in the day.

  • The original line-up was soooooo strong and powerful! Amazing! Too bad the Wilson sisters are not amenable to resurrecting the original group. Still amazing!

  • I caught this show and then again at the Baltimore Civic Center. Both shows were great

  • The person at the gate took ours, all I remember was the $9.50 ticket had glitter.

  • Small world mikedtw . I was at the D& B show in Detroit's Cobo Areana and still have my ticket stub on 2/27/1979 for $10.00. I seem to remember there was a lot of snow that day! This has since become my favorite Heart song.

  • $10? Cool!

  • great song great band great clip...ultimate voice...thankyou

  • I love this vid and also love the song Heaven...Do u know if it is on youtube???

  • Not positive,but I don't think so.

  • do you by chance know what ever happened to that song Heaven? I have it on Seattle dvd but it never ended up on a CD? Its really amazing.

  • No,I only have it on Seattle as well,I don't even know what albuim its from,or if it is theirs?

  • Heaven was written by Ann, Nancy and Sue Ennis. It was intended for a new Heart album, but when Nancy met Craig Bartok, they hit it off and pretty much scrapped what they had done up until then. This included Heaven, Break the Rock and one or two others they did on that tour. They started form scratch writing the songs that eventually became Jupiters' Darling.

  • Cool,great info!

  • My band played this song back in the eighties. This is a very moving and classical song- different from the cookie- cutter top 40 songs. I enjoyed playing this song on drums- thanks for the memories Melanie and Craig you did a great job!!!!-- Leasa

  • I saw the D&B tour in Detroit. This song blew everybody away... at the start, people were milling around, chatting, laughing, the usual. But when Ann began singing the second part of this song, every one stopped and all attention was on stage, on Ann singing. Even the security guards were frozen in position, eyes on stage. What a performance. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Absolute Magic, she held me spell bound last visit here!

  • one of their bestt tunes!!wish the radio djs would get a clue and play some of this classic shit instead of cookie monster bs of today!

  • This is one of Heart's most powerful live performances!

  • I think some of the most memorable concerts have been in Largo.

1978 was filled with 7 concerts that I attended and this was the 3rd Heart show I attended in 1978

  • major thanks for this deadly tune lovesheart............thank you

  • I saw them in concert on july 7th, and it was AMAZING! Not even all the drunk old ladies in front of us with lighters and bees in their hands could ruin it when they played this song,.

I love Heart SO MUCH!!!! This is a great song!

  • Sing it girl!!! I used to listen to this all the time in my high school / early college years.

  • Great performance of this amazing song! Thanks so much for posting this.

  • The most amazing thing is they play it sweeter now! It's like Ann's voice has gotten so much more powerful over time?! And it was incredible to begin with!

  • i agree...saw her two nites ago in LA and she sounded better than ever. it's like a gift from god. her voice. no other singer compares...

  • Damn youtube only lets me click the thumbs up button once...

  • I know and it won/t let us click our own vids! : (

  • Ann is Robert Plant's twin sister from another mother!

  • This is when Heart were at their peak incredible

  • I agree!

  • wow i like dat song... i want to watch their previous performance in the 70s 80s 90s

  • This used to be one of my fav songs growing up. It has helped me deal with issues in my lifetime growing up. I still remember this to this day. Heart is still number one in their classics.

    S.O.R

  • melodia

  • boogiemaam, I couldn't AGREE WITH U MORE!!!

  • No one has this power, control, and range her voice has. No one. Not Mariah, Celene, or any body else even comes close. Easily the greatest rock voice ever, man or woman. wow.

  • Marilyn Mccoo is pretty great too.

  • This is my all time FAVE Heart song... it is so incredible! Thanx for sharing lovesheart. :=} I love heart too!

  • Yes, one of the all time classic hard rock masterpieces. Ann Wilson is a living legend. In 1978 I saw Heart in Las Vegas on their Dog & Butterfly tour with this band(the original lineup). It was one of the most incredible shows ever. The sound, lights & special effects where amazing. That was the best version of Heart I I've seen in concert. Kick ass classic rock!!!!
