@13rare Hydraulics are basically meant for shitty or broken drums. Spaun drums are great, so if you still want a dampened sound, try a EC2 over a clear G1. I think you'll enjoy that sound. If it's still open, just use some moongel or tape. Remember, you can always take away resonance, but you can't add any.
from me helping him tune them at a clinic, he likes his hi toms dry and tuned a half octave from each other, while his floor tom he keeps tuned low to deep staccato sound, almost like a second bass drum
@BateristadeTucson17 i have these heads, used to use remo never ever would i go back, these are so much better and cheaper too, i thought this vid actualy didnt fully reflect how awesome they realy are, it did sound good but in real life they are even better, try them and you will see
@compoundguy well actually i started off with Evans ( G1's on toms / snare and Eq3 on Bass ) but now ive switched to Remo cuz i prefer it , but i did try them again after swithing with the Evan Ec2's and i did like em but ive tried the Pinstripes and i like them
@BateristadeTucson17 i have them on another kit (the pinstripes) to me they sound fatter and less open, because of this they are briliant for some forms of music i just dig the evans gear, plus they are way way way cheaper than the pinstripes, which is hady when you have 5 toms and two snares (oh and of corse i dont use the ec2s on the snares XD), also dude if there was one drum head to rule them all for the bass drum EMAD!! not emad2, normal emad my god i thought i had a epithany when i used it
@compoundguy hmmm i havent tried the first emad , ive used the 2nd one ... but right now i have the Remo Powersonic Bass Head and it sounds great mic'd and unmic'd :D though i have to admit the EC2's are grood drum heads , yeaa i go coated on snares ( Ambassadors / Emperors ) but i recently bought a OCDP Snare so im using the stock heads for now
Like Tommy said, the EMAD damps perfectly but I don't get 'beautiful power and thumb' out of my 18"x22" kick. Oh and with a KickPort, the EMAD keeps bouncing (it feels horrable).
@SimonVicFirth take out all of the muffling rings. Throw some felt strips in there and you should be ok. O yea tune them good of course. hope that helps
@SimonVicFirth O yea sorry i meant emad2. But yea dude if you leave in the thinnest ring and put felt strips on front and back head it sounds way to good i think you'll like what you hear.
Yeah! Traditional Grip! We aren't going to go down the snake pit of matched vs traditional are we? It's pointless. Google Tommy's Great Hands for a lifetime trailer to hear the final nail in the coffin on that ridiculous debate.
@drummer4life54 I think it will sound as good as any other head. just tune it good and it will sound good. I have a maple snare drum on my videos and I use a remo CS witch is the same as the PCRD head. Check it out :)
@WhenxChristxReturnsx they can be.... look at Bonham. But nowadays. usually not. All clear bottoms on toms. Although.. hahaha. Vinnie Colaiuta sometimes will use coated bottom heads..
Those heads sound so Dave grohl alike

Thoughts on putting G2 coated on batter and G1 coated batters as resonant? Can't figure out what to get for my spaun birch kit
I have hydraulics right now but wanna try something new and something not so damped but still a little damped

Don't forget what also affects the sound:
the size and the material of the room, and the quality of microphones

julianisdope 11 months ago
@julianisdope I'll just buy an EMAD2 soon, double-ply. And maybe stick on a Kevlar patch. Or a plastic beater.
There are many possibilities :P

julianisdope 11 months ago
@julianisdope I'll be ok with just the EMAD2. I already use the thin ring, on my single-ply version. And no more damping is needed.
I might use an EMAD2 for my next video. Gotta order one, and maybe a new DW 5000 pedal too.

@TheSaxplaya1 Not saying it would be a bad Idea but surely Tommy himself tuned the kit in this video?
Shadowtosh1227 10 months ago
Do they sound just as good in a slightly lower tuning? Say as in Rock 'n Roll music? Or do you advise clear heads for that?

Would the Evans coated Power Center Reverse Dot sound good on a Pearl Masters Custom MCX maple snare drum.

@drumology1 Probably a G1

@drumology1 dw resonants. Clear G1 or Remo Ambassador will do the same pretty much.
